  1. In your game directory there should be a folder called "Data" and in the mod you're unpacking (if it was packed by a modder who gives a crap) there should also be a folder called "Data". Just make sure that everything from the mod data folder gets copied to your game data folder, then of course make sure you activate the plugin with either the game launcher or a mod manager and you should be good to go.
  2. Not all mods include meshes; some only include a plugin. OS is Operating System.
  3. Did you install the game to a location other than its default location? I don't know which OS you're using, but regardless you should be able to right-click on the game icon on your desktop and find a way to jump straight to the icon's target, thus locating your game directory. If it's a Steam version, it will be different: the location will be somewhere in a SteamApps folder.
  4. Thank you for more articulately stating what I've been trying to say all along.
  5. Please refer to the post directly before your post.
  6. Yeah, I don't have a problem with Steam being one of a number of different places you could choose to get your game from... All I've been trying to say all along is that the problem is when Steam is the ONLY option, in other words there are NO OPTIONS.
  7. You can't activate Fallout New Vegas without Steam. How is this optional? Sure, this doesn't apply to every game on the market at the moment, but I believe this is the beginning of an era where someday it will apply to every game on the market. You either get the bar code tattooed onto your forehead or you're allowed to have nothing... Everything else except New Vegas then :P (and valve games) I don't believe that every game will use only Steam or Steam like programs, but only time will tell. Thank you; that's really all I wanted to hear; that at least one other person on the planet recognizes that this could possibly be the prelude to darker times for gamers. I know... I've watched too many sci-fi movies. But when people start chanting: "Steam is good; Steam loves you; join Steam..." it just really creeps me out...

  9. I usually don't protect steam, but that's not true. Not at all. You get a bit of advertisement but they don't force you to buy it, also McDonald's doesn't have summer sale where everything is 77% off. Let's get over this topic already, Steam is a good program for those who like it and those who hate it will always hate it. End of discussion. Sure, and when EVERY game the industry produces requires Steam, Ubisoft or something else like them, threads like this will be pointless because any right you had to make choices for yourself will have been taken away.
  10. "Hi. Welcome to McDonald's. Today you'll be having a Big Mac, fries and a diet Coke." "But that's not what I want. I want a Fillet-O-Fish and--" "Hi. Welcome to McDonald's. Today you'll be having a Big Mac, fries and a diet Coke." "But I just told you that's not what I want. I want a--" "Hi. Welcome to McDonald's. Today you'll be having a Big Mac, fries and a diet Coke." "Well, okay I guess. This is the only place in town open at this hour. I guess I'll have whatever you just said..."
  11. Have you tried Improved Bartering. It's worked pretty well for me, even affecting merchants added by other mods.
  12. What country are you in, and what poor people have you been talking to? Here in the United States of America, most of the poor people I know would much rater have something to eat and a warm, dry place to sleep than the ability to "Tweet". I decided to take your suggestion and investigate this further. According to sources like THIS and THIS, the percentage of the South African population that uses the internet has been between 10-15% for about a decade now. You can't really call that "everyone".
  13. And right there your argument just lost any credibility it might have had. Congrats. You just pulled the oldest online debate trick in the book. If somebody counters your half-truths with valid points, and you no longer have a foot to stand on, tell him he's working for the company he's defending. Typical response from someone who has nothing left to say. Have a nice day further, though. :) Edit: And now I'm out of this thread, forealz this time. That's very witty. Explain to me again why a corporation controlling my leisure pass-times is a good thing?
  14. Halororor, if Valve isn't already paying you, they should be.
  15. The only point I was trying to make is this: There are people who indeed have paying jobs and are not hobos or bums who still do not earn enough money that the cost of buying a game a single time is often more manageable than having to pay an additional monthly utility bill to maintain the ability to continue playing the game that they've already purchased. But that's not the only thing that makes Steam unfair, though some people just don't seem to be able to see it. Perhaps if I explain it a bit differently? If you will indulge me, allow me to role-play for a moment: I rule video games. From this point forward you will get your video games from me. You will not be allowed to play these games until you have been given my approval. When updates and additional content for these games are created, they will only be available from me and you may download them to your computer at a time and speed of my choosing. If you do not want these updates and additional content they will be downloaded for you regardless of what you want. If at any time records of you having paid for your games are lost due to mechanical error it will be necessary for you to purchase them again. If at any time I feel you have participated improperly in my social forums or violated any of my arbitrary rules, you will be banned from my network and thus will be unable to play your games despite the fact that you have paid for them. If you do not agree with these rules it is irrelevant because I rule video games. Honestly, how can any of you think this is cool? Now, I realize that Steam isn't yet quite the evil overlord I've depicted in my role-playing. But give it time; one day it and this Cloud will run everything; video games are just the beginning.
  16. Agreed. The entire time I was playing Fallout New Vegas I felt I was playing a Fallout 3 expansion DLC.
  17. Obviously I don't mean hobos and bums. :/ And I'm from South Africa. Might wanna look that up on a map sometime. I'd prefer not to turn this into a flame war. First of all, I know where your country is located. Secondly, I am neither a bum nor a hobo. I work for a living. I pay my bills by the sweat of my brow. It might be difficult for you to understand as you're sitting in your college class, but not everyone in the world has had such privileged opportunities. I hope you do well with your education and enter a lucrative career so that you might continue to be blissfully ignorant of such things.

  19. I think it's interesting how people are asking someone to explain what it is about Steam that we don't like, yet once we've explained it they skip past it and ask for it to be explained again. Both gaming and modding should be enjoyable activities which we can partake in at our leisure at times of our own choosing. But as our control over these activities steadily diminishes of course our dislike of the processes taking away our options is going to steadily grow. It's not a difficult concept to comprehend.
  20. A VIDEO GAME TO MAKE MONEY no way!? Whatever. My point is that I should only have to pay for that game once, as opposed to having to pay an extra utility bill each month so that I might be permitted to play games that I've already paid for.
  21. The bottom line for me is that I don't like to be extorted by racketeers. It's all set up to make money for somebody. For several years I did not have an internet connection in my home because I did not need it. I could buy a game at Wal-Mart or Target, take it home and play it. Now if I buy a new game -- a single-player game, mind you, not an MMO-whatever -- I still need to pay another monthly bill so that when I get that new game I can activate it or whatever. Surely someone will jump up and say this is all the industry's response to pirating, but if you take a look at sites where torrents are uploaded you'll see that nothing has changed. The truth of the matter is that internet providers are gaining customers because of things like Steam.
