IMO, and it's just an opinion, I think the majority of mod creators would not be upset to have their mods in a "Lets Play", in fact most would probably be flattered. However, there definitely are a few for whom this is a sticky issue, for various reasons. If I were you I would avoid showing mods from any author whom you already had reason to believe they would be against it - not a good idea to stick your hand in a hornet's nest, and ask permission from the rest. Asking permission is easy. A PM will usually do it, and if the author has PM's turned off (as some do) then leave a message on the comment thread of the mod. If after a reasonable period of time (one week IMO) you get no response, then look at the permissions statement on the mods in question for guidance. Although it is unlikely a permission statement will even mention YouTube, it will give you a feel for the attitude of the author. If an author has released multiple mods then look at the permissions on more than just the one you want to use. The more information you have, the better informed your decision will be. Act in good faith and use your good judgement. My philosophy is that if I act in good faith then I am less likely to be in the wrong, and if I am wrong, at least I will be in a defensible position.

For Oblivion you don't assign a normal in Nifskope. For the Game engine to recognize the normal it needs to be in the same folder as the diffuse texture, and have the same name as the diffuse texture followed by _n like this: TextureName.dds TextureName_n.dds

Um... no. Don't think so. However, there does appear to be a correlation between openly displaying racism or racist tendencies and intelligence, at least in the more affluent areas of the western world. I have only personal observation to back that up, but I'll stand by it. What I think you are really seeing is that the smarter a person is the better they will be at masking their true natures. That is where political correctness is really coming from. It's purpose is not to eliminate racism or make the world a better place for minorities or the poor or the disenfranchised, it's purpose is to protect us from ourselves. Because showing our character flaws to the world is not in our best interests. The more intelligent a person is the less obvious is their hypocrisy.

This thread needs to be locked. It's sole purpose from the start was to bully Tarshana by turning people here against her and drive her out of the Nexus. This plan was clearly stated by some of those posting in MRX's comment thread. Cyber bullying is a criminal offense and should not be tolerated here on the Nexus.

Intriguing pick of an extremely political staff colonel to support the concept that all the prior failed agreements is some form of success. His thesis contends that since war has not broken out yet that makes strategic patience a success. His secondary contention is that the west failed to give NK the tech for safer reactors thereby reneging on their end of the deal, however he glossed over the fact that NK failed to meet the preconditions of that agreement. Strategic Patience has simply kicked the can down the road so that no current administration would have to make the hard choices. Problem is now we are running out of road. To be honest I don't actually know that much about Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, other than what I can Google. He did seem to have a distinguished military career - volunteered to serve in Vietnam, that seems unusual now but at the time probably wasn't. It's more likely that men who believed in things like honor and duty didn't get the same kind of press as the draft dodgers. I do gather that he is well known in American political circles. I brought up his interview primarily because it offers a dissenting opinion, and I think dissenting opinions have value when trying to make an informed decision. If I were Commander in Chief I might want to listen to someone like Wilkerson, not necessarily because he's right, but because he's telling me something I might not be hearing from other advisors. If nothing else, he's not giving me the usual spiel about crazy Kim. He is actually saying that the Kim regime is sane and acting rationally. Politically, that is not a safe opinion for him to put forward publicly. To me that adds some weight to what he is saying, and it is important to know your enemy. I don't have an opinion on the success or failure of past agreements, I'm simply not knowledgeable enough to make any judgements on them. My focus is on his assertion that Kim's decision to push forward with the nuclear program is rational. That fits in with my own thinking. Let me put it this way: If we were gaming this and I am role playing the leader of North Korea, I am definitely going to build as many nukes as I can. My objective is my survival, and the survival of my line, the "Kim Dynasty". I have a responsibility to my ancestors to protect this thing that they built. Let us not forget that I didn't start the nuclear program, my grandfather did, my father continued it, and now I am the guardian. I may be deluding myself with that, but none the less that is what I am thinking if I am Kim Jong-un I'm looking out at the world around me and seeing threats that I cannot defend against. My military is falling behind technologically and my one ally is now so economically integrated with my enemy that I can no longer be sure they will come to my aide. I will very soon be defenseless. The Nuke has deterrent value. it is not that I want to Nuke LA, which would bring about my immediate annihilation, and thus the end of my line, and in fact be a betrayal of my ancestors. Instead it is that I want to be able to threaten to Nuke LA, and by doing so keep my enemy at a distance. It may prove to be a failed strategy, but that's the strategy I would go with if I were in that position. Another interesting point that Wilkerson makes: now he is clearly not a fan of Trump, but he does hold out (slight) hope that Trump is positioning himself for negotiations. If you wanted to negotiate a final peace treaty with North Korea to end this thing for once and for all, then the first thing you need to do is prepare for war by bringing all necessary assets into the theater. Trump sees himself as a deal maker, he is on record prior to his election saying that he would meet with anyone. We know he is not adverse to talking, so just maybe he is going to put his deal making to the test. One way or another I think we will soon see where this is going. Assuming that it is going anywhere. Maybe Trump has no plan and the can will continue rolling down the road for many years to come.

I came across an interesting article about the North Korean situation that some of you might like to read, or watch for that matter - I'm old school so I read the transcript. It's an interview with Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell. It offers a different perspective than what you are likely to see in mainstream media.

Just to play Devil's advocate (at the risk of being laughed out of here) there is an option that has never been tried. Enter into negotiations with no preconditions for a comprehensive peace treaty. End sanctions, trade openly with them. Allow for free movement of people, not necessarily our people having access to their country, but their people having access to our countries, with the emphasis being on students from elite North Korean families coming to the west for education. Young North Korean kids having an opportunity to see the world beyond the walls, and then returning to North Korea could eventually be a game changer. Eventually change would come from within. Kim Jong-nam, Kim Jong-un's half brother was first in line to be Leader until he was caught trying to take his son to Disneyland in Japan. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if the Japanese had kept quiet about it and Kim Jong-nam had become the leader. His son seems to have turned out OK.

I think you're right, it is all for North Korea, even the Tomahawks in Syria while meeting with the Chinese President. I also think it's a bluff, or at least I would like to believe it's a bluff. The possibility of sending in seal team 6 to take out Kim has also been floated in the media. To me that seems ridiculous. I think it unlikely you would have reliable Intel for a successful mission, and safely extracting those men would be somewhere between extremely difficult to impossible. Prior to Trump being elected he said he wanted to be unpredictable in these situations, and that's the script he is following. Where it will lead is anyone's guess.

My apologies for any misunderstanding, I shouldn't have been so lazy, I should have put a little more effort into making myself understood. "sometimes the way to end it is to win it" wasn't aimed specifically at Syria, though I might apply it to the Russian involvement there as they seem to be in the best position to bring this thing to a close if they were willing to make a full commitment. Of course that would mean a lot of dead Russian boys, and those kids don't deserve to die either. That comment was really aimed at the philosophies of another poster, and saying that you can't always turn the other cheek and walk away, sometimes you have to fight. War is never desirable, and no leader should ever make the decision to go to war without a deep understanding of the grave consequences to your own people and the people you would war against. But if you must go to war, then the objective should be to win swiftly if you can, because dragging it out will only cause more misery.

Really? Seriously? Since I'm not sure if you get where I'm coming from I'll hold your hand through this. I was indulging in a bit of flippant irreverence with a touch of sarcasm and cynicism, in an attempt to shine a little light for anyone who wasn't aware, of a potential ulterior motive for your government's deep heartfelt concern for the plight of the Syrian people. No one does crocodile tears like an American President, Democrat or Republican - I figure it's probably a prerequisite for the job. Anyway don't mind me, I'm harmless. Carry on saving the world.

@ gandalftw I'm not taking sides here but aren't Trump supporters supposed to be insensitive? Sometimes the way to end it is to win it. Isn't America already a warmongering immoral country? Just sayin, not that I'm criticising or anything. Whatever floats your boat. @ HeyYou Finally we are in full agreement, except that... you know... the objective has never been to build a nation. The objective is to degrade it to the point where it is non-functional. If you overthrow Assad you get to build a pipeline. See, there is always a silver lining.

95 years past the death of the copyright holder sounds very reasonable to me. I vote in favor of adopting this policy.

My own post telling you you were barking up the wrong tree because the court case had nothing to do with fair use and instead was about violating terms of use was also deleted. So IMO the moderating was even-handed.

My understanding of it is that MXR did call her bluff... and then he got scared and backed down when he found out she wasn't bluffing. Her edge in this is that she had real lawyers on her side, not internet thread lawyers.
-
He may not have access to the mod author forum, and that's the problem here. Some of us are privy to information that is not widely available to others who would partake in this conversation. So we keep seeing this erroneous assumption that it was all about "fair use".

I respect what you have posted, but I also disagree with some of it. While it is true that the mod author in question has the power to do some of the things you suggest, it is also true that MxR has the power to do some things that could bring this controversy to an end. MxR could reach out to the mod authors and just say "Truce" and "I get it that some authors don't want video reviews. I don't agree with it and I think I am within my rights to do what I do, but I will respect your wishes in this regard." And he could provide a reliable way for mod authors to get in touch with him so that misunderstandings could be avoided. And he could stop stirring the pot with this old issue, pretending to be currently under threat of legal action when he is not. And he could stop with the dog whistle and milking this controversy for more views and revenue.

Let's say that Nexus actually did something like that. How long do you think it would take before a large number of mod authors would hide their mods and only share links with other mod authors. Do you really believe it is in your interests as a mod user to be cut off from downloading mods. And if you don't think that would happen, then you need to think again. And yet that is what you are trying to do. This appears to be part of a campaign to rally support here against the lady and drive her off of Nexus.

Why are mod authors allowed to ban people from seeing their mod?
RGMage2 replied to Mightandmarine's topic in Site Support
If I recall correctly the rational behind giving mod authors this power was that it was better to allow an author to block one person than have them take down their mods and block everyone, which was happening frequently. Is it being abused? Probably. We human beings are petty creatures with questionable judgement so of course mistakes will happen. Is it a FU? Of course it's a FU, it's a big FU. But that's what people like to do when they get pissed off. We've all done it in one way or another and it gives us a small amount of satisfaction (see petty creatures with questionable judgement). Should moderators get involved? In a perfect world yes, in the world we live in NO, more trouble than it's worth. Sometimes we have to moderate ourselves. If you as a mod user find yourself being blocked by multiple authors then maybe it's time to take a look at yourself and figure out what it is you are doing that's pissing people off. Here's a couple of clues You didn't plan on using it and weren't all that interested in it but you still felt compelled to leave a negative comment. That's the type of thing that drives mod authors up the wall. It's like a drive-by shooting - totally unnecessary and does nothing but harm. Rude or civil, doesn't make much difference. Most mod authors don't like reviews and especially don't want them in their comment pages. The idea being that a mod isn't a product, it's a gift. A gift that is given freely. You don't review a gift. In the future if we are ever in a situation where modders are charging money for their work then it will all change and we will just have to suck it up. But that is not where we are right now. Right now mods are a freely given gift, and if the recipient of the gift doesn't want it or doesn't like it then the polite thing to do is to keep any negative feelings to yourself. I'm not unsympathetic to your situation. Going by the information in this thread the action taken against you may have been unjust. It wasn't the type of comment I would block for, but then I'm not the mods author so who knows? I do think I would have been a little bit irritated. Best advice to you is simply try to be smarter with your posting. -

100+ Fun Things to do in Fallout 4
RGMage2 replied to BethesdaGamingStudios's topic in Other Systems
I opened this thread expecting to see a list... it never occurred to me I'd have to make my own. Number one fun thing to do - Play The Game. I can't say that strongly enough; I love this game. I bought an XB1 just to play this game and it's been worth every penny. I got it a couple of months ago and I picked up 4 other games at the same time - Witcher Wild Hunt, Shadow Of Mordor, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, and F1-2016, And so far I haven't even opened the other games, I'm too busy playing FO4. I've played about 180 hours on 3 different characters and I've barely touched the main quest. Planning my settlements - not even building them, just planning them. Stringing up electrical lines and bringing light and TV to the world. Too bad Diamond City radio never plays Glen Campbell's Wichita lineman. Hmm... maybe I can do something about that. Opening up a Billiard Hall in Sanctuary. It would have been nice if we could craft some signs for it in the workshop, but I guess you had to leave some things for us modders to do. Build my own Super Duper and have the Trading Emporium as part of it. (note to self -needs a Super Duper sign) Collect magazines to display in my Super Duper. (the magazine idea was brilliant and nicely implemented. Too bad we can't collect paintings and carpet while scrounging about, and instead of creating them in the workshop we would store them in the workshop.) :teehee: Customizing my sniper rifle and killing Super Mutants - that never gets old. Giving Dog Meat a teddy bear to play with and then watching the animation. Using Dog Meat like a hunting dog out in front of me picking up on threats. Watching and listening to Dog Meat as he clears his sinuses on one of the dusty farms (don't remember which one). Scrounging around for scrap like I would if it were real. Pursuing different Perk lines for radically different character builds. Taking a low level character into the south east section of the map and feeling the fear and enjoying the dark moodiness that was so perfectly done. I could go on and on and probably give you a hundred, but I'd rather spend my time playing the game. edit - you should really have this thread moved to a more visible part of the forums, I don't think too many people come in here.
