Just a bump here.... Confirmed. Debates forum works fine. General Mod Author forum resets every time I navigate away from that section. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?
-
Nope. Haven't read, don't want to. Probably wouldn't be able too.... 2500 pages of legalese? I would be snoring after the first paragraph. For my part, there is only one aspect of it that concerns me. The Individual Mandate. I am totally against the government FORCING folks to purchase a commercial product. Even though it won't apply to me.

By and large, schooling does more good than harm. Teaches in an organized manner (theoretically at least.). And a standardized curriculum. Not every parent has the time/desire/knowledge to give their children a well rounded education. The state has the ability, but, I will grant that their execution of said ability leaves a bit to be desired. The folks that 'make it big' without an education, are the exception, not the rule. You just hear a lot more about the millionaire with the third grade education, than you do the dozens of others (hundreds? Millions?) with a college degree or three.

There currently is no draft in the US, yes, when you turn 18, you have to REGISTER.... but, not like you are going to get a draft notice in the mail. Ever. Even if the draft did come back, the folks that make the decisions to fight the wars children would still be pretty much exempt, for whatever reason the legislature could come up with, and get passed...... it's the poor/middle class that fight wars. Not the rich. (unless they volunteer....) Currently, I don't know what the military is whining about. If they are so desperate for warm bodies, why are they so picky in whom they accept? If you don't have a high school diploma, or a GED, and TWO YEARS of college... they don't want you. What the hell? How smart do you have to be to know which end of the rifle gets pointed down range?? Not to mention, what does a funny piece of paper mean, when the military has their own battery of tests, to determine which jobs are open for you? Seems to me, if you score well on their tests, nothing else should matter. (aside from a criminal record.)

I am kinda curious how the civil rights act forces me to do anything at all? And threatens me with violence? Really? Could you quote that particular part please? I seem to have missed it.

That's because it makes money for the military/industrial complex. I would also point out, that the two wars were started by a republican. Was King George a Progressive?

Going to war with Iran doesn't require Romney, it's just as likely to happen under Obama (just like in 2008 ~ Obama never was going to close Guantanamo nor end the Iraq war, but since he's a "progressive", people on the left almost automatically put their trust in him, just like with neocons and the right). Whoever's president, the economy cannot support all of those soldiers becoming unemployed at once. Not to mention, the U.S. is in a manner of speaking, investing in the Iranian nuclear regime (albeit maybe indirectly) through an Iranian front in Russia. The soldiers won't become unemployed, they will be stationed elsewhere. We keep a standing army, unfortunately, right now, it is standing in several foreign countries..... that would like nothing better than to kill americans. I am REAL curious how the invasion of Iraq made any difference in terrorism, aside from giving them this nice new training ground where they can hone their skills with live fire at american soldiers.... There are more terrorists in Iraq NOW, than there were when Saddam was in power. That one, from a 'war on terror' standpoint, backfired spectacularly. Not to mention it was a war based on lies. And Afghanistan? We went in there ostensibly to get one man. Took us better than ten years to do it. The mere fact of americans being there has been a major recruiting tool for terrorists, and is yet another excellent training ground with americans to shoot at, blow up, etc. We are spending trillions supporting wars that never should have happened in the first place. Even should there be a flood of unemployed soldiers hitting the job market, the cost there pales in comparison to the millions per day we spend trying to kill folks. I do agree though, that it doesn't really matter who gets elected in November. We are on the path to war with Iran. If it isn't us that starts the fire, it will be one of our allies, and we will get dragged into it by default. Just what we need. You think oil prices were bad before? Just wait until the middle east is burning. That should have a wonderful affect on our economy.....

Those odds only appeal to the theorem of all people having equal chances of being under any of those terms, which is certainly not the Same as different chances of happening taken into account ergo IRL. a mix of intuitive and inductive reasoning instead of a solid deductive one is what it is if you ask me, and certainly not quite accurate, better for fooling purposes. So worry! a lot! vote for Mit Romney and bombard the middle east to keep world peace! How is bombing the middle east going to bring peace? Iran has flatly stated they have ballistic missiles that could cause a ruckus for most of our bases in the area, not to mention our allies. I fail to see how starting yet another war is going to bring about peace. ESPECIALLY when a war in that area would cause energy prices to SPIKE in a major way.

Yeah, sure. Job security is always a good thing, like airplane security and having a cam on every corner of a street. Britain should know more than anyone though, right? Thanks but no thanks. Pretty much this, really. The idea of "the weak" is a tool used to invoke emotion and as such, should be ignored. Yes, we all know government needs violence to run. Too bad though, the people you want to tax, are also the people wanting the same higher taxes while dodging them altogether. No one is forcing Warren Buffet or Bill Gates into not doing anything, yet they complain about not being forced enough. ;/ While neocons have done their fair share of damage, "progressives" have done even more while under the total mantra of being "progressive" instead. Hmm. Got some examples for that last statement?

Or terrorists smuggling in some flavor of dirty bomb. The area is much too large to be completely secure.

United States, Michigan, a podunk little town just north of the Ohio border... Lived here most of my life, minus a year or so in various other locations. (texas, ohio....)

What are you talking about? There are others who believe evolution is false, and they do not subscribe to the flat earth theory? Acebopata, I think you may have missed HeyYou's point just a tad. I do not believe he was equating those who do not believe in evolution with those who believe in a flat earth. Perhaps I am wrong, but I believe he was attempting to suggest that challenging beliefs "WHATEVER THEY MIGHT BE" ought to be encouraged, not only by our school systems, but by parents, individual teachers, governments, even religious organizations. We should be encouraging the thought process in our young people. This is how they grow into mature "THINKING" adults. Absolutely Correct Granny. :)
-
What's your texture size set to?
-
So, you can't teach evolution to anyone, is it might challenge their beliefs? Oh gee, should we not teach geography either, so we don't offend the flat-earthers? BRILLIANT!!!!
-
Well... it appears to be rather random for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't..... I can't find any particular rhyme or reason as to why it doesn't want to on occasion.... and it seems to be only a couple of the sub-forums that have issues. The debates forum seems to work just fine, the Mod Author General Discussion forum though..... it REALLY hit and miss. Mostly miss......

Fair enough. :D I will poke about some more.

Obama appointed his cronies in the Supreme court such as Sonia Sotomayor. A woman who is a Member of LA RAZA. They hate the United States and wanna destroy them. What do you think they would say about such laws? Also, public healthcare is not mentioned in Section 8 of the Constitution and so its ILLEGAL. But they don't care, because THEY ARE CRIMINALS. And TRAITORS. Americans buy around 5 million guns each month. When comes the secound american revolution? You wanna continuing this?? A Member of an Organisation which wanna destroy the USA rules about that an unamerican socialist law is conform with the constituiton. What comes next? "Big Insurance companies" wrote the public healthcare law you poor fool. How hard is it to understand that you shouldn't trust extremely biased news sites? Also how many times do I need to post this. "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States" Past programs such as social security have been considered constitutional due to that. This healthcare bill isn't very good in my opinion, but it isn't the end of the world. Just a small thing compared to the rest of the crap going on. It's the precedent that this ruling sets that disturbs me. Congress now has the power to tax us if we don't purchase a commercial product that they think we should have.

This problem is still pretty pervasive. Even on the same session, If I leave the General Mod Authors forum, on my return, no matter if it is a few seconds, or a few hours, all posts are marked as unread. Any likelihood we can get the servers to track this again??
-
Well, that isn't what I expected....... So, it seems the government can now legally force folks to buy a commercial product. Nice..... I wonder what's next.... Everyone has to buy a car, so the auto industry well do better? Everyone has to buy a house, so the housing market will recover?? Everyone has to buy oranges, so they will lead a healthier lifestyle? I disagree with some of the articles contentions as well. It doesn't mean 30 million people will now get insurance, or that anyone will be able to get better insurance...... When is the last time anyone saw their health insurance rates go down? Easier yet, when was the first time? My guess is, it has never happened. Certainly not for me. There is also the argument of which is cheaper, paying for the insurance, if you make too much to get a government program, or, the fine that the IRS will levy if you don't have insurance....... No, the fight is far from over. This is only round one.

Indeed, thank you. Was wondering about that myself.

And yet nothing has been done. Many of the people interviewed there are part of groups that could do something to fix the system, they know the system is broken, but they don't do anything. It's like a sick form of irony. They are people who are in a position to do more than comment and inform about these problems, but they expect us to be the ones to solve them, or for things to just work themselves out on their own. Either you're an activist, or you're a journalist, you cannot play both roles. Mainly because the folks that are in a position to implement the necessary changes, profit the most from things staying exactly as they are. So, we get lip service to the 'issues', but, never any action toward fixing it. Why would anyone purposely wreck their own gravy train? Because we face assured destruction otherwise. When 75% of a country's infrastructure is already crumbling, you don't need terrorists, you don't need natural disasters, society can be brought to a grinding halt just because one place had too much strain. That is what happened with the massive blackouts along the East coast a few years back. We will likely face similar issues this year as about the only improvements made to the system were bandages over the most damaged sections. Most of the bridges in the country are deteriorating. Most of the water mains have cracks and aged sections that threaten to deprive whole cities of clean drinking water, and nothing is done until things have already broken. Because we have a population who is frightened, doubtful of the future, and greatly distrustful of the government which exists to serve them. If left on the current path, there will be riots, there will be death and destruction, there will be people too fed up with the lies and who have nothing left to lose. Parts of Europe have already seen these erupt, but there has been almost no coverage of these being broadcast in the West. The tendency for politicians to simply stand idle while lining their pockets will only serve to add passion and validation to the rioters. Something has to give, for all our sakes. But that is in some nebulous future. Our government has more than adequately demonstrated that they don't particularly care about the future. Just like corporate america, its what makes the most money RIGHT NOW. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! The situation you describe is EXACTLY what I expect to see in our future, and probably not all that far away either. It doesn't really matter who wins in November, the course won't significantly change. Its just a matter of who will get us to the collapse faster.

HeyYou replied to hyralux's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Your 4870 has trouble? My 4890 ran it really well.... Running a 6850 now, it is pretty smooth as well. What's the rest of your system look like? How much ya willing to spend, and what country are you in? -
What I find truly sad is, I get more accurate news from John Stewart (a comedy show...) than I do from a 'real' news channel..... He is aware that mainstream media is feeding us their favorite line, and makes a good show out of it. It IS entertaining, in a sad kind of way..... but, it is also more informative than the likes of Fox, CNN, MSNBC, et. al. George Carlin needs to be a news anchor..... unfortunately, he is dead..... I suppose though, still and all, he couldn't be any WORSE than what we have today. :D

In todays "media" (I hesitate to call it "news") ratings are what its all about, and their own particular political spin. When a news network has "fair and balanced" as part of its slogan, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be neither. The media moguls have just as much invested in washington, as the politicians do, and having the clout to thump someone soundly, repeatedly, ad nauseum.... in the 'media', can make or break political careers. The media knows that, and uses it. They each have their own particular "take" on things, depending on which side of the political coin they are on. I can remember when news anchors actually reported the news, as it happened, factually. And without whatever political spin was popular that day. One of the reasons I don't watch any of the networks any more.
