Info overload, some guidance requested
HeyYou replied to Seeker17281's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Did you just get your machine running, and then try and run oblivion? The installation process creates some files/folder that oblivion is going to expect, and will probably be annoyed if it doesn't find them. Good news is, you don't "have" to uninstall anything yet at this point. Just run the installer, re-install the game to an existing Oblivion directory, make sure the game is updated to 1.2.0416, and then try the game again. See what happens. Bain, and NMM are both good tools, but, I don't think NMM OR Wrye support the OMOD install scripts for some of the more complicated mods, that have many different options..... (FCOM, DarnUI, and the like) Not to mention the Archive Invalidation tools that I don't think either of the other two have...... If you are comfy with OBMM, use it. You can play with the other two tools at your leisure. :D -

Read this. -
A nuclear event is pretty much guaranteed sometime in the not so distant future. What with various unstable/belligerent regimes developing nukes (supposedly), eventually, some flavor of weapon is going to find its way into the hands of someone willing it use it. What happens from there is anyones guess.

One could argue that the planet would be better off without us..... :D

His point is, that what happened in Aurora was unconstitutional, and he cited case law to back up his claims. On that point, I agree with him. As for free speech...... Folks have a right to free speech, so long as it doesn't endanger anyone directly. (yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater for instance.) There is absolutely nothing in there about veracity of what is being said, or any clauses about being offensive. For a fine example, do a search on "stolen valor". Seems that falls under the category of "free speech"..... There is one that is both inaccurate, and, to a pretty good cross-section of the population, highly offensive. Yet, it is "protected free speech". Go figure.

problem with reinstalling
HeyYou replied to vermillionplauge's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Don't install to program files. Create a new folder C:\Games\Oblivion, and install the game there. -
If there was only one perp, seems kinda silly to keep searching after you find him. :D My next question would be.... was anyone ELSE arrested due to this stop? Find drugs, or something else illegal in their car?? Would that be considered a legitimate search?? (I would think: "No".. but, that's just me.)
-
Being stuck in traffic I may have the opportunity to turn around, and find an alternate route. I am also sitting comfortably in my car, and NOT on the side of the road in handcuffs. Nor have I had a gun pointed at me. By what right did the police detain these folks? Because one of them MIGHT have been a bank robber. (which, I will grant you, one of them actually was.....) I would be mighty curious to know just how it was they identified him/her. So, just for instance..... a bank is held up, and the criminal gets away. It has only been a few minutes, do the cops then have the right to detain EVERYONE within the possible travel distance the criminal may have covered? (logistics of such an event aside....)
-
Ok, so the cops arbitrarily detaining 40+ folks 'isn't a big deal'?? Really, what if it was 100 folks? 1000?? How many people do they have to detain before it goes from being "ok" to "violating rights"??? Next question is: Do the numbers even matter? If it is unconstitutional to detain 100 people, why is it constitutional to detain 40? Where is the line drawn? Is this the kind of precedent we want set??

Watch the video.... there are more guns showing than a redneck wedding. :D

So point guns and scare people first, in the attempt to provoke a response and illicit suspicion second... say what now? A police officer pulling their gun when pulling over a speeder isn't uncommon if the officer has reason to suspect a threat. You may only see the flashlight, but there's a good chance they're holding a gun in their other hand as they tell you to keep your hands where they can see them, pull you out of the car, and pat you down for weapons or drugs as their partner searches the vehicle. If you protest or take any action against them they will usually cuff you, put you in the back of their car, and have your vehicle towed to where it can be thoroughly searched. This is standard procedure. I'm guessing you don't live near an urban center or get out much. Justified in that case is a matter of opinion and which side you are on. But nobody seems to complain about those sorts of situations no matter how frequent they might be. It is also not uncommon for police to setup road blocks and screen each and every driver for Blood Alcohol level at certain times of the year. Nobody seems to raise a heavy stink about those situations despite the fact that all of the officers are armed with a service pistol and there are usually a few patrol cars sitting idle to process any drunk drivers. Really? Standard procedure? If they have reason to believe you were involved in a crime, and may be armed, perhaps. But, when I get pulled over for speeding, yes, the officer cautiously approaches the vehicle, and generally has their hand on their weapon, but, they have NEVER asked me to get out of my car, nor do they have a right to search. They can ASK me if they can search my car, but, I am perfectly within my rights to refuse.

So, being hauled out of your car at gun point, hand cuffed, sat on the side of the road for no reason aside from being in the wrong place, at the right time, isn't a violation of their rights?

WHY folks behave that way isn't really all that important. The fact is, they SHOULDN'T behave that way. I see a fair few mods with anime girls in skimpy outfits, with huge weapons. Do I download them? Nope. Do I comment on them? Maybe, but, my comment will be something to the effect of "good work", if it is particularly well done. 99% of the time, I just breeze right on past. I download mods that suit the way I want to play. Other folks do the same. I think this is an occasion where the golden rule really should apply. If you don't have anything appropriate to say, don't say anything. Just keep on moving. Seems that some folks think their opinions rate higher than others though, and feel it necessary to tell folks to do things 'their way', anything else is a 'waste of talent'. To those folks, I just wave good bye as they get banned. :)

They will blame it on global warming due to all the fireballs. :D

I fondly remember the days when I DIDN'T need a computer engineering degree to work on my car...... :)

Why should folks get upset that modders "violate" lore, when the company that makes the friggin' game plays fast and loose with lore themselves? Cyrodiil was supposedly a jungle/tropical rain forest. Looked more like Maine, or even possibly Germany to me..... No "tropical" or "rain forest" to it at all...

Seems that of late, Wisconsin has been more republican leaning in any event. I must say that I AM surprised that the unions didn't do more to get their point across. So much for collective bargaining for government workers eh?

I doubt the cancer would have time to get him. The hordes of ravenous Chuck Fans would probably lynch him in short order. :D

I wish the US would take a page of out Canada's book then......

He will kill chuck with second hand smoke........ Don't you watch the TV? :D That must be a OLD pic of Chuck....... he is just a tad older than that one......

no. edit: haha I wasn't going to allow myself to be dragged into this, but since when do schools not teach how to balance a checkbook? They did when I was in school and they still do in my local area. It's regularly a math project. The taught it when I was in school too, but, that has been a couple decades ago....... The class was offered when my teenager was a freshman, (5 years ago.) but, was cut here due to 'budget constraints'.... (and the teacher was let go as well.) Its not taught at all at any school system in the county here so far as I know.

Everything I needed to know about life, I learned in kindergarten? Actually, that's pretty accurate.... These days, school isn't about producing a valuable product, it's about rote memorization, and the ability to pass 'standardized' tests. But even that isn't good enough for some folks. There are groups claiming "bias" in the test questions, be it racial, or gender..... Seems we can't be politically correct enough. We are always discriminating against someone it seems. One thing the schools don't teach, that they really should, is basic life skills. How to handle a household budget, how to balance your checkbook, etc... all of that has fallen by the wayside, buried under the debate of 'evolution or creationism'. Are we having fun yet?

Go back to a previous save. There is no save editor for Skyrim. I don't expect one either. Oblivion came out in 06, and there STILL isn't a save editor for that......

Yeah, it's oblivion..... I think the daedra mess with us on occasion.....
