  1. drwebs banned.

    Reason for the ban

Threatening to upload Paid Mods, and share them with people for free. We do not support piracy on NexusMods.

I have no doubt his reputation will be damaged. I vow to buy copies of his work, upload them, then get refunds. I will pirate and re-upload everything he makes from day one. We must destroy this beast before everything is a micro-transaction and dlc.

  3. RohanSpartan banned.

    Reason for the ban

    Piracy of Skyrim.

Well, I originally bought the 360 version of Skyrim Legendary Edition and really loved it, but the mods the PC version really pushed me over the one line I thought I'd never cross. Pirating games. I torrented Skyrim to see if my laptop could even run it(which it does on medium-high) and to try out modding. I've found a lot of great mods, and some not so family friendly mods *winkwinknudgenudge*, and have had a lot of fun in Modded Skyrim. But this whole SNAFU has pretty much made me second guess getting more mods, and even BUYING Skyrim through Steam. I think I'll just keep the mods I have right now and get the few remaining mods I want to get before they get a price sticker slapped on them. GG, Valve. GG. *flips Valve both middle fingers*

  4. We do not support piracy, nor cracks. If you want help, you will have to buy the game again (losing your disc is no excuse for torrenting. If you lose your disc, you lose your license - that is just how it works, unfortunately).

The game is ~$15 on Steam, so I would suggest buying it there (you'll never lose it again).

  5. An update on the list:
50s Style Fission Battery (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/11591/?) - html file
Wizards Tower Addon (http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/3704/?) - html file
Lune Sweater Outfits (http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45001/?) - works
    Follower_Victoria (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64870/?) - html file
    FollowerExtras (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/1996/?) - html file
    RUGNAROK (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64830/?) - works
Unofficial Skyrim Patch - German - Deutsch (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/46240/?) - redirects
    iActivate (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58510/?) - works
Artifacts of Nocturnal - Bow of Shadows and Gray Cowl (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64822/?) - redirects
    Lunette (http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58709/?) - html file
Elven Fashion armor (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64874/?) - redirects
Digitigrade Argonian Raptor Boots (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64908/?) - works

Again, it all works when downloading from the Kent Premium Server.

  6.

Did you try to open the downloaded archives as well? because there are two issues; either you are redirected to the main page, or the downloaded file is a HTML file disguised as an archive.

Yes, the ones that say "normal" I could open and look at the files. Only Rugnarok, iActivate, and the Lunette update were corrupted. Also for me they were actually .rar or .zip files, not disguised HTMLs. However they were between 100 and 109 KB, not the sizes they were supposed to be.

iActivate was actually larger than it said it was on the download page and the other two were much smaller.

If you replace the .rar, .zip, or .7z with .html, and open it, you will be directed to the main NexusMods page.

RandomAcronyms wrote: I'm not worried because of one thing: being in-it-for-the-money will not work on the Workshop.

What I mean is this: lets say that 1 mod gets sold out of every 10000 mods that gets made.
(a guess based on how it works for Valve games ATM.)
That is such a small sample size of all the mods that exist that the ones made by greedy people are, at best, equally likely to be the lucky few that get to sell their mod as all the others.

Now think about the up-font costs; you have to completely finish the mod before you can even put it on the Workshop with zero return for a minimum wait time of ~4 mounts with no maximum wait time.

THEN realize that the game devs want money too, so they are far more likely to sell a mod made by people they trust to be able to use the money they make to fund more mods that the game devs can sell! How will get this trust without a singly freely available mod, how would the mod dev even get upvotes without making free mods first?

All this work when the greedy mod dev could just make a Kickstarter? how is this even remotely likely to became a thing more then a few thousand people can even hope to try? let alone stop other people from making mods freely available.

PS How could Game devs DRM mods in a way that lets mod makes still play-test them before submission? I see no way to do that with Steamworks and I don't think Valve would let that happen any time soon.

Could we please stop tossing around the word "greedy" just because people want a little bit of compensation for their work?

This site profits through ads and donations.
    Mods can profit through donations.
None of them require payment to use - all completely free.

All in all, it is very similar situation.

Edit: To clarify, it is a similar situation in how money is earned, not what the money goes to and such.
