  1. Pardon if someone has already suggested this but why don't you use the 'wacky wasteland' saucer either to get to groom lake or get to the moon. Perhaps Chris Haversam could get it going...
  2. Many thanks, had the suspicion that's what it was. I'm not up to that point in my mod yet but I think I understand what's involved... A tad more complex for me as I'm going to attempt to remake some of the base NVWasteland. The plus's though, is by cunning use of geography the bits I'm going to try to do cannot be seen from anywhere within the existing game. Worth a try eh!
  3. Some promising mods I've tried are spoiled by this effect; http://oi60.tinypic.com/2rnhklg.jpg Can anyone explain what is happening here? Distant large static objects - and it seems only as if it's landscape elements swim into view as the camera either pans (as above) or zooms. Now I've a half built and un-LODed mod on my game now and it doesn't do this and I'm really really keen to make sure it doesn't happen on other peoples machines (whenever the hell I finish it!) So I'd like to know what is the cause... Is it my settings or installation, graphics card glitch, what?.. [Edit] BTW less than 30 basic mods in, no effects ones, no ENBs running.
  4. LOL. You made me spill my coffee! CORGI Gas Fitter's perk! [Edit] BTW the 'garderobe' in the pic won't ever require a plumber as long as gravity keeps working. Leastways until you all succumb to cholera...
  5. Are you thinking in terms of simply inserting a seat-model into the game or something like MGE's Lighting The Wasteland, teams of itinerant plumbers working their way across the wasteland restoring sanitation  Which is one of those fundamental things 'a real world' would need - unless you happen to be geographically fortunate in your choice of home... http://oi60.tinypic.com/126fh36.jpg
  6. Journey is most definitely art, also what is that top building? The British Secret Intelligence Service HQ in London (where James Bond works). Anyone getting George Orwell's Ministry of Truth? Terry Gilliam's Brazil?? Could you ask for a more intimidating, ominous F***-You structure for spook central... [Edit] Having said that if they made it look like some dull anonymous office building (not in the centre of the city) critics like me would only claim they were sulking in the shadows
  7. Well I'm certainly going to be trying Spec Ops: The Line from your recommendation, but what a broad and very liberal view of what constitutes an art I seem to have then. Truly one never knows... An Art (for me) is the product of an act of creativity and/or imagination to invoke a response in others. And I make no distinction between arts and crafts in this. This is why I think something as banal as decorating cakes can be an artistic pursuit. Why something very technical like Architecture has artistic creativity at it's core. The last being a good example because by art, imagination and creativity you can end up with threatening and ugly buildings that are an affront to the human spirit such as; http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ap-hMHXgd9Y/TP15-3-hSYI/AAAAAAAABq8/AhTlMe7lC7E/s640/IMG_6965.JPG as opposed to Anton Gaudi's expression of the devotion and religious sentiment of his people and culture - which even if your not a Catholic, subscribe to religion or even believe in a deity, is an incredible building to experience; http://www.europeish.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2010/12/Barcelona-Sagrada-Familia.jpg And they are art because those buildings were created and intended to have an effect of people, and that's why the broader definition I propose includes games . At the most basic level they tell a story, and I can rest my whole case on that one point. Because storytelling is quite possibly the oldest, most intrinsically human, artistic endeavour. At some distant point in history someone began to use paintings on the wall of the cave to 'illustrate' their narrative and around forty thousand years later we are doing the exactly same thing with game-engines* instead of pigments on cave walls and the why simply doesn't come into it. So leaving aside the design elements of the game, ignoring the aspects of sculpting models and painting textures, overlooking the theatre involved in fabricating the illusion or the drama used to persuade the player to invest emotionally... Just the act of storytelling, for me, is sufficient to make video games an artform. The caveat is games are rarely great art and often not even particularly good and I'm not (or wasn't) aware of any that aspire to fine-art. But even the most sceptical have to admit the artform is still in it's infancy, 40 years out of 40,000 it's practically fetal! But look how far cinema came in 100 years and, I think, hold tight because I recon we're in for a hell of a ride! But hey, that's only my opinion there, to ignore, dismiss or mock... and not intended to offend anyone's sensibilities. * this from some other wooly liberal and the pinkos at the UK's Guardian newspaper
  8. Just your opinions (no one needs to get het up about it...) I was surprised to come across someone who didn't consider video games an artform and wonder how common this is. Here's Google's definition; Art1 ɑːt/noun: art; plural noun: arts; plural noun: the arts the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. "the art of the Renaissance" synonyms: fine art, artwork, creative activity "he studied art" works produced by human creative skill and imagination. "his collection of modern art" synonyms: fine art, artwork, creative activity "he studied art" creative activity resulting in the production of paintings, drawings, or sculpture. "she's good at art" the various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance. "the visual arts" subjects of study primarily concerned with human creativity and social life, such as languages, literature, and history (as contrasted with scientific or technical subjects). "the belief that the arts and sciences were incompatible" a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice. "the art of conversation" synonyms: skill, craft, technique; More Seems pretty straight forward to me, games and FNV are probably not great art, possibly not even good art  but it was a creative endeavour by the devs and continues to be, by modders so it qualifies. Anyone else have ideas on this?
  9. The static form Sarsaparilla bottle won't do you any good in the game, it's a static so it can't be grabbed or manipulated by the player - only in the GECK. But if the firing range is apparently too boring or possibly too difficult (If I understood what was involved I'd be on the way to doing it myself) then how about Return-To-The-Lucky38 changed to return to player-home as a mod resource? Has this been done, is it simple, hard, imposable or just dangerously bug-inducing? It would be a handy little utility, no...
  10. Distantly related question, is there anything to be done with the [A] key lighting? As in, some way to set it to a neutral white instead of the horrid colour-bending yellow light. It's pure murder trying to match texture colours with the damned thing on and the Render Window prefs-'time-of-day' doesn't appear to have any affect at all...
  11. The problem is that we can't voice new lines for the vanilla characters (though I think Veronica and Arcade also do comment on a few vanilla locations) Is there nothing in 'cut content' that could be used? Also I had a stab at re-editing Raul's lines with Audacity and Adobe Premier. Which works, you can cut and splice thing together with varying degrees of success depending on what you want to achieve. Unfortunately for me making Raul into the surly barman Danny Trejo played in a movie wasn't achievable from Raul's character... Damn.
  12. There is one type of Sarsaparilla bottle - don't remember which- that's actually bulletproof! I think it's a static as opposed to a Moveable Static so if you plonk a row of them down in the GECK you can shoot them till hell freezes over. You get the 'plink' noise and a bullet hole decal when you hit one but they ain't moving, which saves quite a lot of messing about with the grab-key. Though lacking the satisfaction of AYgric's range where the bottles go sailing off when you hit them which is fun.. and when you activate a trash can full of bottles nearby - all the bottles were back ready to go again.. Neat!
  13. Sorry to deliver some harsh truths here, but apart from the entertainment of speculation I think this mod is unlikely to be made. To get the Khans into Gomorrah 'plausibly' will probably mean changing the games sub-plots and re-writing entire fractions behaviour, which has been done well how many times? There is a 200 page thread around here somewhere discussing how to do that to make the game continue after the end battle. 200 hundred pages and they still haven't worked out how to go about it! It may be possible to do something simple like put a 'secret' tunnel to the Gomorrah basement, spawn a bunch of generic Khans to invade the casino then just write over the Omertas... Maybe... But no NPCs in the game would acknowledge the event. As far as the story goes it wouldn't have happened unless you could make wide ranging changes to the plot. And there is a separate issue, BadHeartSnake refers to history repeating it's self above. Know what happens to barbarian nomads who win? Who overcome and take control of rich, settled societies, inserting themselves at the top of the heap? They cease to be barbarian nomads, they are usually seduced and corrupted by soft living and the trappings of power. Defeat is harsh but there is a barbarian sentiment - expression that goes 'what doesn't kill you makes you strong' and victory can be even more unpleasant if your culture regards the daily struggle to survive as virtuous. Papa Khan as some fat degenerate pimp... you'd wish that on your friends?...
  14. Wouldn't a firing range be very useful? Look at all the luxurious and elaborate player-homes, so very few of them include a range. Yet we all download any number of guns and some of us try to work out how accurate they are before we are in a firefight. AYgrik made one near the Gunrunners and his excellent Plane-wreck player home has one but it doesn't seem to have been very easy judging by his; "All work in GECK belongs to me (AYgrik), including a script shooting range" Top of which, he hasn't been active for a long time to ask... His range uses custom targets but I don't think that's necessary, all the script-illiterate (like me) need is the function on it's own. Perhaps it's very difficult to write or implement, if so them maybe someone will explain. BTW I tried cloning the 'thing' behind the Prospector Saloon but my ignorance is so great I couldn't even understand the problems that caused, let alone how to go about solving them!
  15. Ha, finally an easy one. The number represents the 'skill level' your character is supposed to have to use the weapon. Nothing stops you using it with lower level but a gun wont be as accurate, a knife wont be as fast etc. etc. Much the same as if you do not have the strength requirement.
  16. And supposing Regis or the courier got the King onside?... No love for the NCR there and a grudge against Mr House to be exploited (did I just say exploited). I don't think the Khans could run the strip, maybe a casino but the whole strip is stretching it. However it's within the realms of possibility that at the head of a coalition that opposes NCR interests they could might be able to destroy it as a going concern and that is leverage. Then there's the Brotherhood who also have issues with the NCR... This isn't a one group takeover this is a mass uprising by all the small groups against the big ones "Deathclaw might get some, but the rest will swarm it, tear it apart, like Denver hounds" This is the mod I'd like to see, the Khans are the best group to coordinate a movement, the most likely group to say screw these big outfits with their 'we know what's good for you' crap. Anarcho-syndicalism for the Mojave and Free Nevada!!! http://levantium.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Glenn-McCoy-cartoon-April-15-2014.jpg
  17. While I mostly agree with what you say I think the Khans could take the Kings. Born and bred badass wasteland raiders versus a street gang? Pff! Even of the gang's home turf.. But if the Khans had any ambition in that direction wouldn't they begin with the Fiends, over whom they have considerable influence. Motor-Runner says they'll get their chems somewhere else, yea good luck with persuading the Followers pal. He might have more chance with the Garrets but not I think on 'easy credit' terms. Then there's a Powder-Gangers allegiance, and a Cons - Fiends - Khans axis? That's the whole middle west of the map, they only need to reach out to the Jacobstown Muties... Fortunately for the NCR the Khans don't seem to harbour those kind of ambitions because if they did, then they'd be in a position to make a move on the strip. So this theoretical mod would have to make someone like Regis into a seriously persuasive leader. Unless the courier - Fade to black for Khan initiation scene - becomes a Khan leader
  18. It's not purely the number of the mods friend, its the size and complexity against your system's specifications. Someone will correct me if I'm mistaken here but I think you could load a hundred gun mods because they are just weapons they are hardly any burden to the game. But you have huge broad game changing mods, lot and lots of them. All of Project Nevada, All of Adam, all of Bounties, all of AWOP all of NevadaSkies and all of WMX... Try turning some of them off guy, you must be dimming the street lights when you power up your machine.
  19. I'll share the 'discovery' I made yesterday so's you can all have a laugh at my expense and as a general warning not to take things for granted. I use quite an old machine with Win XP that is (I thought) showing it's age. Even with 4Gig exe it could lock up and needed the Anti-Stagger to play at all well. Yesterday, after a particularly annoying series of GECK crashes I was poking around the System folder and found a file called ntoskrnl.exe. Which means the machine has been running on one processor for.. better part of a year and I hadn't noticed! Or rather I mis-attributed the all the problems to the age of machine. Lols, well that literally fills in a few gaps.....
  20. I can't give you any details (it's a long long time since I was a Mac user) but you need to be looking in the direction of something called Wineskin I think. All I've got for you, sorry.
  21. Shot the White legs on the other side of the bridge into Zion, then snapped off a shot that killed Follows-Chalk as soon as he popped his head over the rise. Then wandered round Zion with three hostile tribes on my case wondering what the hell I was supposed to be doing here... Tch! The drawback with scoped weapons.
  22. Thank you, Ladez to the rescue.. Again.. As for copying them yes I have but no matter what I do it says it saves the new cell, then when I reopen the GECK or reload the data it has re-named it Usonianhome01int TemplateDUPLICATE00. Which implies that the Geck thinks it has another copy somewhere, no. If that's the case why doen't it say so when I rename U..home TemplateDUP..00 to U..home Template? I've tried messing with the EditorID, the FormID and I can't get 'a' cell back the way it was. But I've been all over the wasteland by now looking into every house that looks as if it might use this an I can't see anything wrong... That'll teach me not to neglect saving a separate copy of the .esp won't it.
  23. Just the model or also explosion, damage stages, etc... With just the model I could simply hide WeapNVMinePowderCharge benith them, no? Which works as it's 'escaped convicts who're the opposition at that point. But if some clever person could rig the whole thing as a new device/weapon/whatever I'd certainly use it. If you were considering making this and wanted to go all out you might want to look at gas-air bomb or thermobaric weapons which (in the real world) produce fireballs very like Fallout's nuclear explosion, sans radiation. -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermobaric_weapon I'll be happy with anything, anyone can do
  24. I am extremely curious what this is for, because I love that bit. I don't suppose you would be ok with a girl doing it lol, cause I so would love having an excuse to say pussy that many times in a Cheech voice  http://oi60.tinypic.com/sowsyc.jpg http://oi62.tinypic.com/9joumt.jpg http://oi59.tinypic.com/igezkk.jpg That help the curiosity?
  25. EditorID: Usonianhome01int Template. - FormID: 02000DBA. - Name: Usonianhome01int Template. The thing is I cloned the cell to begin work on a dungeon and failed to notice the GECKs charming habit, when you rename a copy of snapping the highlight back to the original cell not the new one. Then I went to work, totally trashing the 'Usonianhome' and had done a mountain of work before the DOH! moment when I realized I was in the wrong cell! So I renamed my cell, unloaded my mod from the Geck, copied the original 'Usonianhome' set that up as an .esp on it's own. Reloaded my mods's .esp and the Uhome one copied the resource back into my mod and renamed that the Usonianhome01int Template. Then... loaded the game and ran around the world looking into every home to see what or if I've messed anything up, and I can't find anything amiss. I could go back to an earlier .esp but I'm a bit reluctant to throw away over twelve solid hours of work. It's just that I'm even more reluctant to make broad ranging changes to the base game - as everything I'm trying to do is outside the game. SO can anyone please tell me what the Usonianhome01int Template actually does, where it's used so I can absolutely certain that I have fixed it and not bolloxed something fundamental. And thanks for your patience.
