Just a word of warning.

Once you get your Vortex problem resolved, there is currently no FOSE that works with it. No estimate on when it will be fixed.

My path that works is: I:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\Fallout3.exe

Note no space before the 3.

Fallout3ng.exe is the GERMAN version

Vortex is expecting Fallout3.exe

Assuming this is the Steam Version, FOSE works with F3 GOTY, I have it installed on my system.

Quoted from Fose.silverlock.org:

"2021-10-12 update (if you are seeing CRC = D32E228B errors): Bethesda has released an update labeled 1.7.0.4 on Steam. This does two things: removes GFWL, and updates the compiler to VS2019. I do not have a timeframe for when FOSE can be updated to this new version."

OK, didn't know that.

BTW, Black Text on the Forum set to Dark Mode is unreadable unless highlighted.

Do you definitely have a legit Steam copy?

Vortex looks for both the German and English EXEs as shown here: https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/vortex-games/blob/master/game-fallout3/index.js#L67

If you have neither of these then it won't find the game. Also be aware that when manually specifying the path you need to select the folder that contains the EXEs.

You can also go to Extensions in the left menu and look for "Game: Fallout 3" - make sure it's version 1.0.2

Are you guys having fun ignoring that the game's exe was recompiled with VS2019 (thus, changing addresses), and trying to put the blame on the user?

What next? If we have GOG version, we're pirating?

It's seriously exasperating to see the user being consistently blamed for everything.

I'm not sure where you got that from euph....

The reason I ask if it's a legitimate Steam copy is because Vortex will automatically read your Steam App Manifest and resolve the installation location. If it can't do that then usually it's because the game isn't in the manifests.

I also ask about the 1.0.2 version because that is an update we released to cater for the new build of the game. Unless I'm mistaken the EXE name didn't change, it was just recompiled?

Yes, but the recompile changed it from VS2015 to VS2019. That translates into different libraries and addresses being generated. Sure, you can find a name, but can you find the proper address that needs to be called to "see", inject, and run the game? That's the core of the issue: changes in the libraries and the addresses. This update breaks a bit more than is "immediately visible to the eye", so to say.

As for the Steam version, I have no idea if the name changed, I use GOG. A post above says that the space was removed between "fallout" and "3". Perhaps something else to look into, because if you're looking for "fallout 3" instead of "fallout3", it won't work it seems.

Vortex, with the updated Fallout 3 extension, recognizes. loads, and runs Steam Fallout 3 with no problem. At least, that's true for my computer system. The updated extension obviously takes into account the .exe name change and the recompiling with VS2019, otherwise I couldn't run my game.

If people are having trouble finding Steam Fallout 3 with Vortex, it's not because the updated extension doesn't work.
