Mod Author Support

FWIW, I use Vortex. Some of those mod authors do not trust Vortex to handle the file transfers/hardlink writes effectively, especially on very complex mods. I have had to reinstall several mods that 'lost' files when I got too lazy/greedy and tried to install more than just a couple at a time, or tried to install/uninstall a mod before another mod was completely finished.

From observing other authors and their comments, they just do not like the systems that Vortex has for conflict resolution and load order establishment, and do not want to try to support their mods under Vortex.

I can understand if its a very complex mods, but many "simple" mods, examples mods for the witcher 3, that the authors insisted the user not to use vortex.

I think that's pretty much what it comes down to. They don't use Vortex, they don't understand it and they don't want to support it. Also, a lot of them just like to say "drag it to the bottom of your load order" to solve every problem they hear about.

yeah, its so sad

With my mod the problem is I include a description and most people will miss the important information when they use vortex. So then they might ask a question or have issues with loading the mod. I believe as a mod creator I want to teach people and modders about the value of folder structure and organization. They miss out on learning this skill.

ah yes, I always read the mod description very carefully, and when the mod author said, don't use vortex, even for a relatively simple mods, I keep wondering why, why the author didn't even try to make his mods compatible for vortex?

To be fair, Vortex has had issues with TW3 in the past, particularly with script merger.

But to the overall point, the dislike of Vortex is based on ignorance. When I point out that it has equivalent features to MO2, I usually get ignored. Some react with out right hostility (like Arthmoor calling me a "shill", LOL!)

I think that's really unkind and I'm sorry you've been on the end of that kind of abuse for simply trying to help people.

it is still a personal decision what you use and recommend as a mod author (i assume). there is no reason i know to use a specific mod manager as long as the config can not bring you into trouble like if you use hardlinks and want to shift mod manager relevant parts to another volume. be aware of the restrictions and do not not change any good working setup at all!

any mod author can support and recommend freely what he supports or not depending on his experiences. no comment or post in this thread will change that.

read description before you download a mod and use it as the mod author recommends or just omit the mod.

Recommending your preferred mod manager because you are familiar with it and like it is one thing.

Discouraging people from using a mod manager that you are NOT familiar with and therefore should not have an opinion on is a different thing altogether.

Best advice to everyone regarding Mod Managers is to ignore literally everyone else's opinions and just try them out to see which you prefer.

Except the ones that are badly out of date of course. No one should use those. See comment directly above this one.

this should be the common recommendation. what a mod author recommends and supports for his own mod is his own decision probably based on his own experiences.

it does not matter if a mod author "insists" on anything on his page and how familiar he is with any mod manager. i recommend to just move along and ignore such childish behavior...
