363rdChemicalCompany
SO I have a 1T SSD that been gettig a bit full since I run Fallout4 and its (many) mods and its (many) savegames on it.So when I downlaoded Fallout New Vegas I decided to put it on my G drive which is a 1T SSD also except empty for a few FO4 backup files. When I had DLed both the FO NV game and another copy of Vortex into that drive Vortex complained that some files were on another hardrive and so could nt be used. Sure I thought no problem. So I deleted the New Vortex file and figured I'd go happily back to my previous set up and just cull the herds of savegame files and superfluous stuff in my downloads folder to make a bit more room. Lo and behold my Vortex was gone altogether from my C drive too!The folder that had contained it was empty. So: 1) Can we not run only one copy of vortex on one mahcine at the same time? I was hoping to manage Fallout NV on a G drive with it's own vortex on G drive but leaving my original fallout 4 with its associated Vortex alone as the mods have been carefully curated in order. 2) I appears deleting my new Vortex file deleted both my Vorteces on C and G drives. Can there be only one? 3) (and this is the biggie) after restoring my "new Vortex" from recyble bin it shows up back in G drive, the C drive Vortex was still gone AAAND it seems to work fine. So its running my Fallout 4 game from G drive, via F4SE (located in C drive), with the mods stored in the fallout 4 folder in the C drive.Does this seems odd to anyone else?Based on the error message I received after my original 2nd Vortext install earlier today which alerted about a "2 hardrvives issue" did not think it possible. That was the reason I tore down my G drive vortex to being with to go back to C drie since Vortex told me it was an issue. Any recomended solution?Should I should I simply copy/paste Vortex from G drive into C drive?or should I copypaste my Fallout folder from C into G drive? (but how will vortex find my mods then since it looks for them via location, how will steam find my stuff?) Or should I tear everything down, delete all game files, redownload both Vortex and FO4 into my G drive? If my mods get lost , I suppose i could restore them form my saved list of downloads on nexus. Or leave all alone since it seems to be working now (but I dont know if this may cause performance issues down the road)
showler
You should only have one version of Vortex installed. It will usually go in your "Program Files" folder and the information for it will be in the AppData folder. You can assign your "downloads" folder anywhere you want (usually on a large slow drive). Vortex will create individual sub-folders for each game. You can assign a separate "staging folder" for each game. This should be on the same drive as the game. The staging folder is controlled by which game you are currently managing. There is no real purpose for ever having a second version of Vortex installed. Solution showler Posted September 21, 2023 Solution Share Posted September 21, 2023 Vortex is designed to manage multiple games in multiple drives. It might be a bit confusing that it only shows you one place to input the staging folder path, but a fair bit of the settings is context sensitive to the game you are managing and will only show information for that one game.
