How to stop Fallout 4 from updating (Steam/GOG/Xbox)

@Pickysaurus I'm sorry but unfortunately I still don't properly understand Steam's instructions. In step 6 you say "Copy the ManifestID from SteamDB and replace the one shown in your file." But do you mean the latest depot ID? 377161? So on April 25 the ManifestID of the depot 377161 will change and we will replace it in our acf file? Or will we have to replace the ManifestId of 377161 with the ManifestId of the new update depot that will appear on April 25?

Yes, you don't need to change anything now.

so when I go to steamdb I don't know which manifestid I have to select to copy.
And I'm not clear whether I have to do this procedure now or I have to wait for the game update to be released first.

Thank you to those who can help me understand

Hello!

I followed the instructions for Steam, but now steam is telling me it can't play the game without updating, and it won't update as I've set the file to read only. Is there anything else I need to do?

@PickysaurusIm confused I think I understand I need to change the manifest ID to the new one but do I change all of them and if so what else do I need to do because it doesnt seem to work for me

EDIT: I did the steps again with a reverted manifest and now the game shows as uninstalled is that correct?

I don't mean to be rude, but this part is very confusing for people who don't mess with this stuff often, like me. I looked at the page linked for the depots, but I have no clue what I'm looking for. What am I supposed to do?

For steam users, who have are struggling with manually updating the app manifest the following workaround works too:
1: backup your entire Fallout4 folder from \steamapps\common\Fallout 4
2: let steam do the update
3: set the \steamapps\appmanifest_377160.acf file to read-only
4: delete the whole Fallout 4 folder from \steamapps\common\Fallout 4
5: restore your backup (you did make a backup in step 1 right?)
6: launch vortex, it will tell you that mod deployment is needed, do so, but choose "Use newer files"
7: welcome to the caveman club and have fun playing your old, outdated, un-updated, non-nextGen version of Fallout4

  • Thanks 1
