Which mods or collection would you recommend for a new user?

See-through scopes is a must for me, it removes the black tunnel vision you get when you aim down a scoped weapon. I also use Everyone’s Best Friend for Dogmeat, so I can use him alongside other companions. Extended Dialouge Interface also makes it so you can actually see what your character is saying instead of the short Bethesda prompts. The Unofficial Patch fixes all kinds of bugs.

other than those basic qol’s depends on what your doing. If your playing survival mode Survival Quick Saves is a must. If you’re going to do any settlement building use Place Everywhere (it requires F4SE). I’m  planning my next playthrough around Sim Settlements 2, which adds a ton of new quests and settlement mechanics, so that’s the best quest mod I could recommend but it’s pretty beefy so you’d need to build your load order around its requirements and conflicts.

thats my 2 cents. Check out the most endorsed filter and start reading descriptions to find out what you might like.

I just went with the unofficial patch and then a mod to enable achievements when using mods. I have added a few more since I started, but I wanted to see what the game was like before adding a bunch of mods.

I'm running the NG version from Steam. I did encounter the slow load times, so High FPS Physics fix has been very helpful.

- Atomic World 2.0 ( adds 100 plus locations, freindly, neutral and hostlle. all fit well into the world as if they were from the Devs). gives u a reason to explore the former empty area north of vault 111 too.

- a vegetation mod. Such as  "A forest 0.8" or "Another Pine tree mod"

- Have to leave for work so cannot type more examples, will be back later 🙂

Welcome to Fallout 4. When it comes to modding the game I highly recommend to take your time. Maybe it's a good idea to play the unmodded game a while before you begin to mod. Doing so you can learn what you are missing or what be nice to have or what would be a qol mod for you. There is neither the one mod to make everything better nor the one collection. Every recommendation I could make would be a matter of personal taste and does not mean that you would like it, too. There are some mods I would consider "must haves", but still it's only my taste. So maybe it's a good idea to go through the category section here on nexus and look for things that you want to have in general. Graphics enhancements, weapons, clothing, settlement objects, game play, character creation, etc.

It might also be a good idea to inform yourself about the so called next-gen update and it's consequences.

Subaverage makes sage points.

I do belive there are some mods I wish I would have on the game from the beginning.

They would have made my first experience (which is IMO the most important one) better.

The 2 mods linked are examples of such a class of mods.

Only you know what you really want from a style perspective - and without knowing that it's kinda difficult to make suggestions.

Ex.   Vanilla, Vanilla + or Bouncing Boobs/Stilletto Heels/Whips/Chains/etc.

Ex.   Modern weapons fresh from the factory, retro Fallout style weapons, modern weapons with the Fallout grunge look, etc.

Ex.   A baren desolate landscape, a green landscape, Vanilla, Vanilla + settlement looks, Meet George Jetson clean as a whistle settlement look, etc.

Etc, etc.

For Collections, there's a series of Collections called "modules" that are organized into different categories.  So you have one for sounds, one for visuals, one for weapons, etc.  They are designed to work together or individually, so that might be a good way to test some Collections.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I really appreciate it.

I would also hold back on all those available armor and weapons mods.

Use the vanilla stuff first.

Diamond City is an important part of the early game experience.

I tried different Diamond City mods over thousands of hours of playtime. They all have something great to offer but some are more buggy for casual users than others:

I really like this one for the exterior, its bug-free, plausible/logical and adds much needed content for  a location thats advertised as the largest and most developed settlement in the wasteland:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22798

And this one for the interior, also bug free and plausible:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/19293

And as mentioned before FOR SURE Atomic World 2.0, IMO the game should have come with these contents from the get-go.

There are other mods i could mention, but not all of them are good fits for an early player.
