This news has caused a serious turmoil in the modding community. Everyone just needs to chill down, "this" is hurting the community.

Yes there's somes serious flaw in this concept. We should let know valve what with think about pay-to-play mods but not in a way that drive aways talented modders.

im not saying that was anyones intention!!
but i think the modders that say they keep their mods free of charge openly will see a big increase in donations until the storm is over

and that pretty freaking good that way! you people deserve it

I'm very skeptical that even the biggest of the big modders could "get rich" from this.
Because of the aforementioned drop off from free to pay wall, plus the 75% cut taken.
It would have to be a very big and popular mod, and those normally include a lot of mod resources, voice actors, quality insurance testers, you name it, and the mod author would have to be giving all those a cut??

I think the best a mod author could hope to make out of this would equate to minimum wage when compared to the hours they put in.

But I could be wrong, I guess we'll see

Unfortunately people - even modders - are greedy and dumb. See also Wet and Cold being sold for FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS.

Hoping it will all work itself out with altruism isn't going to cut it. Furthermore, we're only talking about the current generation of modders. There are almost no people who were modding games for Morrowind who are still modding Skyrim. The torch gets passed and new modders take it up. Yeah, we might have some modders who believe in the old ways and will offer it for free, but with time, they will move on with their lives, and a new generation will take over, a generation that's been raised on microtransactions, DLC, greed, and selfishness.

And that's the end of free modding forever.

I have already paid over $100 NZD to get a premium account on this website, paying for mods would just kill me. Modding should never be seen as a money making platform, but rather a collection of people working together to improve the experience of a game they have already paid for. I am happy to donate every so often to enormous and well made mods like Moonpath, but you are gravely mistaken if you think I am willing to pay money for a skin texture or busty statue mod.

I understat the modders dessire a compensation but if i need to pay to mod, sorry i don't go to use mods, i don't think a mod can have enought to be selled, except the dlc size mods like falskaar or something alike, sorry, a donation might be good, but force to pay or not have, i select not have.

Sorry for my bad english, im not english, im skilled reading english, bt im not ussed writting in it,

Then don't buy into the system. There will always be modders doing stuff for free so don't lose hope that you will still be able to find good mods.

We are here to play a game, it's a game not life. We mod to make the game more enjoyable and we share that experience, so others can enjoy the difference we have made. Where does money come in to it.

This. I've downloaded a ton of mods that I wouldn't pay a dime for. I've also downloaded a bunch I would happily donate money for (after using it for a week or so.) I will never pay an amateur up front, but happily donate if it works, and I use it, afterward.
