Valve/Bethesda announce paid modding for Skyrim, more games to follow

It's just sad, I would donate money to every mod author who's mods I ever used if I could but I'm not Mr. Superrichguy. If for some reason I had to start paying for mods the outcome for me would be to simply not use them and if it were something like "pay for any mods you ever will use" Then I wouldn't play that game.

Let's face it Skyrim is a pretty mediocre game without the modding community and assuming the money split is no where near into the modders favor Beth and Valve should be ashamed actually.

You can't try the mod without buying and you have no insurance that it will work after 24 hours refund protection ends.

Imagine trying out hundreds of mods before you find out the ones you like, it will cost you hundreds or even more if you have to buy them. that is modding kill for me and i will just stay away from such games.

Anyways i hope that at least they stop pooping on Mod name and call it what it is - Third party DLC

The GECK/CK haven't been touched for years. It doesn't warrant Bethesda a reward. The monetary cost of maintaining Steam is rock bottom low so it doesn't warrant Valve such a high amount. This is a raw deal for modders who are doing the real work. I implore modders everywhere to give the Steam Workshop the cold shoulder here on out, its starting to become bad for consumers and modders alike. And I agree with Laxe fully.

If USKP will be on the sale.
It just shows how lazy and accurate Bethesda is.
Number of bug fixes in USKP/UDGP/UDBP/UHRP is mind boggling. Edited by insaneplumber

Having to keep an eye on the Workshop in case of thef leaves no spare time for Modding even. It becomes a fulltime job.

Not true. I made the leap from mods to professional development and know many others who have. You're right that there isn't time to be a dedicated modder after that, but I enjoy making games quite a bit. That's why I modded in the first place. I assume that's why most do.

If you want to be a pro, go be a pro. That's what I'm saying. This path is halfway between pro and hobbyist, and as a result, it's neither.

i know darn well that i will the nexus IS superior and forever will be. far too much is entangled with it and non steam software (SKSE,Loot and MO to name the more prominent examples) to go down over this fiasco. Steam has NO way to support these mods (and considering the almost violent reaction most support software has to steam it never will) and in order to sell any they could only be able to sell basic mods (armor, weapons, followers you know the simpler stuff) all of which the nexus has a leg up on with more script intensive works that TRULY modify the game

So Nexus will be closed?

I mean if the pay for mods will be legal Nexus will either have to make pay for mods policy or it be closed for being place where people do piracy.... Really not sure whats going on now... I always made mods for people to enjoy. Seeing greed comes into the place it will punish everyone who wants others to be happy for nothing than a good word in return

isokus mod are still avaible on the nexus for you to try out as much as you want without spending money the versions on the workshop are just updated, if youre not willing to spend money then simply dont noone is forcing you to spend money....

and if you currently spend $1 you can try out every mod there is.... and $1 for 17 days is very little
