Nexus Taboo?

I'm sorry but what is your five year old going to see over your shoulder? A bunch of text? It's not like the word LLab is going to harm your kid. Nor is a link to Llab because as far as I know you need an account to download anything there and it would be next to impossible that you accidentaly browse to a mod that facilitates rape while you have a five year old watching. Nearly every picture or link within *site not allowed* is hidden with spoilers anyway.

Doesn't that site showcase porn adds....I'd say that is something a five year old shouldn't be seeing, and could potentially introduce them to a world that they are a bit to young to be introduced to.

They go and remove all the graphic banner ads and such? Because wow...how'd you miss those? Cause no account needed for them ads. That is my own personal issue with full links to the site. You can see these banner ads without being logged in there is no "protection wall" if you will, protecting those that might be underage or otherwise dislike that kind of thing. Personally I'm not prude. But ya know, I'm a 43 year old Mom so not much I haven't seen. Doesn't mean I want to stumble upon it unaware. But the ads they choose to run have nothing to do about the content of the site which is a separate issue (and I don't mean that in a bad way just that the content and the ads are not the same topic.)

Personally I have no issue with the site (and yes I know some things have been said about me. I don't care and I have always tried not to say anything bad. I don't know those folks and they don't know me. Why should I care or worry or engage?) There are some folks that do great stuff there. There are arsehats. Same as everywhere I guess. However if Robin said that links were suddenly allowed I wouldn't go and remove them from every thread I saw just because. I would certainly explain my concerns but as was said, this is HIS site.

@rms827-thank you! Kudos for you for understanding how free speech actually applies, and does not apply.

Well I do not know about Nexus's relationship with that website, but the games that are the main focus of their modding community (Fallout, Skyrim, and Oblivion) are all rated "M" in North America and therefore they're really, really not intended for children to begin with. Their player demographic largely consists of older teens and adults; and there is absolutely nothing wrong with making adult oriented mods for a game that is meant to be enjoyed by an older audience anyway...

Ah, didn't notice/know about the porn ads when I read the linked thread last night because I run adblock (as it's a 256kbps connection and ads make it like I'm back on dial-up...) on my laptop and I'm in a hotel (with my laptop, not a desktop) this weekend. Yes, that is an issue. That stuff needs to be behind an age gate (even if it's as simple as the one on the Nexus).

I don't see banners because I use addblock. However I still think it's very irresponsible to let a child of that age onto the nexus (or the internet in general) unsupervised. Also you can just very easily add the website to the blocked websites list in your browser. Most webbrowsers have very simple ways to filter out mature content, if you're letting your kids use your computer freely I suggest you take a look into that because they will be finding and actively looking for porn and dirty stuff even at a young age. Boys will be boys.

Still doesn't explain why the word loverslab has to be blocked though. You have many ways to avoid your kids from ever seeing that website: Adding the webpage to your filter. Not going to loverslab. Not allowing your kids to browse the nexus unsupervised.

I mean if your logic is: But they can find the link and find dirty stuff. Must I remind you that the same counts for google, bing, wikipedia, youtube etc etc? There's dirty stuff everywhere it is your job as a parent to decide what is safe for your child no need to sensor a modding website (which isn't meant for kids that age anyway) in such a ridiculous way, as in not even allowing the word. Not allowing pornographic links I get, but even blocking the word itself and links to non-pornographic mods?

Dark0ne isn't concerned about search engines. Don't make a logical argument fallacy here with bringing up things that have nothing to do with the discussion at hand. We regularly, per our Terms of Service, remove links that contain content that we would have behind the adult tag safety net. For example, if we find (or it is reported) that someone has linked their screen shots (in the general image share) to a album that contains adult content we will ask them to remove the link or do so asking them to only link to albums that do not contain this..or have one to sign in to see the content (like here where adult content and images are not show to guest as a default.)

These are the rules on this site. The site referenced is one that has these ads and there is no attempt at blocking them at all.

Perhaps a young child should not have access unsupervised but we are not here to comment on someone's parenting skills. We follow the rules that have been set out on this site. It is lovely that you have ad block. Not all do and not everyone would know that this site or that site may contain adult content. We get new folks every day. It may be a ,"hey a great hair mod is here *link*" and someone clicks thinking that they are going to get the nice hair...and then they see a bunch of ads that are of an adult nature.

We are not going to openly allow links to sites we know have these ads, that provide no notice or attempts to block for under 18, when we ourselves provide "walls" and safeguards as much as we can for that content here. That would make little sense. It is not a moral objection or even personal objections. It is the rules that are set in the Terms or Service that you need only read to see.

Yes porn and objectionable content can be found easily. We are not here to facilitate it. We will not say in the Terms of Service that we will put adult content behind certain barriers and then allow links to any known place with said content that does not at least attempt to have these same safeguards. This particular issue is not about LL it is any link we find that would have this content open free and clear with just clicking the link.

If LL did not show these ads until someone made an account and signed in as yes I am 18 or older and understand there is adult content here, I am not sure there would be an issue in this regard.

This entire thread is like watching a forest fire. Put a little water on it. Add some sand. Stir it up and think it's dead - when one gust of hot air blows it into a giant flaming hell of ruin.

The content of ads and the content of mods at that site are irrelevant, because it has already been stated that the reason for the ban is that some posters there said some mean things about Nexus moderators.

Beyond that, remember this is a PRIVATE site. Dark0ne has the right to put what restrictions he sees fit on the site. Civil rights against censorship and such only apply as protections against government involvement in peoples' lives. That's something nobody seems to understand anymore.

Totally irrelevant. Nobody invoked civil rights in this discussion, so your pedantic rant is moot.

Waste of time, the level is just too low for me.

The staff members have given their explanation, if some people are unable to read properly or aren't able to tolerate a argued opinion, there is nothing I can do and it's not my problem.
