Serious. It won't happen if your browser has secure privacy settings and that you have a solid AV. The host that uses the ad service can also make it more secure by sandboxing it or implement a strict SOP. Still, most infections occurs after the user has clicked on the ad.

I allow these ads. I even don't have adblockers installed. Why ? Because they need an income. If you advises to find another source of income, please suggest them. Be sure that you can reach an income of > 780,000 US $ on yearly base.

Also " Adverts turn people away " is not true. Look to major sites like YouTube. You can say that sites like Pinterest / Facebook doesn't have ads, but they gain their income by selling/using visitor's data. Or wikipedia ? They rely on charity. Their costs is also lower than this nexus.

So please don't yell if this site wants to use ads. Nothing is free. Especially hosting a large file service that Nexus provides. If you have problems with that, then do what you have said with " Adverts turn people away ". Go away. Or you're a hypocrite.

Nail on the head. Until internet advertising is regulated very strictly by an agency that has sharp teeth, people will continue to block them. We need addresses for the advertisers, one-click methods to find out who serves an ad, and tight region regulations to ensure that they cannot use the "but I'm in china" defense when an ad causes problems.

I want to see ad agencies serve up ads while shaking in terror at the ever-lingering fear they will be fined into dust or even jailed on conspiracy cybercrime charges for a single malicious ad.

I seriously think in the list of ads to be reported should include

 

* any adds that feature adult material.

 

I distinctly remember seeing 2 ads back to back when I first joined the nexus that I found very disturbing. The first add had to do with material related to erectile dysfunction and the 2nd add that showed right after it had to do with breast enhancement.

 

My first thought when I saw those 2 ads displayed was " Is this really material that should be on a games website?"

As a Lifetime member. I would like to be able to toggle on adverts if it will help the site. I have good scanners running and am not worried about viruses. And simply ignoring the adverts isn't a burden to me at all.

It's an unfortunate part of modern day targeted advertising, which generates content based on the viewer's browsing habits. And it's not going away because companies strongly believe it's an effective means.

So what you're saying is because I go to WEBMD and look up my mothers prescriptions who I care for, i get ads like that?? O_o lol

Nice job! I had my adblocker off for this site but I encountered an ad with sound which pissed me off and made me turn my adblocker on. I forgot to mention it in the forum though. ^_^'

 

Don't take the users with their adblocker on as rude though, many people, including me (on other sites), do it to avoid having their computers infected by a virus. You guys stay on your toes, make sure the ads are clean and appropriate and people won't have a problem with having ads. It's nothing personal.

 

By the way, if it's possible try to have more still ads and less animated ones. :/

Advertisements flowing, following, and repeatedly reminding us we've done some research on a product we thought we might buy are blinking robbing us of Gigabytes of Data which we could use for uploading and downloading Mods.

 

I've checked and in one week adverts drained more Data then I used personally. One advertisement about a two person camping tent followed me for weeks after I had purchased another. it eve was rudely reminding me of the best web services to buy the one I didn't buy.

 

People are paying for faster ISP service and paying dearly for 1 Gigabyte per month, and it gets eaten by video ad's, following reminders, and scores of hitch hiker advertising companies who've discovered how to track another companies cookies after the browsers shut off and restarted on their Computer the little bug hitches on to the Mobile phones. Verizons Supercookies got a lot of news on that subject.

Well, it won't be popular, but you could always redirect the user into a 10 second add before downloading. I've seen other sites use that method...

 

Honestly, at $2, there's no excuse why any person on this site should not be a "supporter". If you've ever downloaded more than one mod, pay your $2! Remember the paperboy: "I want my 2 dollars! 2 dollars!"
