My take on Skyrim

Well it started at gamestop... the fever, the raging war in my head when I saw the Gi with the Skyrim logo on it. I knew and know now that 300+ hours of my life have been captured again by this company called Bethesda, and so it begins.

I don't really have anything new to add to the hype but rather just how I feel and what I've done to prepare for the next edition.

For a start I am a huge fan, Bethesda is one of my favorite game companies and they have been for quite sometime. I played Morrowind quite a bit but I liked oblivion even more. I have owned oblivion on every platform available and I know I must have spent in reality around 500 hours or more of my life in that game.

My first concern was platform... what to get it on. Well I like pc versions for the mod support but I was still concerned about controller support. I know F3 & NV had it but I knew what it was like on oblivion. I did a lot of digging and found pinnacle so if on a off chance it does not for some reason, this fixed oblivion for me so I'm not worried and decided to go with PC. I am proficient with kb&m but it is a matter of comfort and if I need to do something complex the keyboard sits close so no problem there. I called Bethesda last week and they said it should but they could not say for sure. I wish someone would just come out and tell us the need to knows. It's three months from launch and I feel we need a few more cookies!!!

So I have the PC version pre-ordered. I checked the sys req and was like no prob and then I saw the game play vid from E3. I was very impressed and then I says uh-oh need more gpu!!! I could just tell by the way it looked with the new engine and the mechanics of the game appeared that I needed a little more pull from that department. When I built my rig I knew that would really be the only thing left to upgrade for awhile so I just ordered two 2gb GTX 460's for sli. I know it's not top of the line but I think for the money it was a good deal. I think 16gb ram and 1100t black edition should handle the rest nicely :) So I am set.

What are you doing to get ready for Skyrim?

My only other concern is this steam nonsense....... I mean I'll get Skyrim no matter what but I don't need that junk. I never played NV but I had L4D and it had steam on it. I just personally feel that I don't need another program running in the background. I know you only use it once but for L4D it had to be on all the time. I don't think I had any issues with it other than it used up system resources. I have not had it on since I rebuilt my pc and it may be nothing now, but my personal preference would be to leave it out. If people want steam they'll buy it on steam. I like owning a physical copy of my games so whats the point of a use once and destroy copy? This is another need to know question I feel we should know three months away from release.

Now from what I can see of the game it looks amazing. I have no worries in that aspect and it looks like they have really outdone themselves. I am not overly critical till I see the final product. Also I want to see some 1080p videos I have not found any yet asides from the trailer. I personally still think oblivion looks pretty good even know you can tell its got a few years on it now.

Wow, dual wielding? Dragonshouts? Seriously? This is going to be a fun winter! The mechanics and concepts look very impressive from where I stand. The dragons look very nice in motion too!!!

I would like to see this or that in the game but I understand they can't put everything in so I'll take what I get!!!!

So final analysis is asides from wanting more info and videos, I am pumped!!!!!!! I don't think they'll do us wrong and after I play through vanilla a couple times I hope I can look forward to a MMM and OSO in the future!!!!

Dragons? I say bring it on!!!!

As someone who can't afford to build a new PC right now, I seriously hope that's overkill. After all, spec-wise it's primarily being built for consoles, so unless the PC version is an total afterthought rush job made the day before release...

I bought a 6870 and a 1090T six core, and have already 4 gb of RAM.

Speaking of RAM, you do not need 16 gigabyte! That is the extreme overkill!

8Gb is overkill too, 6Gb is good but still a lot, 4Gb is just enough for games and modding.

Also, 2 GPU's only for Skyrim? Overkill indeed, one is totally enough.

Either that or you are filthy rich, then it's ok.

8Gb is overkill too,

With 8gb of ram I can run Firefox, Photoshop, NifScope(multiple instances), windows media player, the CS and fire up OB to test changes without shutting anything down.

I'm adding graphics cards for Skyrim, I already had the ram because my pc is also a workstation and I run some very, very resource hungry programs so yes I need 16gb(I still experience lag at times.), 32gb would be even better for me.

Overkill for skyrim probably, but as the old saying goes I rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Besides it's already there so it's just an added bonus.

I run two 9600 gt in sli atm and I do experience frame rate loss at times, I think mainly because of heavy modding. I hope the new cards fix the issue. I think i read somewhere that a bigger display requires a better gpu, not sure if that is the truth though? I just want the game to look as good as it can and have healthy room for modding.

You can also budget shop for pc parts and get some good deals. You buy a part every now and then and it soon adds up to a beast! I have been building mine for three years now off and on. So you don't have to be rich just work hard at it swap around and watch eBay, Pricewatch, TigerDirect, and Newegg and you can do it!

I wish they would release official sys req for it already.

I'm sure several other artists on here will know how crap 4GB and out of mem errors are.

If you have 16GB and don't use it for anything, puppies die.

I have 6GB of RAM and I regularly use Softimage, ZBrush, Photoshop, Chrome and have music playing in the mix all without a hiccup. So I think that should be enough for one game.
