elderiii
I'm fine with FO3 or FONV size and quality textures. But those who aren't fine can always wait for qarl!! I'll enjoy it as it is out of the box, but I will be one of the first to download Qarl's textures if he does another pack of them for Skyrim. :)
hoofhearted4
The game will run great on all the platforms, have no fear.you must not have been around for any previous Bethesda releases... 3 weeks of saturation posts about unique hardware crashes :whistling: Idk, Morrowind and all it's expansions through New Vegas all ran great on my pc with only occassional crashes mostly due to mods. But then again I've built my own powerful systems for the past 11 years. Not sure why people always gripe about it. i played FO3 on Ps3 and FONV on both Ps3 and PC, and ive had game freeze, crashes, falling through the map, losing the image of my gun, and many other bugs on both systems with both games, without mods and with mods. though looking at the ones i listed, they were mostly small, non game breaking bugs (save the the crashes) but still. FO3 GOTY froze many many times for me (though it seemed to happen less often the more i played it, but that could just be an illusion) as for Skyrim, as ppl have said, its being gimped for console. unless the game is developed entirely separate (the way to go) there is no multi platform game that will fully test your brand new PC. Im excited for Skyrim (it will be my first Elder Scrolls games..i couldnt get into Oblivion because i hated how the melee looks, hate it in Fall Out too)...i am building a PC (not specifically for Skyrim) so i will be able to enjoy the game, how many argue how its supposed to be enjoyed. however, i wont be getting it on 11.11.11 (mostly cause my PC wont be built by then) but also cause im not THAT excited about it, especially knowing its not going to live up to the hype fanboys have been putting it up to, cause its going to be gimped for consoles....just hope the melee differs more then a giant X pattern lol :P
Uzibeatle
Well while you were posting I had decided on my own to experiement further out of curiosity. I tried to compress with BSA files that were not expansion BSA files. THe results were no where near as good. FNV main texture bsa less than 1 percent compress. FNV main mesh bsa .. about 5 percent compress both of these are around the 1 GIG mark filesize.FNV main Voices bsa about 25 percent compressionFNV main sounds bsa about 33 percent compression The expansion BSA must be full of highly ineffecient fluff and was a bad example. My error. So not such great improvements.Could be you were right. It is pure marketing BS. Well I guess we will see come release. If I was to blame anything I'd blame the consoles but hey, they can't have mods so nah nah nah nanny poo poo. We pc users can have mods to fix the textures. I've never seen anything like it, the discussion board was nearly dead while the tech help one was going at a ridiculous speed. If you refreshed the page straight after starting a new thread you'd find the thing three pages back. Oh well fingers crossed, Bethesda have held their hands up and admitted their track record isn't great, I just hope they've actually done something about it. JimboUK
so by comparison FO3 (pre vegas) was a cake walk :wallbash: I put FO3 on one monitor, the task manager on the other and watched FO3s memory use, it soon become obvious why the game crashed a lot and why the large address aware thing helped, the damn game leaks like a sieve. FONV was a lot better, most of the quests were broken but the game didn't crash anywhere near as often.
Goliath978
My modded version of oblivion is 19 gb
demongoat
So does that mean that the other 6gb will have to be downloaded off the Internet? As a safety thing? Because optimized it may be, BF3 itself is 12 gb. I can't see how they'd compress a game half or more it's original size. I see something to do with online activation to get the other half of the game since piracy is so common with singleplayer games.Devs at Bethesda have said that they've learned to become very good at making open-world games, and how to make a small install. They also use BSAs, one of the best compression methods. Oblivion was a small installation...do you think it was a small game?shoot isn't that pretty much true for everything? :)i mean age of conan is 30 gigs and it was crap.
