Bethesda HD pack override

I have the no-sound problem now.

Here are my steps, perhaps someone could point out where I'm going wrong.

  1. Uninstalled my mods with the NMM
  2. Browsed to steamapps/common/skyrim
  3. Browsed to Documents/My Games/Skyrim
  4. Opened the Skyrim.ini files in each directory
  5. Replaced the entire block of text under the [Archive] header with the following:

    sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsasResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

  6. Saved both files.
  7. Re-installed my mods (HD 2K Texture mod included) with NMM.
  8. Started the game -- no voices, no real sounds either.

Would someone be kind enough to point out what I need to do in order to make things work?

Go over the instructions carefully again... You overwrote a line in the ini that needs to be there.

Sorry for "spamming" in this thread. Could not get crashes to end even after reinstalling game and all mods. Decided to delete my saves and start new game. So far after no crashes. But sometimes some textures appear only as purple. I have 1024mt video card memory and 3072 RAM. Is too low memory causing these purple textures? I dont have any FPS issues thou game runs with high settings really good. Edited by jore666

Can be indeed if there is many processes running in the background. In this specific case utilities like Game Booster can help you.

Lets assume you have these two lines in Skyrim.ini under the "[General]" section

uExterior Cell Buffer=36

uGridsToLoad=5

make sure the numbers are not greater than these (which are default) for it would be memory killing in your system. (Notice the uGridsToLoad is always odd number and uExterior Cell Buffer is the uGridsToLoad + 1 squared ... in the case (5+1)^2.

Many tweaks for powerful machines advise increasing those numbers to 7, 9 or even greater... this is fine but too demanding on anything less than the most powerful machines over there. And have a problem, simply reducing the number of grids to load invalidates savegames. I hope is not the case, if it is, come back to instruction on how to reduce that number and still be able to use previous savedates.

Trying Game Booster now also I did not have "uGridsToLoad=5" line at all in skyrim.ini. Only had "uExterior Cell Buffer=36" added uGrids line there.

Error bolded for emphasis, you appear to be missing a , and a space between the 'Skyrim - Sounds.bsa' and the 'sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim'

No, ResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa should be on a new line

Well, I don't think them being mashed together is helping, so there's supposed to be a new line instead of the , and space ;)

so let me get this straight, bethesda official textures are better in what? so i could manage my mods with it

am sorry if someone already posted the same question but its 9 pages and am lazy to read all :P

They are not better at all but cover so far more textures than other mods like "Skyrim HD - 2K Textures" for instance. But when this mod will be finished, it will be way better than the official textures.

2K Texture pack is seriously overrated. It changes the look of the art direction way too much and looks very amateurish. The official pack from Beth does not change the art direction but still enhances the original textures, something 2K fails utterly to do imo.

Ok i was messing around today trying to find the easiest possible way to pick the textures you want for replacement. Download FO3 archive utility, File->Open Archive, open either bsa, highlight the folders you want, hit Action->Extract selected files, pick where you want to extract to, and bam. Also unpacking them went a lot faster than I expected :thumbsup:

@Oomo: to each their own

Bump :D

I agree that the texture packs and lighting mods people are releasing tend to change the art style of the game a bit too much for my own tastes.

I'll add a few moderate light mods, but too often they make it way too dark, and require too much customization to make it work for your tastes.
