New Nexus Mods design launched

First I want to congratulate you for this early release. As an IT-specialist and educated webdesigner in the past I know what a gigantic undertaking that means, to renew a portal of this size and port all that stuff over. I'm sure you are doing a great job. And it's future-oriented, of course. Gamecons are showing where the way goes and nobody who's is public can withdraw this evolution.

As a private user I think: It's the worst annoying thing of the internet and of a lot of software permanently changing their UI or updating stuff. It's so much time consuming to learn the new UI and time is what I simply not have. As a user I want to open a site and in short time to overlook where the important buttons and links are, so I can do the things I have done in the past easily without delay.

My first look at the new design was oh - how can I do this and this and this and where is that link and bla... No, this is not a user friendly design. On the first view. I did a second and third and I think not all is bad, but some things are.

The optical overload with too much pictures for me is a point of critic. The old side had a balance between text and pictures and the overview about recent activities from comunity and staff I have with only one look are a really nice thing. Now I have to scroll down a lot to see announcements or the media section. I hate to scroll that much. I could push the button to get to the video or picture section but than I have to load a new site. For me the new design is simply optical overkill.

But this is the trend. I can't do nothing about it so I hope the old design will stay some time longer and otherwise I have to learn how it works to achieve what I want to.

And no, I don't like to have a github account for reporting bugs. Too much accounts, too much passwords. Where, the hell are we going? But that's another subject.

Thank you for what you are doing, I'm pretty sure your intention is to make it best.

He's stated "don't fix it not broken" because it's a dumb argument that nobody should bring forth.

i'm going to say this i love the new tabs at the top of the page so much more info then before and love the new tracking center much easier to track the mods i fallow but i don't like all this empty space as some people have said it would be cool if you could be able to minimize sections of the page like

More mods
Media
News & Updates
or at-lest be able to hied them
skepticck wrote: I don't see anyone insulting you so why do you feel the need to insult other people just because they may have a different opinion than yours?
Contrary to what you seem to think your opinion is just that, no more or less important than anyone else's.

You like the new design then good for you, i like parts of it too but contrary to you i don't feel that i my opinion is all that matters or that i should calling names to anyone who dares not share it.

Here's a word for you "Egotism", look it up.

how am i insulting other people?, i'm not even insulting any one.
if you think bitchy people is a insult then you really don't know what an insult is.
and your missing the point of what i said

"instead of saying "don't change to the new one", why don't you tell them why you don't like it and what they should fix to make it better."

I'm trying to encourage feedback instead of people just saying i don't like it and not tell why they don't like it.

as for Egotism i'm far from that and i find that more of an insult if any thing :/

Ethreon wrote: "how am i insulting other people?"

"seems like theres a lot of bitchy people"

Basically everyone that disagrees with the new website look is "bitchy". I think you need to shut it and sit down.
fredlaus wrote: This is a large change for many of us fans, Rex7Dragon95.

The process has been very "undemocratic".

The design as we see it today is not new, neither as a graphic design or as a web design, and we accuse the creators for being ignorant.

What you see know is what we are critizising.

Why is Jokerine "leaving the premises?

She has been the most colorful designer on this site for many years - delivering top designs all the way.

There are many more questions to ask and I will not ask them here in the open.

this isn't a democracy tho, is just a website, and bitchy is not even an insult, he s just saying some users don't even try to like the new style, feel betrayed and stuff, instead of give proper feedback. Edited by RobRoger

Tasheni, thank you for your insight. You are a professional and your opinion matters; however, there might be other professionals with different insight than yours and probably if we choose, 10 for saying a number, some of them will agree with the new design and others will not.

I disagree with whoever is criticizing that there is too much of scrolling ...all major websites in the net required that you scroll down to look for everything, newspapers, photography forums, game reviewers, etc, etc, etc ... so I do not see what the fuss is about scrolling down.

I think there was a mistake from Nexus by asking everybody's opinion about the new design. When you do that, there will be 1000 that agree and another 1000 that disagree. The owners of this website have all the right to do whatever they want with their website even if we like it or not, otherwise, they will never finish pleasing everybody simply because that is impossible.

This is not a democracy. They decided to do it that way. The person they hired to design the site, did what he/she was thinking it should be good and they owners agreed with that design. They paid for and they finally agreed with the design that we already have. Period. We need to just accept it the way it is and try to navigate and learn it. By not doing that, we are just simply adding more wood to the bonfire and the lit will never fade out. We will be in a loop, some agree and some disagree and that is a waste of energy folks. It is what it is and we should stop because simply put, it will be impossible for the owners to please everybody.

Finally it is up to them if they want pay attention to some trends and fix them. We have not said anything positive to the effort they put to give us something that in the mind, was very acceptable, and I know that there is a lot of members in this forum that have not idea about programming at all. Some are just whining without even knowing a bit about what it takes to do something like this.

To Nexus management : thank you again for what you did. Again, personally, I do like it and you did what you thought was right. More important than this is Vortex in my opinion. I do hope that you test it all they way before you put it out and I can't wait for it.

maybe because more and more people are looking for mods on other sites other than the nexus and they thought this would win back those users? People just want a download link to the mods and don't care so much how cool the website looks

Yeah, from all those other sites with 13+ million members (an over 30% increase in the past year) and over 237,000 files for over 470 games.

People are just flocking to them.

Ashes2Asherz wrote: 470 games and only about 10% of those games have more than a 100 mods available for them.. Most have under 10 mods available.. Many have Zero mods available... As for my game Skyrim which is also the Nexus most popular game, most of the newer popular modders don't publish on the Nexus.. Team Tal, Ravendier, Dint.. as well as some old modders Halo, Pero, Robo etc... So yes people are looking elsewhere for mods because many modders don't want to publish on the nexus anymore...

Also your stats don't tally in how many people are inactive on the site..
Dark0ne wrote: 113 games have 100 files or more on Nexus Mods. That's 24% of the games we serve.

And games under 100 mods is probably due to those games being rather small community wise, with already dedicated hubs.

"this is not a democracy" is such a stupid argument. Website's put out a change, users are free to express their feedback on it within the limits of the rules ie no swearing and such. Not being a democracy has 0 bearing on people's ability to offer feedback on functionality and/or aspect until such rules are put in place to strictly forbid feedback. Until then, how about we let everyone state their opinion and not try to block them cause "this is not a democracy/stop whining!" ?

I'm not terribly a fan of the change but since it's here to stay may I suggest changing the color of the toolbar that has the mods, images, etc. It's rather bright in contrast to the rest of the page and the color difference between the text and background of it strains the eyes to read

I follow your point there, Ethreon :)

The more discussion/arguments, bad or good, the better the site will develop and function for the future.

Hallelujahs are for non democracies.

to Dark0ne

Please forgive me for a dumb question

Think it's was, but I'm too slow and maybe something miss from my attention :D

I correct understand it, that's are You planning completely remove old style layout? Without any options "change skin" or something like it.

And the will have only one modern style.

Else, about skin of forum.

Is the forum`s skin will change too? Or only site style will be changed? ))

Thanks!

You have understood Dark0ne correctly. There will soon be only the new UI for the Nexus game sites, and no going back. Obviously mobile users will have a slightly different experience, but part of the goal is to make things as similar as possible across all platforms.

(To date there has been no announcement about changes to the Forums. But stay tuned.)
