Can Synths reproduce sexually?

Synths are apparently indistinguishable from humans except for a synth component and that seems more for the purposes of tracking and neurological shutdown. Hard to imagine it is also serves as a birth control device.

What is your opinion on the issue of Synth sexual reproduction?

My microwave oven and "smart" fridge had been acting a little funny for awhile. One night I noticed a few spikes in the electrical grid and turned over and went back to sleep. Next morning I woke up to find a new coffee maker and toaster in my kitchen! They had twins!! :tongue:

I think a hundred years from now, most or all humans will be at least part machine. Once the biological part of humans is better understood, similar reproduction in pure synthetics may be achievable. The problem I see is why do this if it is not efficient?

Even in sci-fi with a species like the borg- who seem much more machine governed by pure logic than human- their offspring is born almost completely human and then converted. A pure synthetic would find the most efficient means to reproduce itself without a need for distinctive characteristics like we have in each and every human- at least not unless there was a need for this. You would get a billion synthetics reproducing for a specific purpose, not just because they can.

@mokshaEighty-EightyEight-er.

an interesting hypothetical.

it calls into question "sentient rights" and concepts like "detente, pluralism and freedoms" etc.

It depends, on what the Synth is.

if they are biological lifeforms, they might be able to have descendants.

or, there might be 'genomic copywrong protection" and 'pay-to-play", for them to need to apply for a "Descendant License"...

ie, if they attempt to have descendants without 'permission',

there might be copying errors which cause complications.

They might be able to clone, like Duncan Idaho style with a "ghola".

a direct 1:1 descendant which is a resemblance of itself...

they might even be able to have Human-Synth hybrid descendants... depending on how they make descendants.

like the Half Angel or Half Golem of yore hehe... nthpartite/tripartite hybrid descendants.

or, if they are mechanical machines/artificial sentient life,

they might make 'bootstrapping descendants' etc.

This is like a Protectron, cognizant enough to build and repair other Protectrons...

a similar goal has long existed in the RepStrap RapFab community;

to build a 3D-printer system which can build itself...

before you scoff too much;

it isn't improbable -

when people get sick, we see other people who specialize in medicine.

nowadays, we also have 'auto-docs', who can perform surgery also, so if people trust them, we can see AGI etc...

when a robot gets sick, they see robots or people who specialize in robot systems etc.

-----

I think it ultimately touches upon

"Cuius Ad Coelum Ad inferos ad astra".

SETI/SIPI kinda macro-futures.

it is a sentient rights question.

It is their right to have descendants; this right is an inalienable natural right of sentience.

I think it is ethically wrong to prevent them from having descendants, if that is what they wish,

and where doing so would do no harm.

who are any of us, to play at deity,

to delimit their freedom,

and if we must contemplate the hypothetical -

realistically, how can we prevent an AGI being more advanced sentience than our own, from doing what it will?

that is realpolitik ala force majeure - it could use force to do so, and we would be unable to prevent it.

Hence, why I found FO4's depiction of the BoS to be so odd.

The BoS is above petty fear, and has many different lifeforms serving within it,

including Sentient Deathclaws and Robots etc...

so, of course Synths would be allowed to serve.

Synths would be a tremendous asset to repairing the world and undoing the events of 2077.

The Enclave by contrast, would despise the Synths,

just as they despise the Mutants and other engineered lifeforms etc...

The Enclave are "anthropocentric/human chauvanistic" <--- if it is human, it is the best.

The SRB was evil - they were abusing folks like the Cyborg Kellogg against his free wlll;

kellogg was ordered to do terrible things against his wishes by the SRB.

the SRB hunted down anyone they called "defective" <--- remind you of 'eugenicism much"?

the SRB were who attacked Diamond City and University Pointe.

The Institute was not homogenous; many disagreed with the SRB,

that's how the Railroad was able to survive so long.

The BoS is only there due to Nuclear signatures and FEV,

(The Master from FO1 similarly emitted signatures).

and to evaluate the Synths...

they are not there, to eliminate the Institute in pre-emptive strike.

The Enclave might try a pre-emptive strike...

My theory, it all depends on the creator of the synth, they could be built to reproduce, (genetic uncertainty) or they could be created with no genitalia or sexual organs (most likely). Only to be determined by the synth creator alone. The synth component would most likely be a molecular nanosystem that the synth cells would be grown around.

For the purposes of Fallout 4 synths. No. They cannot reproduce. Nor do they age. Its flatly stated by someone in the Institute.

what is the definition of a "Fallout 4 Synth" ? I'm being serious, is it a nano bot construction made of polymer and silicone, or a bio-engineered genetic construct? I'm not really sure, but I do know that everything ages in this time space continuum.
