WTF DEVS? - can you complicate things more?

I wanted wanted Fallout4 VR to have darker nights.

  • Tried to subscribe to mod on bethesda; doesn't work
  • signed up on bethesda.com; mod doesn't work
  • signed up nexus to download and Install; mod doesn't work
  • downloaded and installed mod from mexus; doesn't work
  • downloaded vortex; mod doesn't work
  • uninstalled, then installed vortex on different drive; mod doesn't work

After I Installed two programs, gave email and password to sign into two different parties I am done. This is way way too complicated and frustrating for the quick setting change.

You might think - oh you just don't know what you are doing. Well, I'm a 42 year old game designer with about 17 years of experience and a degree in game art and design. I am more than capable to do what should be an easy task. I've searched the forums, watched the videos and have lost my patience with this. My time is limited and have important things to do.

this is in the Vortex forum , yet this has nothing to do with Vortex (not really a serious matter , but worth mentioning)

as to the problem itself , clearly you are doing something wrong , and this has nothing to do with any devs here on the Nexus (especially since you first tried to go through Bethesda.net , which has nothing to do with the Nexus)

my guess is , you just haven't set your game up for modding properly

as far as I know , NMM doesn't handle the VR version normally , so it requires some work to set it up (I easily found a tutorial , but since I don't have a VR set or the VR version of the game , I can't test it myself)

and your vast experience doesn't really matter , if you don't know how to handle a program like NMM (and this isn't meant as an insult , you just don't seem to know how it works , which makes sense as you weren't related to the NMM team , and you seem to be brand new to modding)

so , what you need to do is first decide which mod manager you want to use on your copy of the game (don't know if Vortex will work , I would guess that NMM is a safer bet)

then find a tutorial on how to set that mod manager to work with the VR game

afterwards just download and install the mod (not sure if there are different versions of the mods for VR , but if there is make sure you use the VR version obviously)

if you need any assistance , I'm sure people here would be more than happy to lend a hand , but it would be nice to start with a nicer and more informative approach (even after your second post , we still don't know what exactly didn't work with all of your attempts , so we can't really direct you to a solution without really knowing the problem , right?)

The only relevant point he seems to have is don't call NMM unsupported while you still have it as the featured download.

Wait until we get Vortex out of Alpha, then really replace NMM with it.

At the moment we are getting people downloading and using Vorttex that really do not know what they are doing, and that should really be on NMM for now.

Since I'm dumb as a door-knob to modding on this Vortex thing which I have not heard anything about. While we are at it what's VR? I hope for a little indulgence? Why can't I sign into NMM anymore? Anyone have an answer? It seemed to work fine over the weekend. Now I can't download anything to it or sign in. Thank you for any information. Sorry for interrupting.

Sincerely,

VR = the virtual reality version of FO4

What concerns NMM, Nexus servers have swapped from using HTTP to HTTPS and bar two 0.5.xx versions, none of the NMM versions prior to v0.65.0 can communicate with the Nexus servers as of 8 May because they use the HTTP protocol.

Get the latest versions of NMM on GitHUB. Use at least version 0.65.3 as older versions have a code error that won't allow you to manually sort plugins in NMM when an esl is loaded above an esm.

Now this sounds serious. Here it is 10 May, and the feature download version of NMM is currently 0.65.0, which you say is broken.

Please, please, for all that is holy, change Nexusmods.com to point to 0.65.3 - if that is indeed the version that works with HTTPS.

New users will have no idea about going to Github to look for a working release.

I don't want to see new users getting confused by a broken NMM - and then coming here both lost and discouraged.

No the link on Nexusmods.com (on the top of the main page) links directly to 0.65.2

And, even though I haven't tried it, I'm pretty sure that NMM will update itself to the latest 0.65.3 after installing 0.65.2. Additionally, 0.65.2 should work just as "well" (if you can even talk about "working well" with NMM).

Well the banner at the top still says 0.65.0.

If you click through to the download, you wind up with:

nmm.nexusmods.com’s server IP address could not be found.

I am not sure that is any improvement.
