newb trying to upgrade his pc...

hi, i want to upgrade my pc so it can run fallout 4 on well... better then medium lol

heres my current system that i know about

geforce gtx 760

windows 10 64bit

Processor: AMD Athlon X4 860K Quad Core Processor

Memory: 8192MB RAM

i figure i need a better graphics card and i've been looking on amazon and so far i like something like this

Whatever you do, when getting a new GPU, make sure it has at least 8GB of V-RAM. You might want to have a look at the AMD RX-580 series. The GamingX from MSI is among the better ones, even compared to some NVidia cards.

I bought a 1060 6gb card, with AMD X4 965 Black processor, and can run FO4 on ultra. I turn off God Ray's though...... Runs good too. :) (I also have uGridsToLoad set to 7)

it also depends on what type of mods you are hoping to run, and what your target resolution will be, for both the monitor and textures. and the most important being Budget

 

do you just want to be able to play on max settings, or do you want amazing visuals, that only mods and ENB and or Reshade can offer. ?

heres a reference for the type of Vram that will be required for running high quality textures

 

2k Textures = you will want atleast a 4 - 6 GB Vram

 

4k Textures = you will want atleast 8GB Vram

Setting grids to load at seven will tax the GPU even more, since that's two grids more than the standard setting.

well knowing that would be awesome and cool, i'm mostly hoping to run the game on max or high... i bearly make it past the medium bar at the moment and going into the city on fo4 is scary 3/4 times

Thats the same card that I just purchased. I am upgrading from a GTX 550 ti that I don't know why is not dead yet.

My new game starts always run smooth too. Takes a while for saves to become bloated and the Sanctuary area is pretty low on what it asks from your system too. Much better impression to see any limitations in regards to frame rate would be running it with mods, at level 40+ and shot in Boston with some fighting nearby.

Well, that will depend as everybody said. I have the Nvidia 1080Ti and I run my game on 2560x1440, Textures on Ultra, Light and Shadow on High and AA, SSAO, GodRays, Lensflare = off. I am using an ENB and about 80 mods. My fps vary from 40 to 140 depending and the reason is because I use the WOTC ( War of the Commonwealth ) mod, on Loose Cannon, meaning that my spawns are more enemies and more frequent. If I use 1080p for resolution, I would be able to run everything in Ultra and no questions about it and probably my fps will be higher or the same, don't know because I do not like that resolution. My point is that keep in mind what video settings you are going to choose, type and quantity of mods and do not hold your breath believing that you will have a steady 60 fps all the time.
