Just Returned To Nexus Mods After A Couple Years

To find out you have to pay a premium for download speeds. I find that to be extremely greedy and disappointing. Skyrim modding via Nexus Mods was good while it lasted I suppose, but I am definitely not paying a monthly fee to download something at the speeds of the internet I already pay for. Imagine looking forward to modding Skyrim after a couple years only to return to the classic website and find you have to pay for everything now.

Thank you for the history Nexus Mods, but you just lost a long time customer/donator.

I wish posts like these actually contained facts.

The download speeds for those who do not support the Nexus monetarily have always had that cap. This is nothing new. If you were a free member here "a couple years ago" the you had the exact same cap then.

And just like then, one never has to pay for the mods on the Nexus. But we appreciate any voluntary contributions that anyone cares to make.

More prominently? A countdown timer and a redirect mimicking shady download sites?

Are you taking the Mickey?

Prominent indeed. Another way to describe that is greedy and unethical seeing as this site is built on other people's content.

There are other ways to make money. This one is just plain exploitative.

I don't mind the download speed cap, and I don't mind the ads; but do I really have to be redirected and wait 5 goddamn seconds to download the mods? Who the hell thought that is in any way a good idea? It's now a pain in the ass to download mods with multiple files. Even going back to the files page is a hassle now.

Yes, that new screen is tacky, and bad. Prominent is an understatement for something that takes up a large portion of your screen, and makes you wait with a timer.

I don't agree with it, I think it's a really bad idea. But Robin is free to make his own choices, and run his business in the manner that he sees fit.

That business, provides a FREE to use platform for which other people can share their creativity and ideas with others, who may or may not enjoy them. At huge, enormous monetary expense. Take a look at how much traffic goes through this site. The numbers are actually posted. I can say right now, that there's NO WAY that the majority of us could afford to run an operation like this. This site is MULTI-National. This site runs TERABYTES of information WEEKLY. The nexus, is HUGE.

Oh, yeah, he could incorporate. Take on investors, share stocks. And lose control of what makes this site what it is.

To people who, actually really don't care, unless they're seeing profit.

If Robin really was the way that so many of you seem to think, he'd have sold this place off years ago, and made money off the deal. It'd sure be a relief off his shoulders, and he wouldn't be taking all the crap from people that he does, seemingly on a daily basis.

Exploitative. Hmmm. There are modders on here, who have been recognized by, and gone on to work for the big gaming companies. Because of this site. There are mods that are splashed all over youtube, and have grown to be commonly enjoyed by tons of people. Because of this site.

There are people on here, who have made contacts, and connections, with employees, from some of those big gaming companies. Because of this site.

No, because of ROBIN.

And the fact that he's willing to do alllll of this, endure all the headaches, name calling, accusations, the financial and legal troubles, to give something to everybody for free.

Just think about it.

Wow, Ive stayed active on this site just to support people leaving comments on my mods so I havn't even downloaded anything in these past years, but now that I actually do check out what a download page looks like its rather sad to see it looks exactly like Rapidshare or whatever other shady website.

Half of these shady websites gives you viruses as well if you wish to continue to the file your looking for, if that file even exists at all.

But hey, if Nexus wants to be like this, then I can only hold my breath for what will come in the future...

Maybe I should also enable the "donate" button that forces itself on users every time they wish to download my mods, that would give them two forced pages to go through, wouldn't that be something...

I'm just kidding, I never enable that button, if someone wants to donate to me its up to them but I'm not going to throw a "reminder" at players every single time they download something from my mod pages, its like spam and nobody likes it, people just want to go through their business in peace on this website without being spammed with constant "reminders" to donate or upgrade to premium.

This site should remember its roots and how it got to be so popular to begin with, instead of trying to squeeze every last drop of milk out of it, Nexus would be nothing if it wasnt for al the users creating mods and then others downloading these mods, for free, without being spammed.

But then again everything these days seem to be about DLCs and paywalls for all kinds of games before you get the full game experience, the whole gaming industry is al about releasing incomplete content and if you want the complete game you can wait a year and pay for another 10+ DLCs on top of it, not to mention some games now have casino-like systems in place to keep certain people with addiction issues hooked on their game (aka, lootboxes), and on and on it goes.

So considering how all of this is evolving these last years, it honestly comes to no surprise that Nexus wants a piece of this as well, and I'm certain that if the next Elder Scroll games comes up and Bethesda will push for mods to be behind paywalls (which they tried once already) then Nexus will have no choice but to follow suit or else they will either be in breach with Bethesda for releasing free mods, or Nexus will lose a big chunk of its player-base to sites like Steam that already have mods behind paywalls.

I have no faith in gaming companies anymore, each and every one of them eventually becomes corrupt and just wants to milk their customers instead of giving them a full and good experience like they used to, and I'm starting to loose faith in mod websites as well since its all going in the same direction, I guess greed trickles down and infects everything it touches.
