AugustaCalidia
Vortex > Mods Page > left click any blank area in mods list > on keyboard enter "Ctrl +A" > click on "Check for Update" in bottom taskbar that magically appears. That's not automatic, but it updates everything all at once. Edited February 1, 2020 by AugustaCalidia
HadToRegister
Not sure if I'd want something in the background automatically checking for updates while I'm playing a game.I'm sure that was the reasoning behind the decision.I've honestly never had much use for Update Checking, because I track the mods I download, so I get notifications on the Nexus instead, and can control and decide which mods I want to update. Pickysaurus
I'm not sure a mod manager has ever automatically checked for updates. If we did add it, there'd probably be people who complained up the "update nag" they didn't want to see.
Guest deleted34304850
when would the automatic update kick in? would it be on start up, or some other time period? how often should the automatic update take place? once at start up and then no more, or at a certain passage of time, while vortex is active? so, if for example it was active for an hour, it would perform an automatic update check on start up, then x minutes later - 10, 20, 30 etc.? also, if it performed continual update checking, that's going to be an issue for people on metered connections. especially if it checked and found no updates. AugustaCalidia
Automatic updates would also cause more people to exceed the download rate limit. See the following: https://help.nexusmods.com/article/105-i-have-reached-a-daily-or-hourly-limit-api-requests-have-been-consumed-rate-limit-exceeded-what-does-this-mean
Tannin42
When we originally started Vortex the way we had to check for updates required a request for each mod which would have been a considerable burden on the servers and from the user perspective it would have eaten up a lot of the api limit, as has been previously described. In recent versions of the api however we can just fetch a static file containing a list of mods that have recently been modified. This way automatic update check actually becomes more practical because for a daily update check we usually wouldn't need more than a handful requests.
