akslayde
Previous versions I didnt mind. But now it seems any time I change to or add a new game for Vortex to manage, it screws up the game it was previously managing. I changed to my FO4 profile, and tonight tried to change back to Skyrim, and it said I had no mods, that mods couldnt be deployed and a plethora of other errors. Now I have to try and figure this out as well, considering that the mods ARE indeed in the mod staging folder, and were previously working just fine before I changed games. This seems like a HUGE programming oversight.
Tannin42
Please send in a feedback where you attach your application settings - also when you get error messages, please provide us the exact and full error text, don't paraphrase. Otherwise we can't investigate the problem and any help we can provide is guesswork which isn't in your best interest. Which Vortex version are you using?Did you use a removable medium to store your mods or did the drive letter change for some reason? Did you switch between Shared and Per-User mode? Did you remove Vortex-related files from your AppData\Roaming\Vortex directory? Or run ccleaner or similar software that delete random files? Finally:If you have a valid staging folder and you know where it is, going to settings->mods you should be able to set the staging folder to what you had originally - if you're absolutely certain that that was the right folder. The most important part right now is that you don't panic and don't start deleting or moving stuff in an attempt to fix it before we had time to properly investigate, maybe this can be salvaged. Also: Please don't jump to conclusions. "programming oversight" this is almost certainly not, in normal operation Vortex will not just forget about your mods. I dont get on the forums much so I have no idea how much to navigate it xD Version:Latest as I updated it before I changed back to skyrim from FO4. Staging Folder:Is and always has been D:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ModStaging (Ive never change it) Current Settings:Default, I've never changed them since installing Vortex, or any of its updates. Error Messages:After the update, when it launched, I got; "Deployment method no longer supported""Missing Master Files" Of which, I did not get before as I had swapped back and forth between skyrim and FO4 before and it never had an issue =/ But, I updated it, swapped games, and this is where these issues began. I checked the Mod Staging Folder, where the mods used to be, and its completely empty. I checked my backup staging folder I had made on my desktop and copied a majority of them to (save for a few newer ones) so, if its not recoverable, at least I can replace from there and just pick up the few that its missing. HadToRegister
Staging Folder:Is and always has been D:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ModStaging (Ive never change it) You really shouldn't put the Vortex folders INSIDE the Steam folder, or any game folder etc. That's a pretty deeply nested Staging folder, because each game will add one more folder depth to that already long path. D:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ModStaging\fallout4\ D:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ModStaging\skyrimse\ etc

Tannin42
You're not really answering the questions though. When the question is: "Which version do you have?" The correct answer would be something like "1.1.15" or "1.2.9". Please let me be the judge of whether that is current because you wouldn't believe how many users apparently think that 0.17.8 is the current version. No offense, but please don't expect me to just trust you. When I asked for the staging folder you say "D:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ModStaging". Is that actually the staging folder you use for the game or is the staging folder in fact "D:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ModStaging\Skyrimse"? Because each game has its own staging folder. Also: Is that the folder which you say still contains the mods? And is that the folder that Settings->Mods shows as the staging folder for the game? If yes to both, could you please show a screenshot of your mods page? Then you say "and it said I had no mods" yet the error messages you posted are about Missing Masters and the deployment method being unavailable, so where does it say you have no mods? Then you originally said "considering that the mods ARE indeed in the mod staging folder", now in the next post you said "I checked the Mod Staging Folder, where the mods used to be, and its completely empty" so which is it? I hope you can see how this is all very confusing and thus it's difficult to help. Of course, considering your staging folder where Steam keeps the games it's managing, I think there is a good chance Steam simply went and deleted them at some point, assuming that it was left over garbage. You can't just put your custom data files into a directory managed by another application because you don't know how it will react.Just because "it has never been an issue until now" doesn't mean it's not the issue right now. Q: Where does it say you have no mods?A: When I click on "Mods" nothing is listed, when I open the staging folder, that IS used, it is empty. Q: You didn't really answer the questions though.A: Yes, I did. True I did not list a version number, but stating that it is the latest, and that I literally let it auto-update to the "Current version" as far as it is concerned means one of two things, or both. That either the software is not capable of updating to indeed the current version, or people are unaware of the version number of which corresponds to the "current version". Q: You stated the mods ARE indeed in the mod staging folder, bu tthen they werent, so which is it?A: They were there before I updated, they were NOT there after I updated. Q: Just because it wasnt a problem before, doesnt mean its not the problem now.A: Incorrect, software with stable pathing recognition and proper call functions, doesn't work that way. Conclusion: In the time this has been "negotiated" with really no investigation or insight, I have since fixed the problem. The problem was the method of linking somewhere along the lines was changed, I dont remember doing that, but I am not going to say its not possible. All the mods are now back in the correct places and loading appropriately. The nesting hasnt changed, and is not causing an issue, not with this game, or any other game. Unsure of why the linking method would matter, but I dont know how the software is written, so, I am not aware of how it would affect that or why. Either way, solved it on my own. Additionally: I dont expect you to trust me, but you might benefit from reading the entirety of things and taking an additional moment to understand them before assuming things. Also, simply because I didn't give a version number, doesnt mean I didnt answer the questions. I did indeed answer the questions. I personally feel your entire approach to this was very rude, when I offered more information than half of the people writing in regarding support issues. (IE A play-by-play of what I did, what happened and so on).
