JimboUK
Let's not do the "PC Gaming is Dead" thing again, we hear this every time a new generation of consoles come out, far from being dead PC gaming is stronger than ever. As for the PS4 the lack of a gimmick is good news, they may actually be concentrating on proper games rather than the casual crap which is slowly destroying Nintendo. A little more detail would have been nice though.
Alithinos
Oh too much catastrophology here.PC will be fine, don't panic. It can already play game as good as the next console generation, games on it are cheaper, hardware is becoming cheaper, and it will soon come in more form factors. And do not forget Valve's new hardware that has yet to be officially presented.I mean ps4's thing will be social network integration and sharing of your game's stuff in facebook and stuff. WiiU's thing is that you can split gameplay between 2 screens.PC's gameplay along with Valve's machinations will be about Virtual Reality Goggles and Gloves for manipulating 3d objects. We'll see what people will finally choose over something else. hoofhearted4
consoles arent meant to compete with PCs. they are meant to compete with other consoles. PS4 isnt trying to beat out your current rig with graphics and power. its trying to beat out the Wii U and the Xbox 720. STOP saying, omg these are the graphics my rig from 5 years ago put out. but i guess that will be impossible since im on a PC gaming forum. also, used games are a go! http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/730149/playstation-4-wont-block-used-games-sony-confirms/ Edited February 21, 2013 by hoofhearted4

ziitch
I noticed that they're trying to figure out how to do backwards compatibility. I know it's been tried with earlier hardware, but I think experimenting with an expansion slot would be worth trying. Having the option to buy a dongle with has a miniaturized CELL processor on it to allow PS3 compatibility may be the better way to initially go instead of relying completely on software emulation right now. After they figure out a way to emulate CELL on the PS4 through software, then that slot can be used for something else, or better yet be open for developers to mess around with. Beriallord
Its easy to see why there issues with backwards compatibility when the PS4 has a 3.2 ghz cell processor, and the PS4 has a 1.8ghz 8 core APU. They could make a working PS3 emulator on PC easier than they could on the PS4. Which is going to happen eventually with or without Sony being involved. Thor.
I have a lot more respect for Sony now, in your face Xbox, who knows what they would bring, like that bad idea always on drm. Sense 90% of the rumours where true about he ps4, i wouldn't be surprised. playstation for life  backwards compatibility would be easy with that beast of a system, sense they do have the raw horse power to do it, i think it can be done quite easily. Especially with ps2 games, and so on. Edited February 22, 2013 by Thor.

It looks like they'll be streaming the PS3 games Onlive style, they bought a company who specialise in it. Emulating the PS3 would be near impossible, the PS4 won't have anywhere near enough power to do it.
hoofhearted4
there is no backwards compatibility. you can however Stream PS1-3 games from the PSN. how that will work with games you already own is everyones question. suggestions ive seen is that it should be, you put the disk in the PS4, it will read it and unlock that game on the PSN. but you have to have the CD in to play it (so you cant just hand the CD around for everyone to unlock the game) no emulation required, just to read the disk.
