  1. There's a lot of information on Synths that we're not aware of. For instance the Shaun synth may or may not mature. And he didn't really seem bothered by the fact that he was turned off. I'm also not sure what happens when you turn them off. Do they just hybernate? Do they continue breathing? Living tissue cannot function without normal bodyparts to supply them. If Synths have a heart then that must keep beating otherwise the organic parts of the body will start decaying. Is it just the active part of the mind? The brain organizes conscious and subconscious functions. Like breathing and the heart are controlled by the brain. If you "shut it off" then that also stops and the body starts decaying. So which part of the brain is shut off for this to work? It at least inhibits motion and awareness when they shut down. But they don't fall over! So standing is still possible. I feel that Bethesda choose to treat them too much like a robot in this case. Standing up is not a function that can be controlled specifically if the brain is not functioning in a non aware state. Like sleeping. A person falling asleep would also fall over. Unless they are sleep walking, but that's a completely different condition. Sleep walking people are aware of their surroundings and can interact with them. If a Synth shuts down that's not what you want. But with regards to Shaun we're making a lot of assumptions. Like he does not age. His mental state does not change. Can he take care of himself? If we consider him "alive" then turning him off would violate his rights. I don't know if you saw the "Umbrella Academy" on Netflix. In this show one of the main characters uses her powers to control her baby girl which, when discovered by her spouse, was taken out of her care. Using any means of control that superceedes what we consider normal human control is deemed unacceptable. This would apply to Shaun as well. So turning him off would also be bad. If it is considered killing him then no I don't think so. If we can percieve him as The Doctor on Start Trek Voyager. Then no. The doctor is self aware and eventually considered alive even though he is a hologram. This is an interesting debate to be sure. He also gains the means to turn himself off and it is no longer allowed for crew members to turn him off.
  2. I'd first try to uninstall anything pip boy related. Then anything interface related. I also see some patches, don't know what they're doing. The UF4P is buggy and I would not use it at all.
  3. Those are all fair points. It all ends up with what we consider "real" or "alive". Whatever we can think up as a term that justifies real I'm sure we will be able to reproduce at some point. On the other hand, a Synth that does not reproduce is not a race? What is a race? A race, by the term is a group of individuals who share common traits and sometimes culture. This applies to Synths as well as humans. So by definition a Synth is part of the Synth race. Although the term race was originally used to distinguish between humans from a different group that among themselves shared common traits. Now we apply it to different things and even animals. And like I said, if Synth's could reproduce, would it then be alive? In essence the being of a synth will not change other than being able to reproduce. And is the means of reproduction important? If left to the institute, they would mimic human reproduction. In the end reproduction is essentially cell division. Which actually already exists in Synths as their exterior and most of the interior is all organic. And the organic material is alive. Synths go to the doctor and have to heal. Same as humans. We can at least determine that much is true. Wolverine has an adamantine skeleton. Is he not alive? We accept him to be alive. So with the above taken into account we end up discussing not the body, not the reproductive properties, but only the mind? Agreed? The BoS in earlier installments of fallout (1 and 2) were actually very similar to the ones in 4. The deviation was the BoS in FO3 under the command of Elder Lyons who were much more peaceful and accepting of others. This is why there were so many groups separating from the BoS in the CW. I myself do not oppose the idea of an artificial race. My only concern is how far it goes and whether or not we can handle that as a people. Humans aren't very civilized when we're afraid of something. On the other hand if we create something dangerous how do we go with that? I mean, in lots of media where this is explored humans create things that are far too strong, have no sense of right or wrong and cannot be controlled. Some of that is partly applicable to humans, but when you create something that basically cannot factor in every situation and has the means for grave distruction then we're on the wrong path. (The Geth in Mass Effect) Of course that does make for more interesting content. A different way would be the world of Bladerunner. This basically is similar with regards to Gen3 Synths, but here we have one that can actually get pregnant. The biological part actually evolved on its own. This adds to the debate I'm having now. I think that is a very similar debate. How did you guys feel about the androids in bladerunner? Or even the holo-girl?
  4. I think the debate just boils down to what you consider real. The fact that they are synthetic has you thinking they are not. This is actually more of a belief rather than a fact. It's a moral debate in terms of what we perceive as alive. Something constructed by humans cannot be real is also just a belief rather than a fact. If I could construct a baby which is an exact replica of a person who then grows up to be a full grown human being, indistinguishable from the original is it not real? Does the fact that I consstructed it make it not real or are there other factors. You will see that once you start analyzing the rationale behind your statements it's actually not that easy to denounce a synth as a living thing. You rely on what you know, or think you know and a belief on which you feel comfortable. This has less to do with reality, but more to do with perception. What you call creative programming vs self awareness is another example of your use of "creation" as a negative to determine what something is. I argue that the method of creation isn't subject to debate and therefore has no point in this conversation. A female having a baby is also creation. An egg in an incubation tube is also creation. How much unconventiality does it take for people to confuse produce with producing? Take Ghost in the Shell. A human brain in a cyberbody. Is that person not real? Or is the fact that the brain is real sufficient? If we could replicate the brain is that sufficient? How much conventiality does it take for it to be accepted. And I specifically use the word accepted. Because that is a subjective means to determine something and not an objective one. Does the lack of reproduction also mean that they are not real? Is a woman who had her uterus removed also not real? In the end this discussion ends up being far more phylosophical. Is the reaction and everything they do engineered to seem real? Does that actually matter? Is knowing that it isn't completely human preventing you from accepting it as real? What if you didn't know it? Take the example of the three travelers where one of the "friends" tells the others he's a Synth and then the others go hostile on him. They "were" friends. But knowing he's a synth stopped them. So not knowing accepts them as real. Knowing makes it a debate. If you found out one of your parents has been a synth (real life) for your entire life your whole life would turn upside down. You gain the emotions: fear, doubt, resentment, disgust, anger. Everything you gain when you enter a state of confusion when something turns out to be something you didn't expect. What if we all end up being synths. Would this change your view of the synth's in the game? It is always good to look at what's behind the reasoning.
  5. PA's that the player can use have a fusion core. An enemy wearing the PA has the fusion core equipped so it will not show in inventory. I think killing them destroys the PA and also the fusion core. If you don't put a fusion core in a settlers inventory or in a PA they cannot and will not enter it. If you find a settler has a PA in your settlement you had a core left in there by mistake. You should find the core in their inventory when they exit. Anyways, PA's are weaker than normal armor and have to many detrimental effects to be considered useful armor. Sneaking is not one of them. Vanilla game allows sneaking in PA just fine as long as you have the sneak perks. Not really sure how PA's armor protection works. I feel I take the same or more damage in a full T-60F PA with 1580 armor as I do when I have ~300 armor from clothes.
  6. We're confusing the self awareness part with being human part. I never said Synths are humans. They resemble humans. We have the natural tendency to recreate something we know. So something that looks like a being we are familiar with or even a human to make us at ease around it. That is the exact purpose of making something that resembles a human. The more human something becomes the more real we experience it and the more comfortable we are around it. Synths bleed, eat, sleep and have emotions and self awareness. They are indistinguishable from humans to the naked eye. Only killing it and disecting it reveals synth parts. One thing the game does well is build on the fear that forces people to treat everything strange with caution. Causing them to kill humans because they suspect they are synths. Killing something isn't linked to something being human. I can kill an ant and it has absolutely no resemblance to humans. Heck it isn't even self aware. But we all agree that it is alive. We've accepted this. Synths are a foreign entity and a natural human response is to fear and reject it. It is the same basis as rascism and discrimination. The response itself is not wrong. Your humanity and judgement ultimately defines if you can look beyond that first fear of difference and can go towards acceptance. Not accepting synths is actually not too different from not accepting other cultures or races. The basis is the same.
  7. I uninstalled the "no star", disabled AE and still have those decals showing up on the combat armor. I'm at a loss. thanks for the feedback! Just to be sure. I think once an object has spawned it will retain the changes made to it unless the actual references are gone. If the decal is in the game and was simply used by a mod to be able to be placed on other objects, like AE does then uninstalling AE wouldn't affect objects already spawned. It'd be best to travel to an area that hasn't reloaded to check or wait for a cell reset and check again. I have an issue btw where Edward at Cabbot house has the Desciples decal on his armor somehow... I never noticed if BoS had different decal assigned to it in my game though.
  8. The High-Res DLC, and face mods Like Looks Menu. I sometimes, very rarely get a bug that turns the face brown due to Looksmenu, but quick save and reload fixes that for me. This sounded permanent.
  9. Hi thanks for the in depth respond. I didn't completely copy the entries of the rifle. I set it to apply to the unarmed weapons. Are you saying it reduces the damage resistance on hit? So the first hit will always do damage vs 40 damage resistance and the second one will do more damage because of 30 damage resistance? This would mean my test is wrong and also makes the whole armor piercing part useless for me as well as I rarely need to hit enemies twice to kill them. I ended up removing the entry because I wanted to continue playing and added a bleeding effect to the attack. Which somehow is reduced by 50%. I thought bleeding damage was always ignoring defenses. Although maybe certain enemies have bleeding resistance. Or perhaps I used the wrong bleeding type. I tested it on the Yao Guai with 20 damage over 5 seconds which ended up doing 50 damage. Perk (current with bleed) https://imgur.com/L8JGnnt Bleed effect: https://imgur.com/D9lUvLI
  10. Ok, so just so that the intent of what I say isn't taken wrong. I disagree with the whole fascist thing. Yeah, Maxon has turned his faction of the brotherhood into a group of elitist hate mongers, that note, I totally agree with. Tho, me, on a personal level, I feel like the creation of synths or AI, or things along that route, are a crime against nature. To me, it's humanity trying to play god, and not respecting our place in the natural order of things. We have the ability to reproduce through our biology. That's good enough. Leave it at that. But, since this is pretty much all just fiction, and it is just a game... meh...it's story telling. Also, this is a game created for violence. In this game, we actively, and repeatedly, kill "people". (Pixel people!) In some cases, the game actually pushes us towards that end. There is no peaceful solution to getting rid of enemies that have surrendered, in the vanilla game. You either leave them alone until they go hostile again, or you kill a surrendered foe. This game has always had some very dark undertones. This version is actually quite a bit lesser than some of the previous releases. Or so my understanding goes. Most of my characters, are not fascists. They, like me, are equal opportunity ***holes. I'll be a **** to anybody, regardless of race, creed, religion, etc etc, IF I wanna be. Tho truth be told, that's only once they've pushed my buttons enough to bare the fangs. Normally I just try to get along with everybody, when I can. BUT...what I'm getting at, is that my characters... I play this game to shoot stuff. So yeah... my characters aren't fascists, they're homicidal. I'm not trying to say that I disagree with your point of view. I do respect that opinion. IRL, I'm very much about respecting life and the living creatures around us. Sentient, or nonsentient. But I'm just saying, it doesn't make ya a fascist. Well the thing is not really that the issue of whether the creation of Synths is wrong. You could disagree with the existence of Synths and still disagree with killing them. There was a time when a caucasian person and a negro person having children was considered wrong. However you view this is beside the fact that the result is a child that is self aware. Life. Killing it is murder. A Synth may not have been produced in the same way as a human, but is shares self awareness and many biological traits. This means that destroying it is also considered killing it. The fact of the matter is actually that the BoS play God just as much as the Institute. The institute creates life and decides what can and cannot be from a scientific perspective. The BoS decides which is allowed to exist. Enforicing their views with military power. This is fascism to the letter. I understand that people don't want to view themselfs as fascists when they play, because fascism is considered "evil". This doesn't prevent the BoS from being fascists. Fascists aren't mean or evil. They have a narrow view of what is right and wrong and enforce this onto their surroundings. The Germans did the same in WW2. Exactly the same thing. They just didn't have cool power armor. Now take another thing into consideration. What if the institute took it even further. Synth children or babies could exist and could also grow and age? This is possible with the technology they possess. What if they could make Synths able to reproduce? Would that change anything? To me being self aware equates to a living being. It doesn't matter how it was created or what it is made of. How I feel about the creation of the being also has no impact on the fact that I feel killing it is wrong. Of course I can roleplay differently, but if I look at the truths and facts I have then this is what it is. That doesn't change whether I go with the BoS or not. When I go with the BoS I roleplay that I don't care about life of other people and that anything that didn't exist before I woke up is bad and should be destroyed because it is part of the world that I hate. The world that took my son and turned everything to s#*!. It's a roleplay out of hate. I cannot roleplay the BoS as a good forgiving person which I am in real life. It goes against everything I stand for and hold dear. I must change that view in order for me to play as a fascist. What about the railroad then? In their effort to 'save' synths, the essentially kill one, create another, and save that one. The Railroad is also wrong. They are killing Synths but are doing so under the guise of good intentions. They are morons.
  11. Could be, but that is kind of counter intuitive to have two types of sustain. Nature dicates that one of them prevails and the other is removed. So if ghouls can live off of radiation alone then they don't need food and vice versa.
  12. I think Railroad quests are inconsequential. I've done those all including going to the institute and such and still ended with the minutemen with all factions alive. Although I did have to get kicked out of the institute to do it.
  13. Try to remove ENB completely inlcuding the mods that come with it and see what happens.
  14. I'm not understanding the term permadeath with relation to "they pick up where the vanilla story left off with their first character". All you do is a level reset. That's not permadeath. Permadeath would mean you delete the save and start over. For real.
  15. Actually "body" doesn't remove clothes. I got that wrong. SLM removed headwear tho. Don't remember if the clothes option also CTD's on a vanilla game. I've been using CBBE since forever.
  16. Does this only happen with Fallout 4 or also other games? This feels like the installation isn't properly completed. Do you use mods?
  17. Nobody mentioned that you cannot actually put a child and parent into the same freeze pods due to different physiology. That really bothered me. Also the fact that Nate/Nora doesn't let go of the child after being defrosted. That makes no sense. His cognitive functions should be close to 0 when waking up, same for the PC. Waking up after being 200 years on ice and then start running around... yea. BS. It's all complete BS. Like what I said on the Skyrim forums years and years ago. 99% of the people exiting the Vault would die within minutes by being killed by a Raider. Because no one and absolutely no one (unless you're a frikking insane mass murdering psychopath) would fire the first bullet. Who would ever assume that, coming form a peaceful time where people walk on the streets without weapons you'd get shot 10 feet away from where you first lived. We only do this because the NPC is marked "Raider" and has a red bar, meaning "enemy". Let alone the fact that even before entering the Vault people are standing there LOOKING at a nuclear explosion, without any eye damage. Immersion is a mumbo jumbo term people use so they can feel more comfortable with playing the game. It doesn't equate to common sense, unless you have little of that of course. And common sense doesn't include understanding weapons as a trained individual does. So different weapon handling, reloads and aiming mods that are called "immersive" have nothing to do with common sense, but actual specific knowledge that only a few people have. Being immersed also has nothing to do with realism. You can be completely immersed in a sci fi game with nothing to do with realism.
  18. Synts minds can be placed in new bodies as far as I'm aware so the body has no real issue. Also, for reasoning. Unless you go for the fascist route with the BoS you'd accept that any creature that has self awareness is alive and therefore the synth is alive and therefore it would be murder to kill it. Granted the premise is not really fleshed out as well as could be as in for instance ghost in the shell and similar productions, but the facts are there. The synths are self aware. Killing it would make you a murderer and you'd have to role play a 100% fascist to justify this. So no, you shouldn't always kill synth Shaun.
  19. I think I saw this in an MxR vid once, sorry can't help with the name.
  20. If that makes the game more real to you, then by all means make a mod that does that. Shouldn't be too hard. At any rate the whole game is unrealistic. Even with all the "immersion" bs mods that are on the nexus the game has nothing and absolutely nothing to do with realism.
  21. This would be true if Nora didn't trust Nate. I mean you could always roleplay that Nate is a terrible father and make that work.
  22. All I'm saying is that in fixed spawns they bug out. I have no idea what type of spawn it is or if is actually a new or existing actor. I can only tell you which spawns in the game it affects and that is all the fixed spawns in fixed locations in the game. You then stated that the bug is impossible for these type of actors. But I HAVE the bug and so do others. I'm confused at what you're trying to say.
  23. So I've been testing. Reason is that the paralyze effect on the Iron Fists perk level 5 breaks your game. I replaced the paralyze effect with % ignore armor as per the Rifleman perk. Set it to 25% and went testing in game. Results? I do the same damage with and without the effect. I tested on a Yao Guai with 350hp and 40 armor and base knuckles (@405 damage) The results is I do 134 damage. Somehow. Now adding or removing damage ignoring effects has no effect. With or without I do 134 damage on this hit. Although perhaps this also means the damage numbers in the pip boy are incorrect. The damage shows as 270 when I load the game, but when I re-equip the item is becomes 405 damage. At any rate. The "Mod Target Damage Resistance" special effect does absolutely nothing. Ugh. This makes me wonder. Does the rifleman perk actually do anything with regards to ignoring armor? Do armor piercing effects on weapons actually do anything?
