  1. Back when I used to use CMs as "fluff" for my houses I never had any issues with them leaving the cell I left them in. Most times if I was leaving them in one of my houses I'd tell them to Stay here. If I was leaving them in some common area (like an Inn) I'd give them the Breakup treatment. Either way they'd stay put. I did leave a few of the essential CMs along the roadways with a Breakup. As they executed their packages (looking for somewhere to sleep or sit to eat) they'd wind up wandering from where I'd left them. Made it kind of interesting to see where they'd wind up next time your trails crossed. Ike's Ryan seems to be the exception that proves the rule. Maybe Ike performed some sort of Satanic rites at his conception ... most definitely not your normal CM that one.
  2. In that case pay attention to your pathgridding (so they don't try to walk over things and make a mess ... all companions excel at that). When you are cluttering the more things that are statics the less mess companions can make.
  3. I don't create followers, but the NPCs I add to the game don't cross cell boundaries (i.e from one interior cell to an adjoining interior cell) unless I use the console to make them follow. Haven't ever left one alone long enough in an exterior cell to say whether or not they'll cross exterior cell boundaries on their own or not. I generally use "current location" packages these days so I can move them to whichever house I want them in without any rejigging in the CS (and I believe you'll want all your follower types to have default packages that are current location rather than editor location or specific reference location packages). Were you thinking of using CMs or creating your own follower packages/scripts?
  4. Nothing as glamorous as that ... remember I'm an old retired guy. I have a full time job in the summer killing bugs such as mosquitoes, deer flies and stable flies along the North Channel of Lake Huron. I have internet access when I'm tied up at the marina, but even then there's so many things to do and so little time (four months of bliss followed by 8 months of waiting for the next 4 months of bliss ... such is the life of a retired old fart who also happens to be a sailor).
  5. Don't worry Lup ... I'm the :ninja: ... by the time Ike finds it the pages won't open. I'll only have access to my gaming computer for a couple more months then I'm off to the boat (not trying to put time pressure on you though ... modding takes as long as it takes).
  6. Careful Lup ... you're way out on the thin ice with the B & C comment (and after the ceremony there are sharks living 24/7 under that ice ... wanna see any of their bite marks??).
  7. I'm a Win XP 32 bit dinosaur, so I'll be of limited utility on any step by step how to's I'm afraid. I'm also not a "sound guy", and as such I have extremely limited experience with CODECs etc (but I do know that plenty of "free" things try to load you up with as much crap as they can). I'd go through Add/Remove Programs and look for an uninstall option for anything that looks, smells or feels like a CODEC, but I realize that's easier for me to say than for you to do. I build and maintain my own machines, never use automatic updates for anything and know what and why for everything installed on any machine I've built. I have an old HP laptop (with that POS OS named Vista). Between HP loading it down with 2 tons of unnecessary crapware and Vista it is not good for much beyond checking email and a little web surfing (and that's after I used a voodoo witch doctor type cleansing on it ... uninstalled or turned off everything I could find not OS related). I wouldn't even think of playing anything but Solitaire on it (and I don't play Solitaire). That doesn't help you in your situation. I believe the Infra Red device thing was related to getting the Oblivion command prompt console to work, so I doubt it'll have anything to contribute to this. Beyond uninstalling stuff from Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs I'm afraid that's about all I can think of. You can also start going through everything that is installed using Windows Explorer and uninstall using that program's installer, if any is there, but you need to know what's required by your machine and what's not. Before you start down that path I'd make sure I knew how to use the OS backup (you did make one of those when you first started the laptop ... right?? ... I know laptops never come with the Windows disks).
  8. A couple of things I noticed when using this How to Interpret a DXDIAG Report page to filter through that report ... Check on this page to see if it offers a more recent version of the Nightmare2013 utility (it says version 3.0 on that page). Near the end of the how to interpret page is a post by Lee Carre with a sort of step by step you could try (why do some people never locate the Shift key on their keyboard ... do they never read what they post themselves?? /rant) ... here's what it says: Lee Carre: start menu, settings, control panelopened "sounds and audio devices"went to the "hardware" tab and selected "audio codecs" (about half way down the list)clicked "properties" at the bottom of the tabon the "audio codecs properties" window, went to the "properties" tabon the "properties" tab a list of codecs was displayed (i assume all the ones i have installed, i can list them here if requested)i found one that looked most like an mp3 codec (it's called "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec") and selected it (so it was highlighted)i clicked the "properties" button at the bottom of the tabin the window for the properties of the codec (hope you're following all these "properties" windows - this one has options to use/not use the codec and to change the priority) i changed the priority to "1", then clicked "OK"now, a strange thing windows seems to do, that i discovered from past experience, is when you change the priority of a codec, for some reason, it becomes disabled (the "don't use the audio codec" option is selected), so, make sure the "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec" is selected, and click "properties" again to re-open the options boxin the codec properties box (again), leave the priority at "1" and select "use this audio codec"click "OK" againclick "OK" for "audio codecs properties"and "OK" for "sounds and audio devices once that was done i didn't need to restart for morrowind to play music,, character voices, and sounds etc., however, the experience of other users may be different I'm not sure if that will be helpful or harmful. I've also seen reports of problems with HP machines that were related to having an infrared device enabled ... check in Control Panel and see if you have such a device/device driver and try disabling it. Can't say for certain what the IR problem was related to ... seems to me it was something that Bben46 (one of the site moderators) always brought up. He has some links listed in his signature you could try for more info (try here). - Edit - From what I see Googling your LAV Filters I'd say absolutely ... one of the first things I'd disable during troubleshooting.
  9. Shouldn't ... if it did it would be widely reported. The only thing I recall hearing about that affects the game is codecs. Not sure if in your research into the problem you saw any of the tips in TweakGuide's Oblivion Tweak Guide (see page 7 Audio section down near the bottom of that page). Looking on the HP site it appears that no new drivers have been released for that audio chipset in a couple of years. Looks like the latest is version 6.10.6491.0 ... is that the version you have?
  10. Yes Ike ... I've always thought Cethlenn was cute with her hair however she wanted it. He did get a reaction didn't he ... and isn't anger and willingness to kill sort of emotion related (though probably not the reaction or emotions Ryan was aiming for), Recall way back he tried to impress Countess Narina Carvain (to no avail). He should get me to hook him up ... my girls are always willing and compliant (and seldom overdressed). - Edit - Yes Lup, you've been a building machine in my absence. Looking good! - Edit 2 - And sleep well Ike ... this is starting to take on a Walton's Mountainesqueness isn't it ... just waiting for the "Night Mary Ellen ...night John Boy".
  11. Yes that's what I meant about slider position ... just looking for the obvious. What happens if you change to bDSoundHWAcceleration=0 (looks to me like you just have an onboard sound chipset, maybe it's not capable of HW acceleration).
  12. I saw the one where Ryan was toying with Phil's emotions ... very Ryanesque.
  13. LOL ... good thing the Nascar race kept me preoccupied. Considering my extensive knowledge of house building (it is right at the geometric center of the triangle defined by the points zero, zilch and nil) we could be enjoying a triple facepalm (or is that me to the right in that picture Ike). - Edit - Chicken
  14. What do you have in Oblivion.ini for bDSoundHWAcceleration and fMainMenuMusicVolume, and what slider position are you using for Music and Master in the Options menu?
  15. Having the room cluttered will also allow you to assess the FPS impact of your lighting on all those objects.
  16. Turn on the option to show the light radius in the CS (or CSE) and make sure your lights don't overlap. You can also turn off flicker and shadows to help lessen their FPS impact. - Edit - If you want "the look" of lots of lights without the problems lots of lights bring use some of the fake lights in the place of their real lights equivalent.
  17. If NXM actually means Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) be prepared to make lots more of these "Help" type posts. The only way NMM makes an acceptable choice for Oblivion is if you are an expert mod installer (and by that I'm talking about manually installing all and any mods) so you can repackage mods designed for the mod installer of their day (i.e. OBMM and Wrye Bash's BAIN) in a mannner that NMM can understand. Neither NMM or MO make good choices for Oblivion.
  18. If I was creating mannequins out of people I'm certain that my uncle Fred wouldn't hold up his hand and say "Oh .. oh ... pick me!!" (and if I did the grandkids wouldn't want to be seen by me).
  19. Actually the BOSS/Wrye Bash combo also takes care of the BSA dates as well as BSA Redirection.
  20. That's quite the fur & iron collection.
  21. For the Steam version of the game you also need to reset the BSA dates back to original (Steam changed all the dates, thus breaking archive invalidation for all Steam users). You can either use Oblivion Mod Manager (Utilities -> Archive Invalidation -> BSA Redirection -> click on Reset BSA Timestamps -> click on Update Now) or a file date changing utility like File Date Changer 1.61 (change the year to 2006).
  22. But I consider that stuff just learning to use what the bright guys brought to the table. Perhaps the closest I have ever come to anything original is that kludge I came up with for moving the persistent reference door ... and I still maintain, that is just a working guy's fix, not far from the baler twine and tape fixes a poor farmer might make to get the broken tractor back to the barn.
  23. Truth be known Lup, not one bit of what I know about any of this modding stuff came from my own head ... smarter folks than I figured it out and I'm just the lucky guy who read what they had written down.
  24. A thought I just had ... have a look at the Reznod scripts vs the Skin-Toned scripts and see how Balakirev did it.
