  1. Usually not, no. However, a lot of ruins dungeon doors will relock, but you usually won't have a key for these anyway, so you have to keep picking them each time. I guess I can see why someone might want to keep keys if they plan to revisit places repeatedly. I just stuff them all into a little box back at home where they're available if needed, but out of my way when not needed. A few bags of holding would sure be handy instead, though.
  2. CLERIC! THAT's what's been missing all this time. I knew there was something missing along the lines of character archtypes, and now I see it. There are no Cleric player Character Options. In Morrowind, of course, you could be a Lay Cleric for either the Nine or the Tribunal, but there is no such option in Oblivion for that sort of thing. Hmm... I guess they must have decided there wasn't going to be enough room for that, since they already had to cut out a few quests just to get the game to fit on a single disc. Bummer. In D&D I had a lot of fun playing clerics. They can be pretty fun. *sigh* Ah, good old Brother Osgood... a fire & brimstone holy warrior if ever there was one.. SO funny.
  3. I seem to recall that the standard time is one second of realtime =30 seconds of gametime. 2 real seconds would be one minute, so one game hour would be 120 real seconds, so 24 game hours would be 48 real minutes, or 2880 seconds.
  4. Ha. All this time and I never noticed the Gra/Gro thing. Nice to know. As for argonian names, I've also noticed that many of them aren't their real names, but Cyrodiilic corruptions of them created because humans can't pronounce the real ones. Hauls-ropes-faster, for example, complains about this if you talk to him. Conversely, Witsidutsi's name is pronounceable, but it certainly doesn't seem to mean anything descriptive.
  5. Oooohh, I like these. They sound really hard to do, but they'd be worth it.
  6. Yeah, really. Why are you carrying around so many keys you'll probably never use anyway?
  7. I'm sure it would be. I guess I wasn't feeling particularly civil at the time. I was just frustrated and bewildered that someone who could make such a mod could also make such a mistake, kinda like a brain surgeon sneezing inside someone's skull, and then send it out without even checking it. Thus, this thread, bringing such problems to light in the hope that others will be reminded to be more careful. The advice that razorpony gave about saving/reloading alone should save a lot of mods. Again, I don't really intend to offend.
  8. I hate the Yellow Team Champion the most, followed by Glarthir. I always try to run away from Glarthir, but the little weasel eventually catches me. As payback I don't do his stupid quest, and then I make it worse by casting a custom buffing spell on him that lets him fight 7 or 8 guards at once, and then I dispel it once he's surrounded.
  9. Well, yes, that much is plain, but that's not quite what I meant. Totally my bad on this one, since I should have just said what I really meant in the first place, which was: If you are making a mod for Vilverin, then leave Bravil alone! How hard is that? There was no reason whatsoever to mess around with Gilgonderin's dialog tree when he had utterly nothing to do with the mod of Vilverin. That was just sloppy in the extreme. I wish I was logged in on the nexxus when I downloaded that crappy mod so it would let me rate it now and give it a ONE. GRRRR!!!!! I guess what I really mean, more to the point, is "how do modders keep making such stupid mistakes?" This isn't a case of two mods being incompatible. It's a case of one otherwise good mod having something very wrong with it, apparently caused by a failed attempt to do more than it was supposed to, and the modder just giving up and then leaving the broken fragment in place instead of scrapping and starting again clean. My apologies if I offended anyone, but I spent over two hours trying to figure out what broke my game only to find it was something completely pointless and stupid. I'm still mad.
  10. I tried a mod which adds a new little wing inside Vilverin, and now the game crashes if I try to talk to Gilgonderin at Silverhome-on-the-Water in Bravil. Yes, I'm sure, as it took me quite a long time to isolate. __BLANK__ is the mod. ( the name is no longer needed since the problem has been found ) How does stuff like this happen, anyway? Removing the mod lets me talk to Gilgonderin now, BUT I still have one other huge Bravil problem, namely, that Lucien Lachance doesn't show up when I whack Ungolim, and I'm just frozen in place. I've tried and tried to fix this, but so far with no luck. EDIT: ok, I looked that one up, and it' a common bug. I'll try the fix recommended. EDIT TWO: It worked. Yay!
  11. chocobo, that idea is fantastic. Instead of a ghost, though, I'd like to see the spirit of Shinji possess the Blue team Gladiator who WAS your friend up until now, and let that gladiator have some serious stats and skill. Yeah, that makes more sense. In his grief, he would probably welcome a chance at passive revenge like letting Shinji borrow his flesh. He was always a bit of a loose end, anyway. YES! I LOVE this idea! Can somebody make it happen?
  12. Just a quick note here to say that I tried this mod that vagrant made, and it ROCKS! The matron looks much better and it one tough customer. You'll love it, and it's not as big a download as you might think, so GET IT! You won't be sorry.
  13. The good news- She looks fantastic and is really tough to fight. Awesome job! The bad news- I had to start a new game to see her. The message saying to go back again never came in my current game. I went anyway, but she wasn't to be found. This is only a minor thing, though, and more than made up for by the way she turned out when I did find her. Thanks again for this! Note: maybe the message to go back to dive rock isn't supposed to come for a fairly long time? That would explain everything, I suppose.
  14. I just finished downloading this, and I'm gonna give it a try right now. I'm 22nd level, so this oughta hurt. Thanks! You are simply too awesome!
  15. Ah, good to know. I predict that name will be appearing in a few mods in the near future. Mede. Good call on Uriel's other sons. They should probably have kids by now, right? Of course, if one did, then that would probably be fairly common knowledge, I would think. Hmmm... how strange.
  16. Neat idea. I always thought it would be nice if we could teleport between Ayleid ruins in the way we could between old strongholds in morrowind. It seems to me that each city had enemies and allies, and would have telepads for rapid transport between a few select allied cities, but not all. That way we could find the index keys and zip around Cyrodiil from ruin to ruin.
  17. HA! Now that's pretty funny. Now all we need is a CPR mod...
  18. Now THERE'S a neat idea for a mod-- a serial killer on the loose is going around whacking various NPC's, and it's not YOU for a change! Can you stop him in time before your game gets pretty lonely?
  19. Usually things just hit me when I'm playing. I get ideas like, Hmmm... that's a lot of wasted space... , or Man, there's gotta be a better way to... or What? That's it? Where's the beef? or whatever. Most of my ideas are born from frustration or annoyance, I suppose.
  20. Kingcrest Cavern, north of Cheydinhal, is worth visiting if only for one reason: It contains a very unique landscape found nowhere else in the game, and a weird one at that. You can also meet some ( friendly! ) Camonna Tong skooma smugglers bringing in their dope for the Orum gang. This is a neat thread. I've already learned something.
  21. Ha! Funny you should ask. Two days ago I downloaded 31 mods. I've been trying them out ever since, and most of them work, I'm happy to say. ( and some most assuredly do NOT. GRRR! Why can't some modders ever seem to remember to mention that their mod needs some other mod to work? ) Anyway, I picked up three more this morning, and it looks like I'll be at it for the next few hours. By the way, a treetop city sounds mighty cool. A Bosmer town, I presume?
  22. Actually, no, not everybody can make these upgrades. I'm one of them. If I had a broadband connection I maybe could, but my 56k dialup simply makes it impossible. This is exactly what I mean. So many people seem to forget that a lot of us still don't have access to the good stuff. Thanks for these links, though! They're very nice. Still, if anyone knows how to alter the soulgems, that would be great. Give a man a fish vs teach him to fish, you know?
  23. Me likey! Modifying gauntlets into gloves and making them enchantable would be great. heh, heh.. Falanu Hlaalu does indeed have some great, and so far wasted, potential.
  24. This is an odd sort of thread. In it, we can discuss the sorts of things we need and want in mods instead of discussing new epic mods we want to see. What do I mean? Well, there are oodles of threads here from people requesting that a team gets assembled to bring some epic new storyline of the week to life. There are also threads complaining that there doesn't seem to be much modding going on lately. I personally think that the two are related, but that's yet another thread. What I'm proposing here is that we discuss the little mods or features that we want to see. Maybe someone can make these little things, and maybe this thread can survive awhile and not get lost in the shuffle the way individual threads about the little things usually do. With any luck, we might get better results or at least see some of these things wind up in the bigger mods. Don't post ideas here about some big new epic questline. Those go in their own threads as usual. Instead, make this a thread for all those "... wouldn't it be great if there was a better way to...' and ".. how come there's no_____..." and "...what if?" type stuff. It would also be great if it wasn't too vague, like "how about some new armor?" or too specific like "How about some headgear like that rogue trader wore in episode 23 of that obscure anime show that nobody watches?" Instead, simpler things with broader appeal like "How about some easier-to-read signposts?" or "can somebody make a frog garden statue that spits water out of it's mouth?" or "I sure wish there was a spell that..." might be better for this thread. We can also discuss how certain things might be accomplished. For example, if someone asks, "is there a way to make a goblin talk?" we can try to figure it out amongst ourselves. I for one think it would be very cool to have a talking goblin mod or modder's resource for use in all sorts of mods, like something to do with Goblin Jim's cave, for example. Discussions like these might open the door to all sorts of discoveries and new mods we never dreamed possible. I can recall one such discussion a couple of years ago which led to the creation of the first oblivion fishtank! Yes, this whole section of requested mods is supposed to do all of this, but it doesn't do it as well as it should sometimes, does it? I don't know if this thread would help much at all with that, but maybe it's worth a shot. Or not. I dunno. I just think that maybe by stuffing a lot of little things in one very active thread, that thread won't disappear like most in just a few days, and maybe we'll see some fun stuff happen when more of the right people get a chance to notice it. Okay, I'll start. First of all, I'm a lame wannabee modder who barely knows his way around half the CS, and about all I've been able to do so far is make stupid little cheat mods. It's cute, I suppose, but I'd like to learn more, even if all I ever wind up doing is making much better cheat mods. LOL! I stand in awe of the real modders here who routinely crank out some truly amazing works. maybe some of them will take pity on me and lend their aid to these: -- I have no trouble making new, stronger Sigil Stones, but one thing I've never been able to figure out is how to increase the power of soulgems. A buddy of mine once made me a quick little mod in under ten minutes which made humanoid souls trapped in black gems worth a whole lot more points than normal. Does anyone know how to DO that? I can't find it anywhere in the CS. -- You know those historic marker signs you see around the countryside? I think it would be cool to have some signs like those scattered around Cyrodiil, marking the spots of interesting things which happened, with text either readable directly or at least in a pop-up window like any other book. For example, a nice sign at the Temple of the One could be made to appear, after the main quest was finished, ( another thing I wonder how to do ) which explains the battle between martin (as Akatosh's avatar) and Mehrunes Dagon. I can make the text no problem, and place the signs, but I don't know how to make the signs. Can somebody make a resource for these? -- Speaking of making things appear at different stages, how could we make a mod that lets Cropsford continue to grow over time until it became about the size of Blankenmarch, complete with lots of little crop plots? ( and yet another player home, maybe? ) I guess I'll stop there, but I will ask one last thing, and it's a doozy: A lot of players can't patch their games or download all the latest must-have supermods, and as such they very often find themselves unable to use a lot of really great mods they find which depend on these other things. One thing that I would really love to see are more mods that vanilla players ( no OOO, FCOM, or even Shivering isles ) can use and enjoy. Thanks! Okay, your turn! What actually DOABLE things would you like to see that won't require six months and a 30 man team to make?
