  1. You can get Elsweyr the deserts of Anequina here: http://www.tesnexus....le.php?id=36303

Is that the same as Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina?

I believe the one that mccrab linked to replaces the one you linked to. I'm not the uploader though, so you'd have to ask him/her to be for certain. I can tell you though that the one mccrab linked to is the most up to date version as of a month ago, and from my understanding, the mod will no longer be updated.

  2. Well what are good partner mods to use besides CM? And exactly what mod prevents them from turning on you from friendly fire? :(

I can't recommend any companions besides creatures as I don't use any, so what I'm saying below applies to creatures and some of it possibly to NPC companions, but I don't know for sure. For creature companions I use my mods and for reasons of my own they are hosted on Planet Elder Scrolls and TES Alliance under the same user name.

However, if you want companions with menus to tell them what to do, you won't find them with my companions. They do well enough with their AI packages and script and no menus for what I personally need. They will sneak when you do and are activated to Follow and Wait. Their AI takes care of the rest.

As far as friendly fire it's tied in with their aggression and confidence. You would need restrict their aggression to 10 or less to avoid this, but that won't work on it's own as they will tolerate a certain number of hits then attack you. Also, if their aggression is too low they may fail to fight and I've found 10 to be the magic number.

You also need to make sure their Personality is less than 20 and preferably 10 otherwise you also get the non fighting issue which is a real pain if you're using FCOM or any other overhaul with bigger and badder enemies.

As I said in my post above yours, you need to make them Player Owned and/or add a line to the companions script to tell them to ignore friendly fire to make it work properly.

Edited for spelling despite the spell checker... :ermm:

Some really great info here Maigrets! Thank you. I will definately check this out. It maybe that I had the aggression and personality set too high for the pet.

Don't worry about the notes about editting. I have to edit nearly all my posts!

  3. I agree. Unless properly scripted, your companions will also lose disposition and/or squeal on you if you commit a crime, which is VERY irritating if you're a thief or assassin character.

Pets behave themselves. They still love you and remain faithful, even if you are a criminal!

Though for the life of me I can't figure out how to make my own creature comps, I still don't know how to get them to ignore friendly fire so they don't go hostile on you if you strike them by accident.

I use a mod to help control that. It makes so that you can hit them multiple times without them turning on you. I can't remember the name of it though. I'll look it up when I get home. There's actually a couple of them. I think the one I use is a 5-hitter. But I remember seeing one that had up to 20 hits.

  4. Now that sounded like a smart solution but how would I do that? The only thing that is left visible are some gold and silver rings from the hairpins and they use the same texture as the earrings so I can't set a different path for them. You should have a look and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Modifying the texture is the easiest way to remove an unwanted part (take Apachii's Goddess Store, for example) but it'll also decreases the quality of that texture. I always end up with a purplish-green highlight when saving dark textures for the 2nd time. I suggest getting Blender to remove it. I recommend LHammonds' compiled version; no more hassle of looking around.

If blender failed you, I can send you the modified earrings-only version. But it's better if you tried yourself.

^ This really would be the better solution. Blender can edit anything that Nifscope can't.

  5. Not to sound flippant, but just don't use companions :)

Seriously. This is one of the reasons I gave up on companions. They have so many annoying (and sometimes dangerous) habits that it makes them more trouble than they're worth.

That said, what you suggest sounds like a solution that should be built into all companion mods by decree of the Mod God. If a companion that's supposed to be with you strays more than "x" feet away then it immediately returns to you, breaking off all activity it thought it was supposed to be doing. This would a go long in making companions more acceptable for me. Frankly, when I give a companion a "follow me" command, I expect that to be obeyed to the letter until such time as I give the companion a different command. Sadly, I have yet to see a companion mod where this seems to be strictly enforced.

Companions are too much fun :D Especially my pet dragon. Unfortunatley, he likes to take off after enemies and stometimes disturbs a nest of hornets!

  6. You can use your CM Partners ring to teleport the wayward partners away from combat and back to your position. You can probably use CM partners in-game dialog topics to lower aggression enough that your partners will only fight back if struck first.

Beyond that, you could create a custom spell to add to your companion mod that used the StopCombat command on the specific companion the spell was tailored for. But in some cases, I imagine that after stopping combat, your partner would behold the enemy and rush off to do battle straightway.

Well actually, I dont use CM, that was just an example since it's the most popular. But a script sounds like a good idea. Perhaps having it trigger the StopCombat after reaching a certain distance to the PC.

Hmm, I'll have to think about that some more then.

    Thanks for the response.

  7. After a few hours longer searching, I found it. Oblivion Tournament.

Yep that's it. I had it written down on my list to test, but couldn't recall it. I was going to look it up tonight and reply to you. Good searching.

  8. I don't know about it specifically but if it is a "race" mod, your savegame will become dependent on any custom race you select. And if you uninstall that race mod, your savegame will not be able to load...this is par for any custom race mod.

There are ways to get around it by using utilities to "lift" your character's face from one savegame to another. You could also use the console command to bring up the "showrace" menu to pick a standard race that does not depend on the mod...however, your stats will become messed up.

    LHammonds

Sort of like what's in Wyre Bash?

  9. A little more info - the bogus registry cleaner is called 'Disk Cleaner'. the screen that pops up looks like a legitimate cleaning prog. it shows it checking for various problems such as bad sectors, viruses  bad registry entries etc. then within seconds it shows a bogus report that says it found serious problems and you need to download the full version - for a fee. Then starts locking up your programs, with bogus problem reports.

The young lady who uses the computer (11 years old) actually remembered where she got it - it was from a facebook message supposedly from a known friend - that said something like 'Hey (her user name) you gotta see this its really cool.' Then gave a link to click on which proceeded to download the virus. When the computer started showing the pop up and locking her programs She knew enough to realize she had been tagged by a virus and shut the computer down to limit damage.

But, typically those kind of virus grab your address book before they start causing problems - so it's likely all of her facebook friends will get the same garbage. :verymad:

These scum are relying on the natural trustfulness of children to spread their trash. When caught that should automatically add at least another 10 years to whatever sentence they get.

lol, like I said before, gimme the live bullet! I'll be glad to use it! :verymad:

I use several. The most effective for the bogus registry cleaner scanner was called SuperAntiSpyware. I used both that one and MalwareBytes manual scan, then after it was cleaned, I ran the Macafee that was already on the computer.

The other one the MalwareBytes worked, and when I scanned with the SuperAntiSpyware it found nothing beyond a few standard spyware apps. That one had Avira as its antivirus, and after using the other two, it found nothing either.

Then, after rebooting, I ran ccleaner to finish taking out the trash.on both of them.

I've been just using the Windows disk cleaner for that, but I've been hearing a lot of postive stuff about ccleaner, like its a bit more thorough than the Windows provided cleaner. I might have to start using that. :D

  10. I think we should have the death penalty for the jerk who came up with that idea. I would be willing to pull the switch on them myself.

I currently have 2 laptops from separate family members on my bench running a full scan to get rid of two separate viruses (viri?) of this type. One claims to be a registry cleaner that you 'need' to pay for, but actually keeps locking up the computer with bogus claims like - 'Out of memory error on attempt to scan' And shutting the computer down if a real AV program is run. The other is the standard bogus AV.

One, the standard bogus AV is a 15 year old who downloads a lot from torrent sites. :whistling:

The other is used by an 11 year old girl who only goes to a few 'approved' game sites. She probably picked up the virus from an advertisement on one of them.

You know how they used to execute in the old military films? 5 to 10 gunmen line up and fire blanks except for one with the real bullet and no one knew which they had so they wouldn't feel gility? I'd volunteer shoot the live bullet!

What type of scanner are you using Ben? I always thought those type of virus are the type that you'd have to do a complete format/reinstall of the harddrive and OS.

And LOL at your avatar CommanderCrazy!

  11. WEll I know I am getting off topic here since I have not released anything for THIS game, but as a long time modder for other games, let me tell you this:

If you are not comfortable with what other people do with your stuff., do not release it, period. Because in the end, everything you create rightfully belongs to the original owner/creator of the game and not to you. So it is not "yours" to begin with. And once you upload it ANYWHERE, you opened Pandora's box and sign away any right or say you had in the matter. Even your "terms of use" are nothing more than a polite request to respect your wishes, but that's it. People can be cruel when they want to get their hands on something and a lot of them do not respect what you had in mind at all. That's how it goes, deal with it or don't release stuff.

I know I am harsh now, but it is a lesson I had to learn years ago. The way users/players respect the wishes of the original creator (or not) can make or break a community, but in the end you have no say in the matter.

I vehemently disagree with this... somewhat. Yes, the materials could potentially be the original game/utility creator's. But the idea behind the mod is still the author's, which is why authors are given the right to take down their mods from public if they choose to. There's a little more to the rules of a mod's use than just polite respect. It would also depend on what's being done. You can't for example take a mod posted here on the Nexus, repackage it and claim it for your own. What you said is sort of like saying that a software pirate has a right to steal software that a company explicitly states against it. Are the laws going to stop them? No. Unfortunately, so goes the same of modders.

However, this direction is going way off track and further discussion of this should probably go into a separate thread. :whistling:

OT: Anyone have any luck finding that "stop companions from taking off" mod yet? Might've been a part of a feature rather than a separate mod.

  12. I was about to download a mod when I got one of those "your system is infected, perform a virus scan now and get protected" type hijackers that force you to scan using their bogus scanners. Surprised the heck out of me too because I have a pretty tight security system in my PC now.

Unfortunately, I don't know which advertisement it was because I had my flash player turned off.

Not much of report, but thought I'd at least give you a heads up, Dark and staff.

  13. I've discovered this pic while searching for a mod that would bring Drizzt's Armor to onlivion, but I cant' seem to find the mod that has this armor. Does anyone know where caI fid this armor ??

    PIC: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t243/Saeunn_2007/Drizztstance.jpg

    thanks

hmm, that almost like Andragorn Armory: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26490

But the waist/groin is different, much shorter. Almsot looks like the edit I made for Stealth Wars.

  14. Yeppers, I just did a mod clean up of my list this weekend and thinking about it, I have many mods and patches like that too. Readmes named Readme doesn't bother me, but the mods being named the way in the examples David list is plain annoying. I always keep a copy of my uninstalled mods in a separate file and I had to look into it several times to figure out what a mod was.
  15. Gecko... link? :)

TES4edit is a good utility for that as well.

Just beware of what you merge. Somethings are not meant to be merged. UL mods are one of them, but from what I understand the UL patche are fine.
