Vortex Downloads a duplicate 0 KB file

Some downloads in Vortex have a duplicate file shown alongside. They're 0 B in file size and appear in the "Never Installed" section of mods tab as well. In the mods tab they show no version info, category etc.

Happens on SSE and Fallout 4. Both games are on drive F, and mods are staged on the same drive in both cases.

I'm on latest Vortex version as of now. (1.4.14)

Windows 10 Pro 21H1

 

This doesn't really affect with modding other than just being an annoyance. I'm just curios to know why this happens.

i see this frequently. i have no explanation for it. what i do is go to the downloads tab and delete it from there which removes the redundant file from the mods tab as well.

i'd like to try to understand why this happens, for the life of me, i can't figure it out.

Same here. I think it is a minor bug, maybe on the server side.

I just downloaded a bunch yesterday for Skyrim SE and didn't get duplicates.

I wonder if this has to do with some mod pages, then when you click on "Download with Manager" will open up a pop-up with a download button, that vortex is already starting to download and the person is also hitting the download button, causing two downloads?

I'm using 1.4.11, so maybe that problem hasn't been introduced yet?

Thank you all for your responses. It seems like nobody is sure why this is happening.

I have some "0 kb" files downloaded last year, way before 1.4.11 which came in April.

 

Like I said I'm just curios why this happens, that's all XD.

If you are having this problem please send feedback via the app and include your state/log file. I've never had this happen so I don't really know how I'd go about replicating it.

replicating is easy - just download files. it will occur sooner or later.

next time i pull down a file i'll upload some data for you.

I've already done that. I'm waiting for a reply now. I came here just in case to see if anyone knows anything.

As for replicating, it happens randomly.

I appreciate that, but my point is, I've downloaded ~600 mods for Skyrim SE and not seen that happen once. I suspect there might be some connection shenanigans going on somewhere which is confusing Vortex.

as soon as it occurs again, i'll send over the diagnostics. maybe you can spot the issue.

question for you - obviously if i send over diagnostics, it will be after the download has completed. is that going to help?

 

Also, as far as i can tell - it only happens if a mod has been updated, and i download the updated version with the previous version still installed and active in my load order. i think that may be an important detail, or at least it gives a bit more context to the issue. As far as I can recall, if i download a mod i've never downloaded before, it doesn't happen. Or at least, I've never seen it happen.

 

by the way - i've seen this in fallout 4 and skyrim se as these are the games i have modded most from the bethesda games. i don't have mods for witcher, fonv or fo3 installed.
