Female main PC is much better

I played my first playthrough as a man but I have to say playing as woman adds a definite zing to the game especially when you are romancing the girls. I knew I was taking it too seriously though when I got excited because I found a pink saucepan and frying pan which matched my restored pink cooker

I'll take my non-voiced character thanks. And OP, not everyone plays the game in 3rd person, nor does everyone play the game to stare at their character's behind.

Personally I'll prefer a character I don't have to listen to, instead replying with my own (mental) voice. Thus, my PC tends to be a male.

Like Ethreon (Damn, I cannot believe I am actually agreeing with him), I play in first person and rarely see my character. Neither do I really enjoy a voiced protagonist. So OP, for me your arguments are moot.

I too play in first person and as a male, because I am male and I see the onscreen character as an extension of me, he even has grey hair and a grey beard, like me. The thought of playing as a female and flirting with the male companions, therefore, makes me uncomfortable. Mind you, I hadn't thought about a female flirting with female companions.

Interesting. I for one find that rather interesting. I'm also male and never questioned my gender identity, but I tend to play females. And if there are romance options, I hardly go with the lesbian cliché but with the question of who would my character be most attracted to. For me that's part of roleplaying. Playing what I am not and trying to tell a story rather than living it.

I always play as a female character. Maybe because I am a straight male, but I just like females better in general and feel like I get attached to a female character more. I care more about her story and her successes, than I would a male. I also feel like it's a more unique story, because throughout history, a strong male is your stereotypical hero. A strong female is more of an underdog. I'm also attracted to strong females IRL, so there's that.

I sort of agree with OP, I prefer to play in 3rd person. Well, kind of have to, 1st person makes me dizzy and nauseous for some reason, but even if it didn't, I'd still use 3rd person. So like OP, I prefer to look at a female character. I'm not an ass man and don't really like looking at asses in general (I'm entirely a breast man), but if I'm to look at anyone's backside, I definitely prefer it to be an attractive female. I don't really think of the character as "me", but as a character in a story that I happen to be controlling like a diety.

The voice acting doesn't bother me, I think they are both talented voice actors. Although often the voice/accent doesn't fit my character. It would have been great to have multiple voice choices like Saints Row, but at the very least, I wish they had a voice pitch slider like in Sims games (Saints Row 4 also had this, but anything other than default pitch sounds very metallic).

No gender identity discomforts here, my character doesn't have my name, my looks, my gender, my voice, or anything. If she flirts with a guy, it's she who flirts with them, not me. Actually, my character flirts indiscriminately with both male and female. She has a lot of love to give. Who am I to judge?

The smiling does look kind of weird, mostly because it's a derpy kind of expression.
