I am just not a fan of Bing..... (translates to 'disease' in chinese......) But then, I am not really a fan of Microsoft in general. :D But, I still run windows.....

Now THAT... is extremely interesting.

Totally did NOT know about that translation of Bing.

Even tho he no longer owns the company, MS still is, and will for many more years, still associated with Bill Gates in many people's minds.

Bill Gates. Wanted in 3 countries, for crimes against humanity.

Many of us do refer to windows as a virus. Medically speaking... virus... disease... common mental association.

 

Have a look at the sheer amount of Data windows 10 (and 11) want to report back to microsoft..... I see it as spyware masquerading as an operating system. :) You can turn off a bunch of it, supposedly, but, there is still a lot of data sent back to MS.

While I'm not arguing THAT... Myself, it categorizes itself into the full "malware" category.

Especially now that later versions of 10, and 11 attempts to require users to create accounts with user's info in it, to use the OS.

But yeah. Aside from all the unknown stuff that it sends out. There are aspects of the OS that are bloody hell to try to remove. And IF you do remove it, the operating system will REINSTALL it, without the user's knowledge, OR permission. That... is malware.

Yup yup. :) There IS a way to install win 11, WITHOUT setting up a Microsoft account. I do it at work fairly regularly. (I have the page book marked. :) ) I don't have an MS account on any of my machines, nor do I want one.

 

I would REALLY love to see some other company come out with an O/S that directly supports DirectX, so I don't have to deal with MS any more. Problem is, MS owns DirectX....... and I seriously doubt they will let anyone allow a competing O/S to support it natively.

I was horrified when I changed MS edge spellchecker to English/English, on by default every single thing typed was going back to microsoft for 'checking'. I wouldn't touch this OS with a barge pole if there was a better option, I can't do anything without it DEMANDING I sign in, no matter what, even to like a youtube vid it wants me to sign into an MS account first, even to transfer a pic from my phone to PC it demands a sign in, when choice is removed and replaced with demand, I will not comply. The entire Internet started out as a very beautiful thing, everything free, no ads, uncontrolled information, privacy, now it's a cesspool of filth not just satisfied with taking the notes from your pocket it picks you up , turns you upside down and shakes you to get your change as well. Here's something you can see for yourself, do a search for anything, usually getting millions of results, click to page 30 or so and you will see the results on page 30 are the EXACT same results as page 1, the internet is dead.

 

EDIT - Gee whiz, Just updated my graphics driver which now automatically adds "geforce experience" when it used to give you a choice, something else I just can't be bothered with as it demands an account as well FFS.

Steam has updated the steam sign in on my old gaming computer for when the ISP/router/steam server connection fails. Instead of offering me a button to click on so I can play in the Offline mode until a connection can be gotten with the steam server, now the message is, "You can try to play in the offline mode."

 

Only now there is no visible button to click on to get the offline mode so I can play the games requiring a Steam supported Offline mode to play the games requiring Steam's Offline settings.

 

Anyone know how to bypass that if a connection to Steam can't be acquired while the ISP/a broken router/the Steam servers are down?
