Stormcrown
I am more of a "reactive" virus user. I find antivirus software conflicts with many of the programs I use everyday, and I find it more annoying than useful. I'm very careful about what I download/etc, so I will go for 4-5 months without any viruses. If I do get one, I typically download Comodo Anti-Virus + Firewall, and Spyboy Search & destroy, and those two will get rid of anything. My vote for the best antivirus software would be Comodo. Comes with a sandbox, so any dangerous software can be run, but without danger to you.
HeyYou
How about: None. I have NO anti-malware apps running in the background. I find them unnecessary. I DO have CCleaner, Adaware, and SuperAntiSpyware installed on my machine, along with HiJackThis, but, they are only updated/used irregularly. I don't go places that hand out malware like free cookies at a bake sale. It's just not an issue for me. I also use an adblocker, which is the primary route for malware to make its way onto your system in the first place. I don't get viruses, I don't get malware. I get the occasional tracking cookies, and that's about it.
AlexxEG
My mom keeps paying for McAfee. No idea why....The whole program is slow. Almost like the GUI takes so much resources the whole program slows down. And when it's scanning it slows down the whole computer. (Even short freezes.) Illiad86
Urgh...that one is almost as bad as Norton lol :P The only one I found to be reasonable on people's systems is Kaspersky. I got it for my grandma because she has a terrible habit of following any link that her friends send her or just aimlessly wanders around on strange websites  I will admit I did the same thing when I was "new" to the Internet and my laptop suffered. Nothing a quick reformat doesn't fix though :P But, yeah, the majority of crap does come from ads. 7 years virus free thanks to NoScript and Adblock :D
hawke1133
Hijackthis for my browsers, Comodo internet security, Spybot, Malwarebytes, and regedit! lol(I needed a decent firewall 'cause I irritated a couple of script kiddies a while back.) Thor.
I just bought kaspersky premium for 15$ on boxing day 2012, and I'm loving it so far, stays out of the way, no anoying popups. infact you don't even know its there. Not to mention comes with a real nice popup stopper for explorer  . My last one was a 11 so it was a month away from expiring anyways, wouldn't use anything else. Arthmoor
Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Used to use Norton before they became such a massive hassle. Having worked in IT I also had access to Symantec Corporate, which frankly wasn't much better off in the hassle department.
AncientSpaceAeon
Dr.Web Cure It! They have a completely free simple antivirus. In my opinion, it's even better than the ones you have to pay for. But to be honest, my greatest defense is Ubuntu. Nothing can harm my computer there.
