How are you supposed to correctly install mods with Vortex?

Hi people,

So, Nexus Mod Manager was efficient and easy to use. But now, after many months not playing it, I decided to give Fallout 4 another go, so, had to reinstall it, and planned to update NMM, as for nearly all games I play, I don't need mods.

But bad surprise, now, Vortex replaced NMM, and it's a mess. When I try to install some mod I previously used for Fallout 4, it says "mod can't be deployed". mods that were perfectly installed with NMM.

And for some other mods : when you were installing them, an installation menu appeared, letting you choose some options or optionnal pluggins of said mod (for example : Natural and atmospheric Commonwealth); now, no such menu anymore. How am I supposed to install it properly now?

Really, Vortex seems to be really bad compared to its predecessor, much less practical, much less clear. Really need some help to understand how it is supposed to work

Edit : and it doesn't even install them properly, as when i launch Fallout 4, they don't even appear in the load order menu

Have you read and/or viewed any of the help material available? As 1ae0bfb8 noted, such material is abundant. Vortex contains a very useful Knowledge Base (accessed from the dashboard) as well as introductory videos (also accessed from the dashboard). This Vortex Support Forum and the Vortex Discussion Forum are also good sources of information, tips, and how-to instructions.

I'll stick to the last version of Nexus Mod Manager, it does the job properly, so, I don't see why I should switch to messy Vortex, when NMM is much clearer, has a much better interface, and actually installs the mods without "couldn't be deployed" message, a problem I never had with NMM.

When you start modding a game in NMM you get a setup screen where you have to configure a valid mod path. In Vortex it will use a sane default and only prompt you if that default doesn't work. So the only real difference is

a) You don't have to configure anything if the default works

b) You can change the directories at any time, using the same UI you initially set it up with

You are of course welcome to your opinion, but these don't seem like drawbacks to me.

And regarding installation menues: Vortex will show option dialogs for all mods that have options. NAC, at least the current version, doesn't have any.

Another thing you never had with NMM is a non-conflicting, working load order.
