EldritchBloke
After encountering the pink screen of death instead of the menu, I realised that my Archive invalidation was not working. This was because 'SInvalidationFile=ArchiveInvalidation.txt' was changed to 'SInvalidationFile='. A troubleshooting mod told me this, so imagine my surprise when I opened up the 'Fallout.ini' file in 'My Games/FalloutNV', only to find that it was completely empty. So, I copied the content from 'Fallout_default.ini' located in my 'Steam/steamapps/common/FalloutNewVegas' folder. Archive invalidation worked, I booted up the game, and was met with the same pink screen as before. Only then did I learn that whenever steam launches the game, it generates an entirely new 'Fallout.ini' file, erasing the content I had pasted in, and becoming blank once again. Could anybody explain to me why this is happening and help me find out how to get the game to start generating proper .ini files? I've been troubleshooting this game for nearly 3 days now and its driving me quite insane.
AugustaCalidia
This is the Vortex Support Forum. It's not clear to me that this is a Vortex issue. If not, then your best bet is to take your problem to a Fallout NV support forum. Only then did I learn that whenever steam launches the game, it generates an entirely new 'Fallout.ini' file, erasing the content I had pasted in, and becoming blank once again. What is your source for this?
EldritchBloke
My apologies, first time posting in one of these forums. As for a new .ini file being generated, I was browsing other forums, when another user mentioned this in response to someone who was also having .ini problems like me. I also saw it first hand. I.e. having the folder open when launching the game through script extender and seeing it disappear and reappear. All the content I had pasted into the .ini was also erased. Running the game with Steam doesn't generate a new ini file each and every time. Fallout New Vegas is really quirky Check your Users\<name>\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\ folder and see if you have a Fallout.ini, Fallout.base, and Fallout.Baked I had the same problem with FalloutNV for some weird reason, because the game initially keeps restoring the Fallout_Default.ini
Zanderat
In FNV, place all your custom ini settings in FalloutCustom.ini. You need JIP LN NVSE Plugin, https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58277 I thought this was well know by now.
