Help! External Changes Confusion

I have no idea why this is happening. I have made no NO changes to any of these mods. The only thing I did do was uninstall Majestic Mountains. I guess that I would want these mods to go back to their original individual files. The phrasing is confusing me. Is this "save" or "revert"? Thanks.

Forgive the typo in the title......... :confused:

The first part "You can undo these changes (which would be REVERT), or save them Permanently (Which would be SAVE CHANGES)

I think the part in parentheses is messed up and needs to be changed or removed.

Because I ALWAYS hit SAVE CHANGE in order to save any changes I made to the esps.

Removing Majestic Mountains, probably had Vortex restore meshes/textures for each of those mods, (they ARE all Landscape mods), so it's asking to save them

The other part that is weird too, is that I didn't make any changes to these mods. There were simply load "before" or "after" rules. It's like Vortex got confused and lost track of the individual overwrites/files for each mod.

I am thinking "revert" is the correct choice. I guess the fail-safe option would be to "uninstall" them which should revert them back to the versions in the downloads folder rather than the staging folder.

Like I said, I think the part of the message in Parentheses is Incorrect.

The first part of the warning is what always used to show. but the part in the parentheses is WRONG about what happens with REVERT vs SAVE CHANGES

I know you didn't make any changes to the mods, but do those mods have loose files or BSAs?

Because if they have loose files, then some files must've been restored by Vortex that were overwritten by Majestic mountains in all of those Landscape mods, and now it's telling you all of those mods have been changed.

It seems like a lot of landscape mods. I like to mix and match.

Ok. So I will try REVERT.

This does highlight an overall issue with Vortex, though. I feel that the messages displayed could be clearer. "Dummied down", if you will. I consider myself fairly expert and I still have get confused by some of these messages.

I would've suggested SAVE CHANGES, it's always worked for me

I don't know. I did a coin toss. If things look weird, I can uninstall/reinstall which should revert them back to the original version in the download folder

Thanks for the help.

@Zanderat

Please let us know how this turns out for you.

@HTR

Like I said, I think the part of the message in Parentheses is Incorrect.

Why is it incorrect?

Consider this, Why would the "SAVE" option (Which even says SAVE CHANGES in the Drop Down), remove the files permanently?

Wouldn't SAVE, (SAVE CHANGES) actually do what it says and SAVE THE CHANGES?

I would never clikc on something that says SAYS CHANGES, that actually REMOVES FIles Permanently

There's something in that message that is wrong, because I was always comfortable hitting SAVE CHANGES before, until I took the time to read the message, and now the SAVE option claims it's going to DELETE things permanently.

"External changes" means something outside of Vortex has interfered with the Data folder, in this case links have been deleted somehow.

Because I ALWAYS hit SAVE CHANGE in order to save any changes I made to the esps.

"Save change" makes permanent any changes that have occurred, "Revert change" will change things back to the way they were before.

"Save change" on a modified .esp will copy those changes to the original file in the staging folder. Thats not what has happened here though, links have been deleted. Hitting "Save change" on that will remove the original files from the staging folder too. "Revert change" would restore the links (and preserve the original files).

I agree its easy to get confused though been there myself a few times.
