HadToRegister
I already searched the other "Application state is invalid" threads, and the error message is very different from what I'm getting. This appears before Vortex even loads. So far I have selected "IGNORE" option just to avoid any problems right now, but I tend to edit a LOT of my ESPS and am wondering if this is considering the esps that I've edited as "Corrupted mod version" as the error message states?Or, si it possible it's treating the mods I converted to ESL (using Vortex) as corrupted?I updated from 1.3.20 to 1.4.11 as I usually wait until a Stable Release is announcedThis appears every time I open Vortex (I'm picking IGNORE) As far as I'm concerned there is nothing corrupted in my setupHere's the error message upon starting Vortex
yeahhowaboutnooo
same issue here, updated from 1.4.10 (not 100% sure) to 1.4.11 yesterday
Pickysaurus
So you can backup and repair here without too much trouble. Several of your mods have the "version" attribute stored as something over than a string. Vortex will delete the version from these mods during the repair. SuzanoSho
Having the same issue.@Picky, are you saying that selecting the Backup and Repair option won't cause us to lose any data? The main thing I'm worried about is that it doesn't give us any info about WHICH mods are affected, at all, so I would hate to have to hunt down which ones were ruined without any info after the fact... Frost73ite
Same here. The backup and repair option failed to correct the issue for me.
yeahhowaboutnooo
backup and repair worked for me.Made a backup of my %appdata%\vortex folder beforehand nevertheless.Just curious: any easy way to know which of those files was corrupted?Would like to diff my backup against whatever vortex is now using? Pickysaurus
Unfortunately Vortex won't be able to tell you specifically which mods, however, it was the Star Sector extension that was known to cause this problem, In terms of data loss the "version" field for any invalid mods will be deleted. No other data should be touched (unless the dialogue says so)

No other data should be touched (unless the dialogue says so) In my case, Vortex is referring to Skyrim Special Edition, where I have 381 mods installed with around 150 ESPs converted to ESL by Vortex. I also heavily edit my Mod List, (The Esps) by using scripts to change Weights of Items, along with adding sorting prefixes to items as well, because it's just easier to do it that way, than to clutter up my load order with a ton of "Sorting Mod.esps" So I'm especially hesitant about doing anything other than hitting "IGNORE"
HadToRegister
One thing that's really terrible about this Pop Up warning when you first start Vortex, it will sometimes Pop up BEHIND any window or browser you have open, so you'll think that vortex isn't running, when in fact the entire "Application State is Invalid" window is sitting there on the desktop waiting for you to choose an option. Tannin42
Since Windows 8 or so Applications are not (by default) allowed to force their window(s) to the front because that was abused by malware (bringing itself to the front and then stealing the user input)Hence Windows may put our dialog/window in the background if it decides another application should have focus and there is nothing we can do about that. > In my case, Vortex is referring to Skyrim Special Edition, where I have 381 mods installed with around 150 ESPs converted to ESL by Vortex. Are you sure? Was that stated in the log file? Otherwise: Vortex validates the entire state for all games on startup, that dialog may refer to any mods in any game. If it helps ease your mind: So far we've had no indication that this repair function or the backup mechanism have ever failed. You have to be careful to not keep the backup around for days and _then_ restore it because that will then lose you data but other than that, this really should simply drop the mod version from mods where the version was already an invalid data type (so it wasn't working correctly anyway)
