Idea: 'similar mods' tab

I think mod-pages should have a tab where users can link that mod to the pages of similar mods. This would NOT be curatable by the mod creator but exist on their modpage in a tab of it's own. The links to other mods would be added by users, and have upvote buttons similar to reddit so that the community can sort the MOST similar or MOST related mods to the top. You could separate the links by mod category. For example, an overhaul might add 'armor' and 'enemies' so the 'similar mods' page would have two categories, one for 'armor' category mods and one for 'enemy' category mods, and probably one for 'overhaul' mods too.

The actual links and connections would be curated by votes from the community members, each user can add one link, and add one vote per category.

What do you think?

An upvote/downvote system was used on the Nexus years ago, and finally abolished due to rampant user abuse. I highly doubt that you will get the majority of mod authors to support its return. I could see it possibly working as an automated system working with/off of the tags system, but that, of course, requires mods to be properly tagged in the first place.

no choice to the delete the mod since 2021 anymore but additionally the risk to get bashed by vote in 2022 for what can not be deleted ? absolutely brilliant idea! any more creative and mod author friendly ideas ?

I think that denying mod authors the ability to enable or disable this "feature" makes it a no-go.

As I see this, this is just an attempt to allow authors to advertise their work on competing mod pages. Allowing "voting" just smacks of trying to enable an author to say "see, people like mine better".

Arthmoor believes authors should be able to "enable or disable" such a function, which is correct, but only half the issue. I would add that authors should be able to have their mod excluded as a "competing" mod on other mod pages.

I also see where you're coming from, and I kinda like the idea, but you're forgetting about a human factor. "Ego". Present company excluded, but I do remember some modders back in the day, who got real, real egotistical about their downloads, votes, and upvotes. And got seriously testy, and made big, ongoing messes for the staff, in regards to mods that were very similar to theirs. (I know the first thing going thru BBK's mind right now is "face presets")

Such a mindset is kind of akin to number of likes shares and quotes on social media. Once you start getting into that 500+ range, you start feeling pretty good about it. Such a system would inevitably lead to somebody feeling that the system was pulling downloads away from their mod, to a different modder's work. Which would lead to them crying to the staff about it, and maybe even possibly demand an investigation of stolen assets.

There is also bandwidth. Most likely the system would start out much like the "required mods" system already in place. Text links. Say that I'm in the fallout 4 mods, like usual. I open up a mod for the 10 mm pistol. I now have a tab with at least 50 text links to other mods. I start clicking through those mods in new tabs. That's extra bandwidth that this user is taking up, opening those pages. And the ongoing price of bandwidth for this site, is a serious struggle for the site to pay for.

Besides, I'd rather just use the search function. It takes up a lot less of the sites assets, and it gives me page previews that I can view without having to open a whole new page/tab.
