I bought Hearthfire the day it released and for 5 bucks, I believe it was well worth it. Sure there are other FREE mods out there that allow you to build your own home, or to just download pre-made homes that suit your interests. However, I wish to use Hearthfire because it is Bethesda quality. Now I am not saying that the housing mods out there are not of good quality, it's just that they feel sort of clunky from time to time because we do not have unparalleled access to the game like the Devs do, so Hearthfire, for me, feels more smooth, polished, and an overall better experience. Now that we have Beths creation, mod authors can now BUILD upon what Beth has already laid out for us and mod authors can make Hearthfire so much more epic than what it already is. They can use Hearthfire to better their own popular mods and what not. Hell, I think that we will start seeing a boost in mods that allow us to build our own houses. And I can not wait to see what will be done! -Elsarian

Does anyone know how to restart college of Winterhold quests?

Also, sorry for the double post, what version of the game do you have? Have you gotten any of the recent patches? -

First off, what copy of the game are you using? -
Lol, it was only a matter of time.

Whoa! I had no clue this mod was already here! Sweet! Thank you so much.

Hello everyone, I would just like to submit a few ideas for the Companions. First of all, I hated the fact that right as you start with the companions, Farkas gives you your first radiant quest. It's either something to do with bandits, creatures, or with Dawnguard, bloodsuckers. However, right after that one quest, Skjor already want's to see you for an important quest to find a shard of Wuuthrad. This is where my problem lies. There aren't enough radiant quests in between the main portions, so for me, I don't feel very ingrained into the guild like I did in Oblivion. I think that there should have been at least 3 more radiant quests that should have been done before you head off to Dustman's Cairn with Farkas. I think that there should be things to do between main guild quests so that you are getting paid, and actually "feel" like your apart of the guild. Maybe this makes sense, maybe it doesn't. Any and all constructive criticism is welcome.

Hearthfire Release for PC: When and how?
Elsarian replied to AmadanBezerk's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I do not think that Hearthfire will ever be released on disk. If you remember Oblivion GOTY, it only included Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. Not the other minor expansions such as player homes, mehrunes razor, and horse armor. So, Skyrims DLC pack with include all of the major expansions to the game. Dawnguard, in my mind, can be considered as an expansion due to the vast new content and multiple new world spaces that get to be visited. So, I believe Skyrim will have a GOTY Edition that reflects that of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. -Elsarian -
Using console to skip first half of game?
Elsarian replied to forthemods08's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
All you have to do is player.setstage then whatever the code is for the quest you are wanting to complete. And yes, there are a lot of issues that can happen if you do these things. There are certain events that are supposed to happen by completely one quest after the other. So, it's best to just start all over, and go back through the game like you would on your first play-through. I hate having to create new games, so that's why I tend to stray from heavy modding until the patches stop. That's the same thing I did with Oblivion. Patches are a mods worse nightmare. I keep only about 6 base mods that I can't live without installed. And they don't even change a lot. So, you might want to do that until Beth stops patching the game. -
I think the mod you are referring to is SMIM. Skyrim Improved Meshes, or something of that sort. I used that mod as well.

I completely agree that there are other mods out there produce better quality textures, but at the same time, and I don't really know why, but I'm attached to Beth's textures. It's just that the colors are so balanced, and everything fits so well with the game, as is. However the only problem is that the resolutions are low. And all Bethesda really did was up the resolution of all the textures, so there will not be much of a difference right of the bat. Everything will just be less blurry, and more vivid. Water was once 512, now it 1024 and so on. I personally like them, but that is just my opinion of course. What's you favorite texture mod? Skyrim 2K?

Well, let's look at what they did with Fallout: They bought the rights to a game series that really wasn't widely known and was mostly loved by very serious, devoted gamers. It was almost like a cult classic. Much like Mount & Blade was, then Bethesda bought the rights to Fallout and created a game that completely revamped, re styled, and rebuilt everything from the ground up, besides the lore. Not only did they completely revolutionize the gameplay of Fallout, but they made it a hit. Everyone, well mostly everyone, loved the game and enjoyed the new style of open-world, RPG gameplay. So with all that in mind, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, with it's already creepy, post-apocalyptic atmosphere, could also have the same thing done to it as what was done to Fallout at the hands of Bethesda Studios. To be honest, I wouldn't have even been interested in the Fallout series had they continued down the same path. I haven't even played the games, but from what videos I have watched, it's just not my style. I don't like the top-down camera, I especially can not stand turn based combat. I hate it. So Bethesda made the world of Fallout into a game that I love dearly and really enjoy. Maybe they can do the same with STALKER. -Elsarian

Yes, even though the idea is good, it would take a lot of hard work to implement something like this. But, I am sure that there is an author out there with plenty of talent to do such a thing. There may be some features that are impossible, due to popyrus, that will have to go, and some that could work. I can only hope. Yes, there would be an increase tax on travel as well based on what's going on within the world.
-
I can see the idea of adding an actual tax system to ALL of Skyrims goods. Also, another interesting thing that can be done is tax variations based on what's going on in the world. If you take Economics of Skyrim, for example (wonderful mod), it adds different values to different items based on where you are in the world. A piece of treasure could be worth more in Marcarth than in Whiterun, so if you take that global logic that that Economics of Skyrim implements, then add on a tax system that changes based on the location of a city, it's condition, i.e poor or wealthy, and what in Skyrim is going on. For example: Say you are doing the Civil War quest line, and you join the Stormcloaks. Once things really start getting underway, Ulfric may decide to raise taxes on all goods and services to try and raise more money to fund his armies, and supply his fortresses, which in turn would cause prices to go up, which means less people will buy there, so there will be a drop in certain items that can be bought there, i.e before the war started, the blacksmith sold some ebony ingots, but once the war is in full sway, those items are completely gone because the blacksmith can't afford buying higher-end materials due to the raise in tax. Not only does this effect merchants and all other services, but it also would affect how much per month you pay tax on your home! So, to me at least, it all weaves together perfectly.

I'm not sure about the difficulty in which the mod would encompass, but there really aren't strong gusts of wind in the vanilla game. All you here are breezes and the like. At least that is what it sounds like to me. You should try sending a request to some of the well known environmental authors here on the nexus that mods a lot of the skyrims environment. You should get a better answer from them.
-
Indeed. I love the idea of actually having to pay property tax and all. I have always been in love with the idea since Oblivion and have ever since wished that it could be apart of Skyrim. One day, I am sure that it will come along. There are already some mods out there that deal with economics in skyrim, so maybe one of those authors will implement this as a future feature their mod. We can only hope. -Elsarian

I would just like to request (if it already hasn't been requested) a mod that adds tax to all of the vanilla player homes. I played around with a few mods back in Oblivion that implemented these features, and I must say that it enhanced my immersion 10 fold. It was so cool and interesting to have to keep up with how much money you have per month to pay your taxes and avoid getting hauled off to jail, or tax collectors coming out to bust your chops with fees and so on. It really made me feel apart of the world, and above all, made me feel like I was a real citizen that owned property and must make his/her contribution to society and so forth. This, I think, would be a wonderful addition to the game. If there is already an author out there working on a mod like this, if not better, then please keep it up and I can't wait to see your work! -Elsarian

If you don't know the name of the mod, then it's highly unlikely that one of us could help you. There are probably hundreds of mods that does that. A handy thing to start doing is archiving the mods that you download so that if you put the game down for a while, when you come back you'll have them ready to be installed. It's a smart thing to do.

Since your willing to spend that amount per month, then I would suggest first buying a really good Radeon card. A good HD 6850 from XFX is right around 200 I think, but then again I'm going my USD and not Euros, so yeah. What ever that amount in dollars translate to in Euros. But I would spend that chunk of money per month on one part each.
-
Seeing that your old AMD card held up that well, would it not be good to reason to get an even better Radeon card? Between a 6770 (what I have) to a 7xxx series will do you wonders.

What you state could not be more spot on than it already is. I believe that Skyrims world and landscape needed just that; landscape. By spreading out these locations and adding much more land to the area, then I think the game would have been even more epic. Sure, it's a given that the game is massive and has lots of content, but I just wish that there was more land, and more area to breathe in rather than more dungeons/locations. But one will also add in the factor of hardware. Skyrim was all about the 360 and we know it. So the question that then comes into play is whether or not it would perform well on that system or not. This is why I am praying to the gods above that new generations of consoles will up the ante with their hardware, and maybe, just maybe, will we then start seeing some truly massive, and I mean massive games. Perhaps the size of the elder scrolls' game's are just scratching the surface and their true potential has yet to be unleashed.

AMD Beta Drivers promise up 25% more performance
Elsarian replied to Dan3345's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Considering that people are having HUD issues, I am going to avoid this beta until they officially release it. I learned my lesson with updating to some of Skyrim's beta patches and listening to the issues that people are having. However, is it proven that this happens with the vanilla HUD? Maybe some of the users are using a mod that changes the interface in some way and the beta drivers could be screwing around with it. Has it been confirmed? -
New AMD driver update fixed my Skyrim
Elsarian replied to Galacticat42's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
My friend, you are a god for making this wonderful post! I have been slightly shy of some of the updates because the last one I got caused my game to go haywire when AA was enabled. But, considering that it is not giving you fits, and since our GPU's aren't to far apart (I have a 6770), then I'm sure everything will go fine! Thanks my friend! -Elsarian -
Well oblivions archive doesnt have a characters folder either. That is added when ever you install a mod that contains a folder called "characters" and so on. Mod authors do that to keep files structured and makes manual uninstallation bearable. So, just throw in the body mod that you have and see if it goes through. If the mod you are using has just a textures folder, then take that folder, drop it into Nehrims Data folder just like you would for Oblivion, and see if things carry over that way. It's a hassle, I know. Im not fluent on trying to get mods over to Nehrim because I never tried to mod Nehrim XD.
-
Hmm, that's interesting because I could have sworn that it might have done the same for both. Check for where you installed Nehrim, and see if that might have a data archive as well because there are some mods out there that are strictly for Nehrim. So, also there you should deactivate all mods that you use for Oblivion. All the major overhaules that you use and so on. Things such as texture replacers and the like will be fine to keep active, just make sure you have all other major mods disabled when you load up Nehrim.

Ok, instead of bashing how terrible the patch is, which it isn't for me, Horse combat has now stopped functioning properly. I signed up for the beta a few days after its announcement and combat worked just fine. Spectacularly to be quite honest. However, the other night I signed into to steam to look at the workshop, just to see what was there, and steam automatically started to download an 18 meg file that didn't seem like the official patch because of how small it was. Anyways, ever since that download, none of my attacks are hitting what I am swinging at except at one specific angle right around the head of the horse. Perhaps some of you have encountered issues with is, and hopefully someone will have an answer. Google is of no use, already tried. -Elsarian
