  1. I believe it is acceptable to kill someone in defense of yours, or someone else's life. That is, if someone is threatening or attempting to seriously injure or kill you or another person, or otherwise you feel you really, really have a strong reason to believe that this person is endangering the lives of others and there is no other alternative.

I think that it should always be the absolute last resort, though, and obviously it's something that you must think very very hard about before they you on it. After all, no matter how good your reasoning was for your actions, you will have to live with it for the rest of your life.

Cops seem to make a very regular habit of shooting and killing unarmed civilians, which I consider to be cold blooded murder, and it upsets me that it's so commonly accepted. In my mind, it's unacceptable. The police don't really have to kill a person unless they're armed and are seriously threatening the lives of others. For example, that shooting at the courthouse in Tyler, Texas - I believe, in that case, their killing of the perpetrator was very justified. The man was armed, with a very powerful firearm no less, he had already killed two people and shot several others, and he made it very clear he would kill anyone who got in his way.

In contrast, a few months ago here, an unarmed man was shot and killed by the police, which was really upsetting to me. If he wasn't armed, then there is absolutely no valid excuse for ending his life. Police have many, many acceptable alternatives at their disposal - whatever the situation was, they could have simply tased the man and apprehended him.

Like I said, one should not resort to killing other humans unless other lives hang in the balance and there is absolutely no other way to resolve the situation...

  2. I feel bad I can't give anyone kudos, I don't think I've ever been able to, it always fails. :(

EDIT by LHammonds: Just keep a list of everyone's profile page you want to give a kudos to. For example, to keep a link to your profile, I'd keep the following link:

    http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/user/1890622-lehcar/

When the kudos program starts working again, just visit each profile and click the kudos + link.

  3. Have you ever experienced a natural disaster first hand?

I have not, for which I am very grateful that I live very far inland, since most of all of these natural disaster seem to originate from the oceans. Mean, nasty oceans. I remember when the one of my favourite beaches on the east coast was destroyed by a severe storm. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/down.gif

There was apparently an earthquake here a few days ago, and some people in my city say they felt it; I was actually outside and walking around when it occurred but I didn't feel a thing. There's also been some tornadoes very nearby, but the area where I live hasn't been hit directly for quite a long time (since before I was born, anyway).

  4. it's probably dead and gone by now, but at least 2 years ago there was an RP mod that allowed you to start in any guild/inns/player homes and certain areas around cyrodiil and the main quest wouldnt start unless you were arrested within the imperial city. (it also had compatibility for all the DLC, so that you could still use them all before getting arrested.)

    I hope it's not gone :(

I believe that's a part M.O.E. It's a big mod with a bunch of modular parts, check Planet Elder Scrolls. I do believe there's a copy there.

I also suggest you check out some of the other mods in M.O.E. It's a very nice set, a lot of awesome overlooked bits.

    Thanks, Isawachicken.

M.O.E does indeed contain the mod I was talking about. However, there used to be a standalone version (Much like the one that's available, but never required any kvatch rebuilt mods). Oh well, M.O.E seems badass enough to get anyway... so thanks again for pointing it out! :D

Also sounds a lot like this mod, though to be honest, I tried this before and found it rather buggy. Starting popups from other mods I have installed, like Deadly Reflex and Better Cities, just refuse to wait and keep interrupting the ones from this mod. There is also this one, which looks good but I have not tried it.

  5. I made a mod for a summonable Will o the Wisp companion. It works absolutely perfectly, all of the scripting is fine and everything works great in game. The only thing is, the Wisp isn't following me right. I'll summon it and tell it to follow me, and it does, but once I get out into the wilderness and start running continuously over long distances it'll disappear from behind me. I stop and it doesn't show up so I have to summon it again. I have it set to follow me quite closely, should I maybe make it a little closer? It moves very fast but once I start sprinting, it stops running after me, and it just fades away and disappears. Any suggestions about how I may remedy this?

Or are Will-o-the-Wisps' just not a very good choice for companions? (sadly for my magic man, I suspect I may need to try a different creature.) :(

  6. Why is it that the power attack and hit voice effects do not work when playing as a Golden Saint or Dark Seducer? I saw a fix but sadly it hasn't been updated since the day it was released, and I do not use the race balancing project mod because I don't know how to make it work with my current race mod or merge it or whatever... this sucks, I want to play Aureal/Mazken but I don't want them to be silent. Is there anything I can do? :(
  7. Hmm well strangely, when I was exploring Beth's test town Hawkhaven, the game kept crediting me for kills I didn't make. When you enter the town all of the monsters in the creature testing area nearby immediately start fighting with each other; I stayed away and didn't get their notice, but I have oblivion XP and it kept saying, for example, "253.3 XP: Killed Marauder Battlemage, level 6" even though it was one of the Xivilai that killed her, not me. Lol, weird.
  8. In case you haven't seen this already...

It's clear they've learned from their mistakes with Oblivion's character design at least somewhat. Of course we'll have to wait until we can play with the chargen system ourselves before any real judgements can be made. At the very least, they don't seem to be making the mistake of putting out CG trailers that have absolutely nothing to do with the game. *coughNearlyEveryRPGFromThePastFewYearscough*

Woaaah, I hope things really look that good once finished! Those guys are... very very attractive... even the Orc

  9. That's really not what I meant at all. I wasn't really being specific at all. I only stated that the actor designs in Oblivion could have benefited from more work, even in 2006, nothing else. I only stated that I hope Skyrim will more fully take advantage of the software that we do have available to us now, nothing else.
  10. I'll take a leap and get my hopes up for Skyrim, though as a lifelong gamer, I know very well to never ever trust a trailer. But I still hope the screenshots are being honest and that Bethesda will put a lot more care and effort to character textures and designs than they did in Oblivion (I think this particular aspect of their designing Oblivion was largely neglected, the character textures and meshes that came with the game were very very poor quality). I really hope for reasonably realistic characters who can be plain or attractive looking, as I believe character designs are of the most important aspects of any game. If that doesn't work well with whatever Bethesda gives us, then thank goodness it's an issue easily fixed the ever amazing modding community

(hopefully the facegen textures won't be as borked as Oblivion's, at least.)

  11. Hm, well I tried downloading throttlekitty's age map and NPC face replacers for the vanilla races, but they made everyone in the game look absolutely awful, all faces were so horribly discolored I just couldn't use them. :(
  12. I am trying to create replacement face texture for throttlekitty's Head06 human head mesh, but I've run into the thorny problem of the age maps, which obviously do not work on the mesh. How did Bethesda create the vanilla ones? How do I make new ones? (could technically just blank out all of the age maps, which would fix the problem, but then everyone in the game would look very young which I don't want to happen..)
  13. Holy smokes, has anyone else tried using the console to explore the test cells that were left in the game by Bethesda?

Most of them are empty or uninteresting, but the "Testing Hall"?? Woaah, this might be one of the most intriguing places in Oblivion, which I am currently still exploring. You should explore it if you haven't, it's REALLY awesome.

In the Clothing test room I found a full set of non-enchanted, but unique and VERY awesome looking armor called "Archmage Armor", which I do not recall ever seeing in the game. Is this content that was cut from the game, or could it have been added by a mod? Hmmm I'm confused, unsure why Beth would let incredible meshes like that go to waste.

There's a lot of other cool stuff in there, too. Like full sets of every armor set in the game, every weapon in the game, every piece of clothing in the game, including copies of all of the quest rings and amulets, so you can get another Dreamworld Amulet, Thornblade Medallion, and Amulet of Kings. Everyone should check this out. :D

I've also discovered it to be an excellent place to test out clothing/armor/weapon mesh and texture replacers.

  14. It doesn't make sense for them to charge that much when they do not even provide proper care for their residents. If someone's collapsed to the floor and is unable to get up, and their skin is turning blue, you do not wait a single moment to call paramedics (if you've got even a shred of intelligence, you should not need a "medical technician" to "confirm" that they need emergency medical attention). Also, depriving children and teenagers of food is extremely harmful to their physical and psychological development, which totally counteracts this place's supposed "purposes".
