  1. I can't be any help on the 64bit issue but is Oblivion installed in the default C:\Program Files (x86) directory? If so the Microsoft security feature UAC may be causing problems. It's recommended to install Oblivion outside Program Files (e.g. C:\Games\Oblivion\...).
  2. In the vanilla game enchanted weapons and armor already have a slight glowing effect on your character and NPCs. I use No persistant enchantment glow fix to remove the effect. The effect in vanilla is probably too subtle for what you are after, but perhaps there's a way to enhance what is already there.
  3. Installing Oblivion in the default C:\Program Files (x86) is a common problem causer. The un-modded game runs fine but as soon as you start installing mods the Microsoft security feature UAC will start to interfere. I'm not familiar with DR6 so I can't help there, but if you do decide to go through an uninstall/re-install be sure to install outside of Program Files (x86) (e.g. C:\Games\Oblivion). One of the moderators here bben46 has posted this uninstall/re-install guide to help achieve a correct and complete job.
  4. Did you test for crashes before adding any mods?
  5. I'm wondering about your uninstall/re-install. When you uninstalled did you clean out the leftover registry entries? Here's an excerpt from bben46's uninstall/re-install guide: You might want to take a look through the guide as well and see if anything he mentions rings any bells for you (about what to do or not to do). I have seen the using the DVD to uninstall trick mentioned in other uninstall guides ... part of a thorough uninstall for problematic situations.
  6. Errr ... are we obsessed?? Not me ... a normal male who's vote goes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 2 & 1 (using MarkinMKUK's HGEC size progression). Now that applies to Oblivion ... real world may mirror that order somewhat, but the final selection criteria are heavily modified by that gray lump located between the ears of the head attached to said mammaries. When all is said and done the mind is mightier than the 'mam'.
  7. I suspected as much about not being able to change focus to the browser monitor. If the browser monitor was big enough and could be swung to portrait mode so no scrolling was required you could have it for a single web page though. I use a laptop myself, with the UESP Wiki walkthrough and map on separate tabs in my browser. A bad habit that got started when I was in Main Quest '60 Gates' mode ... glad that's over.
  8. Did you have an economy mod (e.g. Enhanced Economy) installed and then remove it?
  9. Using your method I agree with you Telyn (and thank you for that clear description). I believe the OP's problem is that some of the omod files have been manually overwritten with non-omod files, that he would like to keep after deactivating and removing the omod. Problem is OBMM will remove those files when the omod is deactivated. I'm a mix and match, cobble as mash-up kinda' guy myself, which is why I could commiserate. For 99.99% of the population who don't share our disease OBMM and omod is the way to go, no doubt (although I can hear Hickory growling something about Wrye Bash  ).
  10. Am I missing something? With a dual monitor setup why would you need to Alt + Tab? The only reason I can think of is to change focus so the mouse would work in the browser monitor if you needed to scroll the page or something. If you had the browser monitor in portrait mode you could probably eliminate that by getting your UESP walkthrough all set before starting Oblivion on the other screen. Until I'm convinced otherwise I'm still trailing a little drool.
  11. Game of the Year version should be 1.2.0416 right out of the install.
  12. OMODs make life simpler if all you do is use OBMM but if you're like us and 'tweak' things a bit it creates more headaches than it's worth, in my opinion.
  13. What sort of updates were done just prior to the problem (i.e. DirectX, Windows SP etc.).
  14. I know that on Windows 7 and Vista the C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) directories are protected by UAC (and it's attendant headaches) but I'm not sure about C:\Users (I'm an old XP dinosaur who's resisting the 'more improved complicated'). Are you running the game from the same account that was used to install it? If it was installed using an administrative account but you're trying to run from a limited account you'll run into trouble saving.
  15. Is your fresh install outside of Program Files (not that this should be an issue with saving ... just you're at the best spot for making that change if needed)? Have you tried starting a new game and saving ... I'm thinking save file corruption here when you load an old save and then try to resave. I've seen lots of complaints about autosave and quick save causing corruption, I avoid both of them.
  16. You can either join the Mages Guild and use the Enchanting Altar or install one of the many mods that include your own personal Enchanting Altar. Grand or black soul gems provide the same level of enchantment, it's just the black one that can be used to capture NPC souls (i.e. bandits etc.). If you have the Wizard's Tower DLC you can use the enchanting altar in Frostcrag Spire. I just recently downloaded and installed Aranmathi Ayelid Home which has an enchanting altar (thank you DeathbornAeon ... kudos for the link) and has become my latest favourite home.
  17. How about making a backup of your Data folder and all it's contents, deactivate the mod with OBMM, restore your backed up Data folder (overwriting when prompted) and then manually delete what's necessary. Keeps what you want and OBMM should let you delete the de-activated omod file.
  18. The directory structure should be C:\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves. The game won't find them in the C:\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion directory.
  19. The 'any Steam games' part may be from moving your Steam folder. From my understanding of that Steam link I linked earlier you should get all them back to normal when you play them ... could be wrong though ... you're talking to the anti-Steam guy here.
  20. Not a bother at all. I was thinking more along the lines of the registry cleaning part of the guide (which is why I excerpted and linked). You should have a look through the guide and see how it compares with the uninstall method you have been using. Where available it's always best to use either the uninstall provided with the program or use the Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel. Just deleting folder leaves a mess in the registry rather than just a few crumbs left behind.
  21. LOL ... right after they say "All hail the hero of Cyrodiil".
  22. Here's an excerpt from bben46's uninstall/re-install guide:
  23. I'm stumped ... does Steam let your uninstall and then reinstall games on the same machine? If so that would be my next suggestion (in case you got a corrupt download or similar). Worth trying before you spend more money. Edit: sorry reread your post ... what about re-downloading it?
  24. I'm not a Steam user but doesn't Steam have a game launcher? Also the file OblivionLauncher.exe is the one to use to start the game, not Oblivion.exe (thank you whalecakes for getting me up to speed on that detail).
  25. Not the wrong hand position for blocking ... actually the right position for that. I'm not disagreeing with fore on the difficultly of what you propose, but it would be a cool addition to the game. Farmers unite ... pick up your hoes and rakes and scythe and kick some bandit butt!!
