You can't like vanilla that much. I can practically guarantee it. I played Skyrim (for instance) thousands of hours vanilla and there are those moments in the game(s) where you think to yourself "Gee... I wish I could change that". Like with a vanilla bug that Beth never bothered to fix? Okay, okay. I want to see someone post that they 100% like everything about their vanilla Bethesda game of choice and have no desire ever to change anything about them.
-
Okay, I admit that even I don't try to mod every game I own because some of them really don't need mods. They're that enjoyable on their own for me. But Bethesda games? Really? Like the difference between vanilla and modded is so significant enormous that I don't see why anyone wouldn't mod their Beth games. As far as ease goes, I can install a new copy of Skyrim right now, download a MM and literally just click a few buttons to mod my games. It doesn't get any easier than that.

In 2024? When literally the company itself advertises it's own mods in the game menu screen? There are actually ppl that aren't even a little curious what the deal is with them and never even bother to check anything out? See the difference mods make in Bethesda games in Ytube video after video for the last twenty years? Are they human?

So... a popular Ytuber I have been watching for a few months stated recently that he has never modded his games. Like ever. Not going to say a name, but this guy has been gaming for at least two decades playing a lot of MMOs. He also has played a lot of single player games as well in that time... and has never, not even once, thought about downloading some mods for his games (note that he has reviewed Beth games)? He said his reason was "it feels like cheating". Are there really people out there that think this? I mean... MG do these people even realize how much you can mod in games anymore (Beth games are insane)? Obviously they don't. You can download so many mods to improve the performance, aesthetics, weapons, enemies, etc. and not even touch the gameplay mechanics or difficulty settings at all. So is it just a simple case of people not bothering to even look at mods and don't understand the mind-blowing amount of stuff you can change in a vanilla game? Or is it some glitch in their programming that causes them to think "mods bad"? I am profoundly perplexed by this. Particularly from gamers. Anybody care to explain?

Entitlement. Seems to be the new social disease. I deeply admire the people who make s#*! happen and don't crave excessive attention or praise. Thankfully there's still a lot of them and you just don't know it because they hardly ever say anything.

Already has enough downloads of mods to be in the top 20 games on this site and while it was in early access a long time- that's still a pretty significant indication of fans wanting mods- a lot of them. True that Larian is more or less unknown to the mod community at large and has released modding tools with limited functionality in the past. True that the game is lacking some essential elements that modders needed to work with in Beth games (like morphs). But something tells me this game will get almost the same attention from modders that Skyrim has enjoyed for over a decade now and will probably be in the top five modded games on this site in a few years. What do you think? I've put about 500 hours into this game so far and see SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!

Mods on top of a somewhat unstable engine is why. That and modders have a tendency to just "try" things sometimes and may not be able to test them much. You should report problems/bugs on the mod page and let the author get a look at it. Chances are good that some benevolent soul finds/has a solution.

They probably cut/changed something that all those saves depended on.

Combat Freeze after Patch 3
Fkemman11 replied to PharoahsCrusader's topic in Baldur's Gate 3's Discussion
Nope. Don't think it's the mods. I'm playing vanilla game right now with patches and it's more buggy. Think they broke as much as they fixed. Item menus and the fast travel map- that were working fine before the patches- are both bugged now for me. Combat is more buggy too from what I can tell, though it's not as bad as the other two. -
Everything is usually explained on the individual mod pages for what they do, how to install them and possible (if any) bugs they might cause. Just gotta read stuff.

Is there any point in even using the internet anymore?
Fkemman11 replied to InDarkestNight's topic in Debates
You have to give to get in my experience. You bring something to the table or you don't and get ignored. If you're relying on the benevolence of fellow users on the net without giving them anything in return, then you've misjudged and overstepped your boundaries. -
How? Do you play without the unofficial patches? I don't. That's just one example. Another is that Bethesda learns from their modding community with so many very, very good ideas and implements some of them into their later games. Sometimes I think they are just as amazed at what the community can pull off as the rest of us. Also understand that I did not say they 'needed' the modding community, I said they rely on it- want it. There's the difference.

"I don't ever see the world being 'unified' either. We have too many differences for that to happen. Unless/until there is some 'outside' threat, that rallies us together.... we will remain a tribal society, that only serves to kill each other off. Or all of us....." Which is why we're at the point of not even caring anymore and looking out for our own. On the Titanic and it finally hits us that we are going down with the ship. We cue the band to play one last song and bid everyone a dignified "Adieu". It is out of our hands now- or at least that's the sentiment I keep hearing from individuals.

"Anybody else though? (aside from Hilary) and he will lose." Bernie Sanders would also lose again (if he changes his mind and runs). In fact, very few can match Trumps sheer magnetism (thanks in large part to his big mouth and the media that uses him to boost ratings consistently). Love or hate the man, people will always pay attention if his name is in the headlines. There are a few on both sides of the isle that could steal the spotlight from him- if they can upstage him decisively. Depends on how much of their rep they're willing to stake. One or two have nothing to lose really, and they actually have some reasonable solutions in mind on most major issues. But again, the media is quick (and relentless) to brand them so they won't be heard at all. But bold prediction is that Joe gets a second term and all will appear smooth sailing for a bit longer. *again, this is just my opinion*

AI art will change everything. Will it really?
Fkemman11 replied to gabrielrock19's topic in Debates
"Yes, companies will use it to instantly fire many, many artists and animators." Unfortunate and very true. But Indies will thrive as a result and those short-sighted stock holders and executives will see nothing but diminishing returns in something they see as only a business. Revenues from games far surpass that of even films anymore and they believe they can use nothing but safe, "proven" formulas to get every cent from us they can (Loot boxes, Pay to win, etc.) But their own greed will turn the AAA industry into a stagnant beast that rests lazily while the wild beast we love and yearn to see again is howling in the forests. AI assists, not replaces humans- especially where creativity is concerned. -
Doesn't matter anymore. Big corporations and special interest groups run the country now- and the world. With populations projected to decline over the coming decades, the elites are much more interested in keeping everyone alive for as long as possible to fuel the global economy. Trump is a dinosaur that gets in the way- simple as and whether he gets into office again or not is actually irrelevant in the overall scheme. Main concern is how to handle China- a wild card and threat to the global establishment. Trump serves one purpose- he's a convenient diversion/excuse. We'll never see meaningful campaign reform or anything like it that potentially could staunch the flow of capital straight into the one percent's accounts. *This is just my opinion*

Scripting in FO4 the same as in Skyrim?
Fkemman11 replied to Fkemman11's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
Thank you. I honestly don't know what most of that means since I've barely tried doing any, but it is good to know they aren't that different from game to game. -
Without reading too much here (sorry op), I'd say we're all already actors on the stage of life. And since we 'actors' are greedy and envious at times due to human nature, only respect keeps us/them not taking from others. And... the only way to get respect is through doubt (doubt that they can take your stuff) or fear (fear that they even trying will end very badly for them). So... to answer the question as succinctly as possible; "There will always be wars and rumors of war" - source redacted due to rules.

I don't see mankind going to the stars any time soon..... Nor do I see us leaving behind our bad habits. I expect that all we will do is expand the scope of our wars, and find other planets to spoil. That is, IF we survive long enough to make it that far. At this point, I am not holding my breath..... Of course, there is also the real possibility that the development of a workable FTL drive, something that makes exploring other stars practical.... Might just bring the world population together..... Agree. That would change things significantly and then everyone can go their merry separate ways and find something else to do rather than fighting petty wars for dominance over one tiny planet. It would be such a travesty for us to arbitrarily obliterate ourselves near the dawn of exploration and discovery the likes of which we have never known.

Violence is not inherent in human nature like so many believe it is. For instance, Native Americans learned many of their more brutal tactics from Europeans like scalping. Before that it is chronicled that, though tribes did occasionally fight each other mostly in skirmishes to test strength (think sparring matches), they respected each other and lived in peace. Even hitting each other with a closed fist was something they learned from us and they certainly didn't kill for any other reason than to survive (and typically did not kill each other). They shared the land, tried to live in harmony with it, and were careful to hunt and fish only what they needed. In fact, the concept of land ownership had never been heard of before European arrival because they were nomads. Hatred and war is a disease of the heart and mind that propagates itself indiscriminately. And like any other disease, the best defense is isolation from it by some natural barrier (like an ocean or space). Quite simply...if we are to survive as a species, we must start over somewhere new and isolated from old world hatred so that we break the cycle of violence forever. And yes, that means cutting all ties with whatever is left here on Earth and forgetting (leaving behind/erasing) all our often malicious and brutal history. It will happen if we survive long enough. Too many ppl see the inevitable downfall of this world and want to escape it. :geek:
-
Meh... never mind. What'll happen will happen. :geek:
-
Do you think things will escalate to a major conflict between world powers? And how severe if it does? But please refrain from any biased propaganda as this is deadly serious. Thank you.

Bro, I could totally live in a Fallout world. I actually like sifting through the skeletons of a totally decadent and backwards society that destroyed itself. I don't even feel like a part of the human race anymore because I can see that all we're ever going to do is fight each other constantly. We deserve to be extinct. Let the good times roll, baby! :D
