  1. A 1080ti might be pushing it a little for your CPU The 1080ti is also getting outrageously expensive lately and really unavailable. A regular 1080 might be a better choice right now.
  2. Currently there really isn't any "cheap" DDR4. All the prices have been inflated for RAM for quite a long while now sadly. SSD's are getting a little bit less expensive now so RAM prices should follow hopefully. But the industry is getting screwed up by the miners, by June RAM might be cheaper an Ryzen 2 might be out but you probably can't get any decent video cards by then.
  3. I bought this one, https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AX370-Gaming-K5-rev-10#kf It hasn't failed me yet it seems to be very stable with 16GB of corsair dominator 3000mhz RAM The only thing it doesn't have is a front usb-c header. I also used, https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350M-MORTAR-ARCTIC.html But this was very slow to POST even after several UEFI-updates.
  4. You would need a new motherboard and new RAM yes.
  5. The CPU-cooler isn't that good, I'm a fan of a good air cooler myself. The 1080ti is the reference/founders card. they are louder and run hotter, be prepared to hear it if you get it. They don't list the model and make of that PSU and it seems pretty cheap, a better quality 550 or 650 WATT model is a better choice.
  6. I second that from experience, a 1080 not enough for 4k you need a 1080ti The CyberpowerPC you linked looks good, but is that really a stock intel heatsink? That will not cool an 8700k
  7. If you can't install drivers in 2018 you shoudn't own a computer, this might have applied in windows 9x Paying 800$ for a 600$ computer without a SSD is not good value
  8. Was that a serious suggestion? Virtually all Intel processors made since 1995 have this potential issue. And right now it is only a potential issue, since neither of these exploits has been seen or reported in the wild. Also from what I've read both issues are simple memory read access exploits, they can at most see passwords and other sensitive data, not change or delete it. If this is incorrect I hope someone else chimes in. From the information I have read at this time, the patch for meltdown will cost between 5 and 30% percent in raw power it is not fully known what the impact will be on gaming as INTEL showed some post patch gaming benchmarks but none of them used the DirectX API. This guy says it is no problem for gaming
  9. If you are only going to play games the 32gb is enormous overkill. Also alienware is expensive for what you get.
  10. At 4k the processor doesn't really matter that much as the GPUs are the bottleneck. but the 8700k only has 16 PCIe-lanes although it would't really make a lot of difference. But generally the whole HEDT platform from Intel is a bit useless for gaming now, when I bought my 3930k it made sense because at 4ghz it still will be a good chip for two years. But I just don't see that value in the socket 2066 platform.
  11. That is such a cheap case https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854056 Much better  And if that isn't enough you could always go for a core i9 with 18c/36t
  12. To be honest the GTX1060 6GB is cheaper and faster than the RX580. So unless you have a freesync monitor go for the 1060
  13. Socket 1151 and exclusively on z370 chipsets. The GTX1070 might just be a little to much for the 3770 but it shouldn't be a huge bottleneck.
  14. That all depends on the resolution and refresh-rate you want to game on. But for a 4k rig it is 8700k/1800x and GTX1080ti and 16Gb of RAM
  15. The first thing I like to do with a new laptop is reinstalling windows. That is usually the only way to get rid of the oem's programs.
  16. The worst thing is when you buy a gt710 there is all kinds of gaming marketing on the box, you only buy one if you don't have an igpu. I bought one because when i went to the store to buy a vga to hdmi adapter the gt70 was cheaper. What i5 do you have now? maybe you could fit a half height gtx1050ti https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-4GT-LP.html
  17. You might want to look in to the warranty for different brands. When I bought my dell 1440p monitor five years ago, dell had a 100% pixel guarantee. The 1440p IPS panels all come from the same factory and you can tell which quality you get by the price and pixel guarantee.
  18. 1920*1080 on a 27 inch monitor looks horrible. The second monitor you linked looks really good.
  19. What will be the main use? Do you want an ultra-wide, g-sync or 4k monitor? I recently bought the LG 27UD68-p 4k monitor and I love it. Your GPU can't handle 4k though A nice 1440p monitor might be the best option.
  20. If you could upgrade your CPU to a quad-core with hyper threading you would be set for the next couple of years. You should keep your eyes peeled for a second hand XEON like this, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/intel-Original-E3-1271V3-E3-1271-V3-E3-1271-V3-CPU-Processor-3-6G-1150pin-80W/32816432234.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_10152_10065_10151_10344_10068_10345_10342_10343_10340_10341_10541_10562_10084_10083_10304_10307_5680011_10301_10177_10060_10155_10154_10539_10312_10059_10313_10314_10534_10533_100031_10103_10073_10594_10557_10596_10595_10142_10107,searchweb201603_25,ppcSwitch_2&btsid=1174d010-d19f-4f69-8c7b-a90535ac2b96&algo_expid=a50655b6-fa34-4fea-ba36-03b955f31783-1&algo_pvid=a50655b6-fa34-4fea-ba36-03b955f31783&rmStoreLevelAB=0 They are still a little expensive now but if they drop in price like the previous generations they'll be a viable upgrade soon.
  21. That's disappointing to hear about Volta. I know that GPU's can handle large amount of heat. However, I do firmly believe you shouldn't be operating them at those temperatures all of the time if you care about the longevity of your components. The fact that your old GPU rand at 100C's all day is fairly concerning as well, as that is abnormally hot. Did you have any case fans installed at all? I'm mildly curious what sort of conditions you need to have in order to reach temperatures that high. I The 6990 is an AMD dual GPU card, I run it at the fully unlocked mode. The card pulls over 450watts in this mode. It runs on my open test-bench which doesn't help and it has had the original special TIM removed by the previous owner. I just checked I also have a 6990 that is in way better condition at this only gets to 85c. I guess the other one is in even worse condition than I thought My 4870x2 gets hotter although it could use a little tlc. I also have an 5970 but I haven't tested it properly yet. I am a graphics card hoarder.
  22. Sadly last I heard volta won't be the next generation, nvidia will refresh the current generation simply because there is no competition. Also 80c is nothing for a graphics card I've got an old HD6990 here that does 100c all day, if I get cold I just run a couple of benchmarks on it.
  23. It all depends on which version you get, the founders/reference edition is probably set to a fan-curve that keeps it at around 80c. I have not heard about them failing at all. Blower style coolers are usually a little louder but they work better in a case with restricted airflow Which 1060 do you plan on buying?
