Download memtest, burn it to a disc, and run it. Allow at least four passes, just to make sure things get good and warm. See what happens. It does sound like heat, or inadequate PSU though.....

Yes, the prices for intel processors are way to high at the moment. AMD is the way to go at the moment. If you go with new hardware, yes. But, get stuff a generation or three older, and it's dirt cheap.

Niche Topic: OpenVPN Obfuscation
HeyYou replied to RobinHood2005's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Oh, alright. So does it help at all to prevent sites that recognize and block VPN servers from doing so? (E.g. 4Chan, etc.) No, because you would be using a VPN server...... -
Niche Topic: OpenVPN Obfuscation
HeyYou replied to RobinHood2005's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Basically, its very similar to just using a proxy server to surf the web, difference being, the connection between you and the proxy is encrypted. Downside is, it slows your connection. If you don't have a real need for that tight of security, then there really is no need for it. -
No. you don't need to. No clue why he mentioned that..... Also, no, you don't need to remove any of your other mods to make a new one. Are you familiar with dependencies? Only load the files that you actually NEED for your mod. (skyrim.esm, maybe some of the DLC's, depending on what you are doing......) Check the link in my sig. We have classes there for modding skyrim. It will get you started, teach you the basics of what you need to know, and get you familiar with the CS, and how things work.

Apparently for me, it's Heroes of Might and Magic 3..... I got it when it came out, and it is still installed on my machine, and I still play it....... Of course, it has been thru several computers...... :D

Happy to be of service. :D

Well, the problem is.... First, you just want it to run Skyrim. Then, you get introduced to the wonderful world of mods. :) Then, you need a meaner machine to run your modded skyrim. But, once you have the meaner machine, you add more mods... It's a vicious circle I tell ya. Beth is in cahoots with the hardware manufacturers to sell high-zoot computer parts...... Ok, not really. But, pretty close. :) What you really want, is an intel i5, at 3.0ghz or better, and at least a GTX 1050 (more vram the better), or better, minimum 4gb RAM, 8 would be better. i7 processor would be better, but, see what they have on the used market at the shop, and maybe just stuff in more ram, and a better vid card. I am still running Skyrim on an old AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black..... (around nine years old.) Runs fine. I even run Fallout 4 on the same machine, and it runs great too. Yes, I have upgraded my vid card over the years, currently running an Nvidia GTX 1060, 6gb ram. I don't do 'prettification' mods though. (high res textures and such) They tend to beat up the vid card.

Fallout New Vegas Memory/Texture Issues
HeyYou replied to RobinHood2005's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
How many of them are texture mods? I noticed that a fair few of the folks talking about black textures also stated the game was running out of VRAM. Since the games is 32bit..... it takes a patch to get it to use 4gb. And even then, it won't really ever use the full 4. I don't know if vram is included in that total either..... -
Fallout New Vegas Memory/Texture Issues
HeyYou replied to RobinHood2005's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
I thought there was a 'fix' for the black textures at one point? Seems to me, that was some variety of engine bug? Been a while, so, I may be remembering wrong..... Edit: Ok, after doing some checking around, seems it was a driver issue with Nvidia cards? One guy fixed it by rolling back his driver. Of course, that was two years ago.... so, I suspect you might have to roll back quite a ways.... and that would likely cause other fun issues. -
Ooohhh, that's nice. :)

Fallout New Vegas Memory/Texture Issues
HeyYou replied to RobinHood2005's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Do you have textures turning black at some specific distance, or if you look at them at an angle? Do they pop in and out as you move/turn your head? -
That's kind of my point though. It's subjective. What is magic to us years ago is no longer. What may be magic to us today may not be in the future. In fact what may not be magic to some of us today, may still be to others. Furthermore I've seen some amazing advances in the field of medicine and I understand generally how it works. Does that make it any less magical just because I know how it works? Maybe, but maybe not. To some people, that jeep may still be magical even in this era. To some people from the 1800's, that jeep may not be magical even if it is to most of their peers. Sure, they don't understand it. But they might assume there is a science behind it rather than magic. What is considered "Sufficiently advanced" to be "magical" is subjective and a lack of understanding may not necessarily lead to the assumption of magic. Understanding may not mean that it isn't magic. In this case I could argue that all technology is "sufficiently advanced" to someone, and therefor all technology can be considered magic. I agree, perspective has a LOT to do with it.... We consider ourselves an 'advanced' civilization, but, are we really? The only thing we have to compare ourselves to, is our own history. So, in that sense, yes indeed, we have come a long way. Now, some alien sitting in his interstellar craft, looking down on our 'crude' rockets, would likely have a different opinion on that. :) And in that same vein, the tribals that live isolated on some little island, that just used bows/arrows to kill an 'invader' (stupid american) would look at our society, and technology, and swear up and down that it is indeed 'magic'. :)

Erm, no. You don't need premium to download from here.... Millions of folks do it on a regular basis. What exactly does premium do? It's never been made clear to me. No ads, better download speeds, and a few other perks. I think download history since the beginning of time, is one of them. (for us regular folks, it's just a couple months, or something.)

A lot of your information is inaccurate at best. Even if humans detonated every nuclear weapon we have, the world will still be here. May not be much life left, but, earth itself will go on. (and the cockroaches will thrive.....) The NRA doesn't sell weapons. They simply support the second amendment to our constitution. I would also point out that gun laws don't make you safe. If you remove a few cities from the statistics, (chicago, baltimore, detroit, New Orleans, and Los Angeles..... all cities run by democrats, with rather strict gun laws......) the crime rate in the us would be lower than most of europe. A lot also depends on just where you happen to be. I can walk outside any time, day or not, with absolutely zero fear of someone robbing/stabbing/shooting me. South side of Chicago? Not so much...... The MAJORITY of the country IS pretty darn safe. There are just a few specific, extremely high-crime areas, that bring the stats down. As for our government here in the US, yeah, they are indeed bought and paid for by the 'special interests'. It has been described as "The best government money can buy." And that is, unfortunately, all to accurate. It would be nice to get the money OUT of the equation, but, the only people that can achieve that, are the very same people that benefit most from NOT changing it. I have seen politicians run on a platform of 'campaign finance reform', but, once elected, nothing happens. Why? Because ONE person cannot change a problem that has been ingrained in the system by the majority of participants for decades. So, I don't expect that to EVER change. (short of a second revolution......) Trump really isn't any different than any of his predecessors. He made promises to get elected, perhaps he even had every intention of keeping those promises.... (or, maybe he didn't expect to actually WIN???) but, once in office, very few of those promises are likely to ever see the light of day. He was going to pull us out of Afghanistan, but, got talked out of it.... Ostensibly for reasons of 'national security'..... But, we didn't have a presence there for centuries, and our national security was not compromised. Folks point at "a haven for terrorism'.... But, what is it now? One giant terrorist training ground, complete with real americans to shoot at, blow up, whathaveyou. We are accomplishing nothing. Just like every other would-be conqueror before us. Quite frankly, our government sucks. They are in the business of government.... and like any business, their goal is to make money. Apparently, it works pretty well, as if they aren't wealthy when they first get elected to office, they most certainly are by the end of their first term....... It is indeed the 1% running this country. They buy and sell politicians right along with their stocks on the stock market. Dems, Repubbies, they are all the same. None of them are honest, none of them have AMERICA's best interests at heart, they are in it for themselves, and their wallet. That's it.

If you took a modern jeep back to the early 1800's, (or earlier) you would be in serious danger of being burned as a witch. :) The 'lack of understanding' IS what separates magic, from technology. Granted, it would take a lot more to impress us in this day and age, as we are not quite so superstitious as we once were..... (for the most part.....) There was an episode of Babylon 5 that addressed this issue a bit. The 'techno-mage'. :D

Fallout New Vegas Broken Forever
HeyYou replied to XxNightAngelusxX's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Uninstall the game thru 'programs and features'. Manually nuke the install directory, the directory in "My Games", and the directory in App Data. (will have to enable 'show hidden files/folders' for that one.) Empty your recycle bin, reboot. Now, install the game. JUST the game. (any dlc you also own is fine) NO MODS. NONE. ZERO. See if the game will now run. Something else to consider: If you can, install the game someplace other than the Program Files folder.... That's a protected folder, and Windows gets upset when you play in there. -
Poor performance on a new gaming PC?
HeyYou replied to Deleted48155638User's topic in Hardware and software discussion
So you consider a score that is an average of all the scores of the CPU benchmark from Passmark to be an actual indicator of how well it can play games? Passmark doesn't test games, so I guess actual benchmarks done with actual games means nothing to you. By your own standards I could post this and you lose your own argument. Any person could search for benchmarks on the i3-8350k and see it is a good gaming CPU. No. I it isn't. There is no such thing as a "Gaming" i3. They simply aren't designed for that. It's intels low-level (but, not lowest) processor. I build machines for a living, and even my least informed customers would look at me sideways, and walk out, if I suggested an i3 for a gaming machine. The price/performance value simply isn't there. -
Anyone else has caravan guards airing their privates?
HeyYou replied to cossayos's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Yeah, I saw that too..... Imagine my surprise when I have a boatload of naked traders..... (well, in their undies.....) -
And this is why I NEVER give 'companions' area of effect' weapons. (grenades and rocket launchers being right at the top of the list.......) Of course, I don't like companions in any event. They tend to get in the way, and cause more problems than they are worth.

Poor performance on a new gaming PC?
HeyYou replied to Deleted48155638User's topic in Hardware and software discussion
A possible reason your system is slow on games is that you likely installed them to your 1TB drive, and if it's pre-built, it might one of the re-branded Green drives that are 5400RPM; the Blue series were "historically" 7200RPM but now come in both 7200 and 5400RPM. *Edit* Newegg and Amazon have the Samsung 860 Evo 1TB for $128 right now on sale. I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic, but that i3-8350k is essentially a rebranded i5-7600k (quad-core at 3.8Ghz) Have a look here. I do not consider that a 'gaming' cpu....... considering it rates worse than a THIRD gen i5........
