    Veterans day

It's actually been unseasonably 'warm' (for certain values thereof) here. High 30's, low 40's (F). Of course, I don't expect that to last much longer..... Hasn't snowed yet.... supposed to rain tomorrow...... Not what I generally expect for this time of year... but, it's Micigan. Don't like the weather? Wait five minutes, it'll change. :D
  2. LOL! Same for myself. Iv'e got a big mouth and tend to say much more than needed many times. You know, my brain is screaming "SHUT UP!!" and the mouth just keeps going. Thanks for the laugh. @ Aurielius- I know what you mean. As mentioned, I have a tendency to say to much sometimes, possibly giving personal info a little. Identity theft and stuff is what I worry about. Although the technology for androids is progressing pretty fast, some angry poster gets my address and sends HK-47 to take me out! @ Skagens- I understand what you mean. I typically avoid convos with the local wildlife where I live because they are all wrapped up in the here and now- never pondering the why or how of life. It's not so much that I worry what anyone thinks of me, they just don't get me or some of what I say. When I stray to far off "How bout' the weather?", ppl in my town just look at me sideways. Although the local college is a little better. I'm simply getting old enough that people becoming but-hurt over something I say doesn't matter much to me if I didn't mean it to be offensive to begin with. But I'm that way face to face as well.... You are most welcome. It's getting to the point that it simply doesn't matter WHAT you say, someone will find a way to be offended by it....... That seems like WAY too much work for me, so, I take what people say at face value, and fully EXPECT that some folks are going to have different opinions than me. It's truly unfortunate that there are so many folks out there that when the come across someone that doesn't agree with them 100% (inevitable....) they start calling them names, accusing them of all sorts of heinous behavior, etc..... A lot like politics in the US these days........ Makes me want to jump in the ol' time machine, and go back to the 50's....... I am also very careful about what kind/how much personal information I give away on the net....... But, it's quite likely that folks could come up with just about everything they wanted to know with a simple google search. I can already find WAY more information about myself on the net, than I have EVER put out there myself..... I find it..... disturbing...... Oh well. Welcome to the information age. :D

There's not much you can do against the heat. I'm from the southern part of US and I will take the heat any time over cold. I do like snow though. But I grew up running around barefoot on pavement hot enough to cook an egg. Summer is and will always be my favorite time of year. Hug a veteran next time u meet one- and give him/her a good job already! Combat skills don't translate well into the civilian sector. Due to health problems, heat doesn't do me any favors either. :) I want to live somewhere that it is mid 70's-low 80's every day, with little humidity. :D Yeah, that's gonna happen......
  4. I am pretty much the same idiot in person, as I am on the internet. :D

    Veterans day

But winter is the most amazing season! You can prevent the cold by wearing thicker layer of clothing, or chug some of that hot chocolate. There's not much you can do against the heat. I would assume cutting trees alone would keep you warm enough. I will grant you that Winter CAN be beautiful...... but, of late, we haven't even been getting much snow. (I blame that on the snowblower that I bought for my tractor four years ago, and have used a grand total of three times since then.... as we just don't get much snow......) I just hate the cold in general. :) I got out of the automotive field, and went in to computers, simply so that I could work in a climate controlled environment. Now I am retired, and just kinda 'poke at' stuff that people are willing to throw money at me for. (It was plumbing on sunday...... that was fun.) Yep, I am quite mercenary, I'll do damn near anything if the money/benefits are right. (and sometimes, all it requires is a good meal. :) )
  6. I'm not going to disable my ad-blocker for The onion...... Over the years, I have noted that Europeans have a totally different attitude toward guns than most americans. Having grown up in a society where guns are a rarity, they don't seem to be able to grasp what it means to have grown up in a society where guns are more than simply common, they are everywhere. Still and all, even WITH our mass-shootings, our violent crime rate isn't as bad as some other first-world nations....... And if you drop a select few cities, where gang crime accounts for most murders in the us...... we drop even further down the list. It ISN'T JUST guns, and we are not the only country having to deal with this. Granted, it makes the news more often here, but, even in countries where it is almost impossible to get a gun, it still happens.

Yep. Happy Veterans day! And a big THANK YOU to all that served. I had to work today..... cuttin' trees..... outside..... in the COLD...... Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE winter?
  9. There was one on Beth.net, but, apparently, it wasn't set up correctly, no clue if it is still there, or if it was ever fixed.
  10. I have a specific folder just to download mods to, and then install when the mood strikes me. Keeps my desktop clean, and doesn't clog my downloads folder.
  11. It's more about convenience, than saving money..... Initially, the introduced the service with lower pricing, to get folks to try it/get used to it. Then, once folks decided they liked the ease and simplicity of ordering online, and just having the stuff 'show up', they raised their prices to increase the profit margin. Just a standard marketing trick.
  12. A fair few of their statistics are skewed, to say the least. Note that they only include GUN CRIME in their figures..... If you look at ALL violent crime, the story changes dramatically, and the US ranks about 99th out of 193 countries. But then, it's the New York times...... and they are only *slightly* biased.......
  13. Nope. Police REACT to crimes, they do not prevent it. Always remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away....... Whattaya wanna bet some of 'em start carryin' to church.........
  14. I'm not advocating tougher gun laws really. I and basically everyone I know have several. All I am trying to figure out is why these nut-jobs do this kind of crap! It's not like he needed more than a pistol for revenge on someone- why gun down a church full of men, women and children that have nothing to do with anything? It doesn't make a bit of sense! Aside from "tougher" gun laws that do not seem to deter any extreme homicidal sociopath, what could be done to help prevent this kind of thing in the future? I think that the real answer as to why people do horrific things is that there is such a thing as evil. He was a coward who only could gun down unarmed people but fled once he was on the receiving end. I frankly cannot wrap my head around the mind set that makes killing innocents OK . It should be pointed out if the AF had reported to the national database his egregious domestic abuse that lead to his dishonorable discharge he might not have been able to buy a gun legally anywhere. One correction: he manged one of his purchases in Texas. Mea Culpa..I should have checked the accuracy of my facts before posting. That may all well be the case.... but, why is evil becoming so prevalent in todays society? At least this guy had the decency to get dead, instead of costing us millions more in court and incarceration costs....... and we don't have to hear about his 'traumatic' childhood that brought him to this act...... (and hence, shouldn't get the death penalty.....) I think we have just become far to permissive.......
  15. The Air Force didn't report his conviction to the FBI, otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to purchase weapons. From what I have read..... Some relation of his (grandmother???) or his wifes relation.... attended that church, and was one of the people that was killed. So, apparently, his motivation was getting back at his wife, or some such, and the rest were collateral damage. (being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.) It DOES seem we are seeing these kinds of incidents MUCH more frequently........ I see it as a sign of our society breaking down at an ever accelerating pace.

    KFC

Well, it's not like these are the kinds of places that draw high quality talent........
  17. Our policy on NK hasn't changed in 70 years, and so far as I know, we have no intentions of invading..... else we would have long ago. There have been several occasions that have presented a golden opportunity to invade while there were internal issues, but, we haven't. (no oil in NK, what would be the point of invading.....) We really don't have the resources, or the will, to start yet another war. That would pretty much spell death for the current administration. On the other hand, if we are reacting to an aggressive act, that might be a different story.
  18. Hi Zoey. :) I have a granddaughter with the same name. :) Congrats. You have fallen into the pit that is know as 'game modding'. As you have found, it is HIGHLY addictive, and yes, you spend more time tweaking on your game, and load list, than you do actually playing....... Nice to see ya hereabouts. :D
  19. Indeed, lil Kim needs to go. Along with most of the leadership of NK. What happens after that, is up to what's left.
  20. What hardware are you trying to run the game on?
  21. Unless we permit lil kim to retain his nuclear weapons, we will ever be the boogeyman for them. Not to mention that lil kim uses the "evil USA" as a whipping boy for why his country is in such dire straights... (with his own population) Going on past behavior of three generations of kims, giving in to his demands, concessions in any form, are pretty much any other kind of deal, won't last any longer than the next time kim wants something more. It has been a vicious cycle since 1953, I don't expect THAT to change either. That would suggest to me that NO deal we can make with NK, with kim in charge, is going to last any longer than any of the others did. (six months to a year.... then, right back to the same ol shlock) On the other hand..... If we simply remove the bests head, and most of the neck..... and then let the NK people decide what to do from there.... perhaps they will install a government that is a little less antagonistic.... or not. :D (and by "let the NK people decide", I mean, we blast the leadership, and we are done. No invasion, no rebuilding, no aid, not a single thin dime of american taxpayer money.)
  22. NK had China backing them for the last 70 years..... SK had the US backing them. Please note which area is in better condition....... NK could be in pretty much the same state as SK, if China had had the will to make it so. Instead, NK is the neglected step-child, that is used to concentrate the ire of the neighbors away from the true source.
  23. This ain't the country I grew up in. It's barely even recognizable. Unfortunately, I don't see the path changing, short of some MAJOR disaster/war.

    KFC

I stopped eating at KFC years ago, simply because their food pretty much guaranteed that I would be sick for a couple days afterwards..... I love my mashed potatoes though. :) We put garlic, and onion in ours as well.
