  1. In my experience Fallout 4 is not optimized very well and even my old machine which ran Skyrim with maxed settings, ENB and 2k textures struggled to run Fallout 4 in the center of Boston. From what I have heard, even people with the best hardware have problems with the game sometimes.
  2. gamefever is right. Install the Fallout 4 vanilla on your new HDD from Steam. Run the game once. Go back into Steam and turn off automatic updates. Then you need to copy over your entire Fallout 4 directory, not just the data folder. You also need to copy over (HDD):\Users\(Name)\AppData\Local\Fallout4 which includes things like plugin.txt (that's what NMM edits when you install .esp mods) as well as (HDD):\Users\(Name)\Documents\My Games\Fallout4
  3. ok, NMM just helps install mods. Most mods simply put a file in your Data folder which overrides the game's own files. Often when mods are "uninstalled" these loose files can get left behind in the data folder. Verifying data just makes sure your vanilla data is in tact, it's not removing these extra loose files. Take some time to check out your games Data folder in Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data where you will see folders called Textures, Meshes etc. These folders override the game's vanilla files which are compressed in a format called ".bsa" or ".ba2" etc. Btw, never delete these .bsa/.ba2 files. Long story short, deleting the Meshes and Texture folders will ensure removal of this mod data you have installed
  4. My advice is set your Steam client not to auto update and roll back your game to a previous version using older files from a month ago.
  5. I'm a non-smoker/non-vaper and from everything I've seen, vaping seems like a much better alternative to smoking. I can't agree with the prohibitionists who seem hard set on demonizing vaping and getting it banned. The fact that I can be in a closed room with a vaper and not feel like dying is a huge improvement, especially in the music community. In the early 2000s I was singing quite a bit with bands at concert venues around Detroit where smoking was still legal. After 30/60 minutes of heavily inhaling second hand smoke I would develop flu like symptoms over the following days, making back to back performances impossible. Several band members would smoke at rehearsal which made it hard to breath in an enclosed space and our gear was constantly getting ash/residue on it. Currently I rehearse at a space in North LA and both the keyboardist and drummer vape in our room, there's no problem, no coughing, no bad smell or residue. I don't mind it at all. No more flu like feeling after a gig. The one downside is that sometimes during performances half the crowd will be out in the smoking section :/ All the more reason to allow vaping in public spaces.
  6. I installed this today manually, chose each option without a manager (naturally would be better once the images are renamed) and it seems to work well. Looks great, thank you :) Looking forward to further progress.
  7. I'm sorry but that doesn't add up. Under the ACA I was able to get my girlfriend insured last year through medicaid. She had developed a disability, is 100% covered, and pays $0. It's great. Same with my sister who had breast cancer and is on medicaid. I myself purchase health insurance through my work for about $60 a month on an HMO. I have a $20 visit copay, $500 hospital copay and 100% coverage on preventative care. It's not perfect but it's ok. So I'm sorry, I'm just not buying your ACA horror story. It's helped everyone I know. I'm not saying the ACA is perfect or a god send, but I'm saying it was a step in the right direction and literally made 10 million people's lives better than it was pre-ACA. I agree there is a better solution. In this nation we provide police, fire, military and schooling to all our citizens for their tax contributions. It's time we extend that to healthcare. We need a single payer system that provides for everyone. It's ridiculous that we are the only major country that does not do this and have one foot left in the 20th century until we do so.
  8. I find fascists offensive and that's what these people are, they want to tell me what I can say, what I can think, they're racist, they're sexist and will quite happily engage in homophobic attacks if their target holds a different opinion to them, in fact they're all the things they claim others are, if there's one thing the left is good at it's projecting. These people aren't campaigning for social justice, they're campaigning to force their agenda onto other people, they're self serving hypocrites. Jim, who are "these" people? Is there an official SJW political party I'm unfamiliar with? Or are these just further hyperbolic statements projected onto an imaginary adversary to promote your worldview? I would point out, that the ACA did more to screw up insurance coverage, than it did to help anyone. Rates have skyrocketed with the enactment of the ACA, and folks are now given a choice of paying for their healthcare coverage, or buying food. I have real issues with the government REQUIRING me to purchase a product from a private industry. Except 10 million people who now have coverage that didn't before, and anyone 19-26 years old, and anyone with an existing condition... so um, yeah it did help lots of people. The individual mandate has problems but we are a lot better off post ACA then before... and by we I mean millions of Americans who couldn't afford health care and now can. I haven't met any of these folks choosing between healthcare and food. Where are they and why aren't they buying insurance on their state's market which generally offers very reasonable rates?
  9. I'm so sorry your life and the life of your partner must be subject to this frightening uncertainty thanks to a mob of ignorant bigots. If you have your youth, strongly consider Canada. Any country really that has a sense of common human decency. I'm sorry, but we're all of out of that stuff apparently. Most of these countries have a NHS or equivalent, America being a notable exception. Thank you, it helps just knowing some people care. She has Lupus and at times cannot even walk. We had to try hard for months just to get Medicaid and she is finally walking again thanks to medication. There were days I literally carried her or pushed her in a cart so that we could do simple things together like going down the street or the grocery store and she's only 23. While I worry for us, I worry more for the people who's families are going to be ripped apart by deportations. I hope for a peaceful resolution to all of this...
  10. Well I'm wondering now how long it will be until I lose my home due to medical bills from my disabled partner once she loses her medicaid when Trump repeals the Affordable Care act. I see people celebrating Trump's victory and I'm literally worrying about losing our home and health. Where is the justice in that? People want to "make America great again" at the cost of people literally becoming sick, being rounded up or kicked out. This isn't an America I can believe in -_-
  11. It's conservative backlash from 8 years of Obama. Meanwhile liberals and moderates were very untrusting of Clinton. The Democrats set themselves up for failure by providing a controversial candidate who could not unify their voting base. All Republicans had to do was supply a male candidate with conservative views. They could have had Mr. McGoo run as Republican for president and he would have won.
  12. Buy a 250-500gb SSD for your Windows and gaming installations. Use an additional 1TB HDD for your music, photos, movies etc.
  13. The E5-1650 V3 is nothing less than a 5930K with ECC support. It is a 6 core, 12 thread 22nm Haswell-E chip with 40 PCI-e lanes. Still very modern and not a problem "for gaming." If you have a consumer X99 board, chances are you can even overclock it, as all samples I have seen have been unlocked. I'm not bull-s***ing you, typing to you from an E5-1650 V3 @ 4.4 GHz with ECC ram on an X99-E WS. Single thread should be the same if not better than a Skylake 6700K at those speeds. OP has a really good chip "for gaming" if you just tweak it a bit. 4.0 GHz should be doable at stock voltage. And yeah, first post, just saw "E5-1650 V3" which is a hidden gem of a CPU. Great first post! Well like I said it is better than my outdated i7 950 @ 3.07GHz which it replaced. Can you recommend how to tweak my CPU for better performance? I've never tried that before.
  14. Dear friends! A workaround for now is to go to your Nexus preferences page and change your "Favourite download location" to "CDN". Seems to have solved the problem for me for now. Thanks to Mystolle for the idea!
  15. I'm trying to download this file: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16987/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D16987&pUp=1 And when I click on "download manually" the server selection pops up, but then before the file downloads I am redirected to http://www.nexusmods.com/games/? Strange... never had this happen before. Premium Dallas server btw.
  16. Wow, NMM and MO merging? This is great news going forward. I've always been happy with what Robin does with this community and I'm continually surprised by how well the Nexus is managed. :)
  17. The GTX1070 is a great card and will be a significant improvement over your GTX960. If money is an issue I can also recommend the GTX1060 6gb which is available for about $250. Of course, the 1070 is much better but it depends on if you have an extra $100 to spend. With a 1070 you could most likely run max+ENB without any problems. In my opinion, SLI is not worth the money and is not always supported on every game. SLI does not double performance but does double the cost. You are much better off buying the most powerful single card you can afford.
  18. Why does every weapon mod on the (FO)Nexus contain some new modder/vintage highly detailed gun who's damage is completely unbalanced compared to vanilla guns and comes complete with a leveled list .esp as if we were going to download their gun and use it as our sole custom weapon mod added to our leveled lists? So now new kewl gun mod is unusable because a. it's OP and b. it's .esp isn't compatible with all the other 1000 special snowflake gun mods which did the same thing. So here is a question... is there a modder which has tackled this dilemma by balancing mod weapon damage and created a merged leveled lists so that all these snowflake mods could actually combine to add *many* new guns/weapons to the game? Wtf is the point of *Standalone* gun after standalone gun mod here??
  19. So a little update, I recently got my hands on some newer hardware (second hand), My "new" system has: 16gb ddr4 ram Intel Xeon e5-1650 v3 3.5ghz EVGA GTX 1060 6gb So much better than my previous build... and guess what? FO4 in downtown Boston still runs like crap and drops framerates down to slideshow speed. That is with shadowboost enabled etc. My conclusion is that Bethesda has serious design flaws with FO4 exteriors which are multiplied on weaker systems. Stronger systems can reduce these problems but not solve them completely. They probably never fixed it because in the vanilla unmodded game, these issues are not as obvious. Once you start adding ENB etc it starts to fall apart. For now I'm pretty happy with my "new" system as it runs great otherwise.
  20. Seems like there isn't a good solution. The enemies of the commonwealth are far too static. Every time you visit Gorski cabin you get attacked by 3-5 feral ghouls. Every time you visit the Super Duper Mart you get attacked by the same ghouls. Wouldn't it be nice if you were surprised by Super Mutants there instead sometimes?
  21. If you're like me you have beaten the main quest a few times and are on your 20th vault 101 survivor character. At this point the game is pretty boring. You know that Bloat Flies and Radroaches attack in Sanctuary, then there's that dog across the river, molerats at the Red Rocket, the exact location of each Raider in Concord, that bear in the cabin near the rail lines next to the ghouls by the boxcars with the mines etc etc. So is there a mod which adds truly random encounters to the game to spice things up? Is there some way to make the game more interesting to a player that's seen 75% of the content and knows all the spawn points? I feel like Arnold in Last Action hero "There's always a guy in the closet". Thanks.
  22. This is idiotic. Protests are meant to show a sign of solidarity against an institutionalized wrong. Black on black crime is not institutionalized. Black on black crime is symptomatic of the poverty and injustice which black people have faced for 300 years in the United States. You don't stop black on black crime my protesting other black people, you stop it by enriching your community and improving those people's lives who resort to violence. White police officer's lives do not need to be improved. You stop white on black crime by protesting against those committing it, namely, the government ei white people ei police officers. Hey You are you being a typical privileged white person with that comment.
  23. So I ended up waiting and just purchased and installed a EVGA GTX 1060 SC 6gb for $250. Huge improvement in FPS for a small investment and is dx12 ready if I ever feel the need to switch to Win10. From what I hear these cards are on par with the GTX 980 and cost much less.
