WIP Elf Children

Wow. I'm seriously impressed with all you've done so far and I'm looking forward to the mod's eventual release, I think I'll dump my original clone faced potato monster replacer for this!

One thing that might be worth pointing out is, I think children have proportionally larger heads and larger eyes than adults. Here's a few reference images I thought might help.

As I'm using vanilla assets, just altered so I'm limited on what I can do regarding head size and the positions etc. As for larger eyes, I do have at least 2 eye morphs that are large. Gave one to Aventus the Dark Sacrament kid and it makes him rather creepy looking. That said some of the morphs do look a bit samey, so I might make them bigger.

Great work... and such fast progress! @_@`

Ah, I'm confused about what you mean by the children's clothes and color variants.. hmm. I actually have been working on a children's overhaul, too (quite different though and not as true to lore! OTL``) -- and for their different outfits I've managed to get their color variants to work by using the CK, and not having to duplicate the .nif itself. How I've been doing it is by creating the ARMA, ARMO, TXST and outfit type (forgot what the abbreviation was), then assigning it to a child as his default outfit in their inventory..

Also, I believe that tktk1 allows his assets to be used - and he created a few hairstyles for the boys and girls (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49756/?) if you haven't considered it :D

Hmm maybe it was a mistake on my end. I know when I changed the texture of the outfits it didn't seem to work. I've done it before a few times so I know how to do it.

I've actually managed to create a few new ones using vanilla assets. Assigning hair that looks good without having their hairline model. I've also retextured the child's imperial hairstyle to create a slick back, and short curly for human boys and a pull back into a ponytail using the orc ponytail for the human girls. The elves are easy as I reshaped their heads so that the hair would fit convincingly on it.

Edit: This is what happens when you spend all your free time working on something. Changing the cloth textures in CK does work fine, derp. Also figured out why the facetints weren't working. When I was copying the filepaths from another race, it wasn't copying them properly.

The issue is simple. I'm trying to do everything at once. I might slow down and take it easy from now on and stop trying to rush everything.

There is a mod that add outfits that may fit what you want. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54580/?tab=3&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmodimages%2F%3Fid%3D54580%26user%3D1&pUp=1

I didn't know they where so rash with the kids that much. It would be nice to see more colors and shapes of them. They look like twins.

What you doing is amazing, I hope it will reach a stage where everything works. Thank you for this.

They appear to all be retextures. Which actually shows me what can be done. Might give it a shot myself. I have done a few, such as muddy and worn clothing (can be seen in the Orphanage shot), but nothing so elaborate. Yet.

I've pretty much got the main file done. made an esm version and packed a BSA so it isn't so fiddly. That said, I am far from done. I'm starting to make plugins, such as elf children, Forsworn, Hearthfire DLC and Dragonborn DLC. Once they are all done, then I'll be releasing V1. It might be end of August by the time a releasable version is ready. We'll see.

Everyone loves pics, so here's some.

I bit the bullet and just modified existing hair meshes to create new ones. It was a pain as it messes up the position of the hair (if you've viewed Apachii hair in CK you know what I mean), but copying BSdismemberment info from the original and pasting over the modified in Nifskope fixed it.

Also, from looking at the child files, I got the impression that perhaps children were literally a last minute thing. They are lit just as they are in Fallout, using tangent space normal maps, where as the adult races use object-space normal maps. This is why there is a neck seam on children in certain light.

So I opened up Fallout 3 textures and exported the child head texture and found something quite enlightening.

One of these is the face texture of the male child from Fallout 3. The other is from Skyrim. Can you guess which one is which?

It real that the children textures is really bad. At least the devs tried to make us happy and listen to the players. They added weapons mod for new Vegas and racks and stands, crafting and etc for skyrim. I just hope they took their time.

I love what you did, the orc is my favorite! It nice to see more kids in and from many races. I have never been this thrilled for a mod. I hope the mod comes to a stage you would be happy about and of course bug free.

For anyone wondering if work is still being done on this mod, don't worry because it is.

Here's a short update.

Before I said the main file was nearly done. I've decided to expand on it. First of all, I'm going to attempt to give the Elven and Orc children new voices. This is the first time I've attempted anything like this, and so far adding dialogue has been an interesting experience. The dialogue isn't voiced thus far, as I'm going to be posting on the Voice Actors of Skyrim thread for that. I am worried though, as Orc children in particular will be difficult. In fact it's the Orc children that made me decide to try and add new voice types in the first place. Vanilla child voice coming out an orc sounds ridiculous.

Another thing is I've been testing some ideas regarding making Beast children. I'm going to have to cheat by giving them a custom skeleton and using the vanilla bodies (modified of course) I'm going to see about altering the eye morphs to make them larger hopefully without breaking anything.

Do what you wish until you think enough was done. This mod is becoming better by the weeks and everything you add is great already. More race based voices are going to be a great add on! I want to hear my wood elf kid talk about nature, the high elves being snotty and proud with their parents being dragon born and a dunmer son being rude and cruel!

Will this in any way be compatible with RS children?

At this moment in time, no. I'm also going for a completely different approach. I'm not trying to make something flashy, just give the races a child version that fit in with an unmodified vanilla Skyrim
