NEXUS OR SEXUS? THIS IS THE PROBLEM

Where I live in America you show a boob and they will start throwing holy water on you. On the other hand dismemberment is just fine. Gotta love it don't ya Druuler. ha ha ha

Oh, yeah, just love it lots... >_<

For Fallout it's not that excessive, it's just blood, in combat limbs and other body parts can end up flying around everywhere.

Oh, I understand that game-wise, that sort of thing is not that excessive, I was saying that image-wise I thought it was. If I remember correctly, uploading images containing "excessive gore" is not allowed, at least not in the general Image Share, and I, myself, considered it to be "excessive".

All of the people who said that "just use tag blocking and block authors blah blah blah" are just contributing to the problem. That's like witnessing a crime and just turning a blind eye or ignoring the fact that someone just got beat up and mugged. I completely agree with the OP, and seeing as he/she is a senior member with over 5k posts, that's really saying something. I am a proud woman, and these porn mods are downright offensive. Pornography is great at times, but keep the porn on porn sites, not on game modding sites. I was going to suggest having a secondary Skyrim site or such equivalent that was SPECIFIC to adult-based mods, keeping typical armor/weapon/magic/etc mods on the "safe" portion of the gamesite and tossing all of the abhorrently pornographic mods on the other half. There's almost no age consent for these mods, and parents are getting less and less strict with game ratings, just look at all the squeakers playing Call of Duty and other dumb FPS games (what happened to Rainbow Six?). Some overpriveleged 13 year old kid can just create an account and download all of these mods, and not to go too deep, but stuff like these mods can really mess with someone's brain at that age - I know, it happened to me.

TL;DR: These adult mods are starting to become offensive and politically incorrect.

Was gonna more or less stay out of this because I've been through this argument with the staff once before and it got nowhere fast, but OP's basic premise is more or less correct. Things HAVE gotten out of hand, and Darren is more or less correct with what he's been putting forth as well.

Thing is, every time this has ever come up, Nexus staff seems fine with the fact that it's changed the site's reputation in the wider community. Pretty much anyone you talk to thinks Nexus is where you go to get nude mods and other more explicit material. Which is highly amusing considering the time spent in the past chastising Lovers Lab for having the same stuff. Material shows up on the front pages and in Google searches ALL THE TIME that likely shouldn't be there.

"Tag it so you can't see it" seems to be the only offered solution, so the only thing one can then conclude is that this is where they want the site to go.

The reason we recommend using tag blocking is because to us, these types of mods aren't really a problem. They are a problem to a select few people, and therefore it makes more sense that those few people use tag blocking to remove those mods from their sight rather than the rest of the community having to conform to the morality of a select few people. What is and isn't offensive is most often a very subjective thing, and if a small (but vocal) minority finds things offensive, we are not going to remove those things or hide them away from everyone (either on another site or through a pay-gate). What we will do, however, is ensure that this group of people have a way to hide the things that they find offensive on their own end.

Splitting the site into two parts; one for NSFW and one for SFW files would create a void in between, causing confusion as to where you will find files that could go on both sites. And not to mention how to define NSFW and SFW. Does it include gore, or just nudity? Why? Does it include skimpy clothing, or just complete nudity?

Looking at the Hot Files, it is pretty clear what the majority of the community wants. Take Skyrim for instance; there is currently only one (very) NSFW file there, but it has 24,000 unique downloads compared to the 4 others, which combined have less than 11,000 unique downloads. At other times, there are more than one NSFW Hot File, especially for Skyrim and Oblivion. So clearly, the majority of the (Skyrim) community wants NSFW files to be easily accessible.

... a problem to a select few people...

A select few people? I can guarantee that more than 5000 people find this a problem, which is a considerable amount of the currently active community.

Do us all a favor and tally up the number of topics on this subject, and then perhaps you'll change your mind.

I can also think of yet another solution to both the advertising and the nudity problem: You must be a supporter to UPLOAD AND VIEW NSFW content. There is absolutely NO problem with that. Most people do not mind shelling out a dollar and a half for this kind of (insert expletive adjective here so I don't get banned) that shows up. I've blocked every NSFW tag I can and these mods STILL show up. Plus, sticking this stuff behind a paywall is a nice way to ensure that the Nexus stays alive. The Nexus makes revenue, and people get their porn mods. With the glorious invention of adblock software most people won't pay just to hide ads anyway.

Oh this is priceless, firstly offence is taken, not given, you've chosen to be offended, you can choose not to be. Secondly are you going to pay for the second site? and how would you keep minors out? you can't use the method used for the supporters imageshare, that would be putting a paywall on mods and Bethesda will not allow that. Thirdly children are the responsibility of the parents, not this website. And lastly morals are a personal thing and you have no right to seek to force yours on to me or anyone else, the tags are there for reason, use them. As for political correctness, that's something created by fascists to control morons, live and let live is a far better code to adopt.

I'd like to hear your personal two cents on the subject without taking the shortcut of quoting site/forum rules like most moderators do.

It's really hard to take this discussion seriously... OP should understand that we're talking about pixels, not living persons, right?... It's a little beyond me how someone can be offended by pixelated 3D models and honestly call it pornography and such. Also we have to note that boundaries of what to allow and what not to allow are VERY blurry. Do you think mods like CBBE or UNP should be banned? I'm not user of such mods myself, but I admire quality of the job done by the author, considering how many other mods have support and compatibility for those it means acceptance and demand.

Also another video game quirk is that those are mostly popular among teenagers (boys mostly). Considering simple psychology and physiology there's no need to be a professor to understand what is the main demand of such segments of population and being surprised by which mods get most downloads in very short time and so many endorsements is strange since it's kinda predictable and obvious.

We have to remember that It's internet after all, you can't ban and forbid everything you may see as offensive, plus some really "dirty" mods are not presented on Nexus as far as I'm concerned, along with tagging I honestly don't know at what extent administration should go. Modding should allow certain freedom, otherwise there's no sense in it.

Yesterday this topic was a lot more civil.. I feel like I've missed something. I mean, what was wrong with the mandatory mod tagging/separating violence/language/nudity filters idea? When did we suddenly go back to the idea of censoring everything a select few disagree with?

*snip*

Also, I get the dislike for some of the creepier/rape mods out there, but jeezus, calm down. That's what the tagging discussion was for - so you can still enjoy the site while not having to see NSFW content that others here may want. If the Nexus removed any and all mods that someone out there disagreed with, we'd all end up playing.. *eck*.. Vanilla games.

It's being talked about in the staff Slack chat that we use, so it hasn't been for nothing at all, Lisn. Right now we have a rather major project in the works (the entire redesign of the site, no less) and we're at relative feature lock-down. As in, we don't want to go changing or adding new functionality if we can help it, because the design mock-ups are locked in now. Changing one thing on the site now has a ripple effect through all the redesign as well. So while there aren't going to be any immediate changes, healthy discussion is appreciated.

That said, so glad to see that a tagging redesign might be happening. ^^
