Timbab
Change the fan settings, or change the graphic settings. Edited November 14, 2011 by Timbab
rando3
I don't know how to solve the problem but atleast i know where it comes from..It's the overheating of the gpu. It goes over 75-80oC and then it shut the pc down. My friend is playing skyrim (with the same graphic card as me, 6950 radeon) and his GPU temp does not go over 66oC.Let's hope the patch will fix this. my 6870 is running at 60C in skyrim on ultra settings and it still crashes. besides 80C is not that hot for a gpu. i had an old card and it was constantly running around 96C ingame. it finally turned itself off at 105C and i had to put on new thermal paste ^^ (is that the correct terminology?) Elochim
huh...i know dude. But it's not the best thing to push the gpu temp down, with a 80-90% increase the fan speed. I wont destroy my graphic card for one game that has problem!
EsburnMadeMeDoIt
Well, overheating does not cause the crash, it is totally unrelated. This is something that needs to be fixed in patch. Dont touch your hardware and your clocks - they are NOT the cause of this crash.

I watched every min mine gpu temp and it raised up to 80oC!Well tbh (in low graphics) for skyrim 80oC it's not correct. I played CoD, AC and watched my temp to theese games too. It raised not more than 67oC with much better graphics! So there might be a problem here too.
DanRocco
Guys, we've done a REALLY THOROUGH job troubleshooting this issue. It is not hardware-related, nor will a display driver update likely fix it if it is not game-specific. It is going to take either a direct game patch or a driver update targeting Skyrim specifically. Let's quit stressing over it, shall we? One ruined weekend was enough for me, heh.

I tried the 11.11 preview drivers for ATI and it doesn't fix the issue, so you're probably correct in assuming new drivers wont fix the issue. monsterminty
80*C is not that high, but if there is a bug in the game which is causing gpu overheat then it will be there in low or ultra-graphics’ settings, the other games you mentioned have got this sorted so they run well at reasonably low temps, also CoD is not as stressful due to relatively small maps. McDerp
Well that sucks. I hope Bethesda can acknowledge the issue and fix it asap. I've been watching this thread and it grew very fast. Hopefully that means we arent a such a small minority having this issue...
